  1. Absoloutly, just before full extension is when you will achieve full power.
  2. To answer the title, Absoloutly!! Right is whatever works. Wrong is whatever doesn't. As for first hit.... see here....
  3. Not all bad news. At least it was fairly minor, and most of all, you've learned some very valuable lessons from it.
  4. Well, it sounds a little worse than it actually was, it was only partly my fault. I was in a competition, doing Kumite. The guy I was sparring started to blitz towards me. I started stepping back at a rather rapid pace. As I did this, he swept my front leg. With the momentum of my already moving leg and the redirection from the sweep, my heel came hurtling at a rapid pace towards my Jatz Crackers..... and connected. Needless to say, I dropped to the deck like a sack of spuds, as did the people around me.... laughing.
  5. As Bushido_Man mentioned, it depends more on the school than the style. This same question gets asked by a newbie probably about twice a week, so the question you are asking is normal. Best bet would to spend some time on this website. Do some searching and read up a little about the different styles. Perhaps look in the new members section and see what suggestions have been given to checking out a new school. Once you have narrrowed it down, time to go for that drive. Good Luck
  6. Yep, I agree. I think the same applies to them too.
  7. That's a fair point. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens in this day and age.
  8. I once tried a one inch punch with a 19mm board, got through it fine.
  9. As Zorbasan said, we used to use a book, but we have now gone to a computer system. When the students come in, we scan their membership card. I can then automatically, who's training when, see what classes are popular etc and it can also assist with lesson planning.
  10. This is essential when running a club. Besides being able to track trends in student attendance (or lack there of), it's essential incase you get taken to court for a liability claim!!
  11. Google is your friend
  12. That's interesting, in our system Tekki is a quick power kata, and Bassai-Dai is a speed kata. Are you sure??? The common enterpretation for Bassai Dai is "Storming a Fortress". I've never seen this done as a speed Kata and Tekki as a power kata.
  13. I used to do them. Do you have a more specific question??
  14. hahaha, that's funny, we actually did this in class last night. For me personally, I could get about an extra foot higher with rotating the foot. Then remember, as you kick lower, the less you need to stretch, the more power you have available (muslces don't stretch and contract at the same time)
  15. hahaha, yeah, now that you mention it, it does!!!
  16. Yeah, fat and stocky are two different things.
  17. There's already one somewhere on quotes.

    Belts

Ours are either 35 or 70 per month, depending how often they wish to train
  19. Hi There Heather, Welcome back to Karate and welcome to KF.
  20. Ummm, not really. Because if you don't believe in the bible, then there's a possibility you don't believe in Hell either, and therefore is nothing to be concerned about. Some people believe that there is no heaven or hell and that when you die, that's it. In the ground, end of story. Then there's another group of people that have an entirely different belief all together. As per your post, I also will not speculate as to which one is right or wrong so as not to start a heated religous debate.
  21. I think that has little to do with Martial Arts though, unfortunately, it's just seen through Martial Arts. Rather amusing really.
