  2. I think they are both good Martial Arts. Hapkido works with Locks and Throws whereas TKD works with Blocks and Strikes. Depends on what you are looking for.
  3. Abosoutly. Many can handle winning, but only true winners can handle loosing.

    Bowing in...

Definately... ask your Sensei. We do a kneeled bow to the instructor and to the students to say thank you. We then do the same at the end of the class.
  5. From what I understand Seagal went from Shodan to Godan rather quickly and took over his father in law's dojo. I don't think his father in law was the one that graded him, though. This might be the case but is peculiar to me if so. Seagal's first wife, Miyako Fujitani, has been quoted saying something along the lines as: "The person that graded Seagal was drunk and asleep during his test". I have no idea if what she says is true or not because I'm sure she has ill feelings towards Seagal. I don't think Seagal was ever a sandan is what I'm saying. Grading is a tricky thing. In Some associations you can grade one rank below yourself and in others I even know of you having to be at least a yondan/4th dan to grade someone to shodan. Anything higher than shodan in some associations has to be done in front of a board of other high ranking instructors. So true. It comes down to the age old question of what does a grade entail. The short answer is the grade is in the mind, not on the hip.
  6. HAHAHA, No. You can't grade anyone till you are 1st Dan.

    Kata

That's IF there was a reason to. By just creating new Katas with new Kata with no reason, I think you are undermining those who created them, because I am yet to find a part of Combat that is not in a Kata. So either you have found a new part of combat that needs a new Kata to demonstrate it (although Kata is not used for this any more) or, you have not learned all the Kata properly.

    How Long

I gather you are talking about at home?? I always intend to train at home, but often don't do it. If I do do it, it's nearly always Kata.
  9. Very nice kata, I like that one. Different schools will do the katas slightly differently.
  10. Regardless of the art, I really think people should base their training on at least twice a week, or 3-4 hours a week. I think this is the best point at which to start. Having said that. One a week is better than none.
  11. Remember, that which does not kills us only makes us stronger. Rather than being upset, chanel that into motivation to overcome.
  12. Always the way it will be. Ah well, just compare yourself to those your own age, you'll be miles ahead!
  13. So US Kamikaze is no good??
  14. I won't comment on diet because I think there are too many variables. As for your lifting frequency, remember the reason for lifting, muscle building. Muscle building happens in the recovery period, not the lifting, the lifting breaks the muscle down. As such, I would recommend you have days where you don't lift at all or that you alternate muscle groups.
  15. Bushido basically summed it up. It all depends on what you want. 10-12 Reps is generally what you want for toning etc. The weight is dictated by your repetitions. eg. if you can't do 8, weight is too much. If you can do 15, you need to increase the weight. Start off small and work your way up. Make sure you get a good program that goes through all the muscle groups and how to do the excersizes SAFELY.
  16. I hate to admit it, but mine is chocolate.... I'm shocking when it comes to resisting chocolate.
  17. Dance music I suppose would be the best as far as helping to get the blood pumping. Fast, powerful, rythmic.
  18. Breaking is not required, but does have it's purpose and can be a bit of fun. As you said though, bricks don't hit back.
  19. Ah it's not that bad. It's a bit of fun. There are about 10 different songs on there, but I couldn't be bothered setting up a different one for each person, so I just set the default for everyone.
  20. I did a lot of research on these. If you do a search on this forum, you will find my thread "Dojo Administration Software" (or something like that). As far as value for money, I went with Martial Arts Organizer. I think I made the right choice! Check it out... www. martialartsorganizer.com
  21. Not at all, although I feel many will disagree with me. To me, being a McDojo is in the way you teach and your priorities being more on money than good standard. There seems to be this attitude that good marketing makes you a McDojo. As far as I'm concerned, as long as you are being honest and ethical, any marketing that brings people in is good marketing.
  22. I don't know if anyone remembers them, but I used to LOVE "Ninja Cats"
  23. Sounds cool! Pitty we never saw it here!!
  24. As funny as that is, I've actually seen this work on humans.... with a slight difference. I was working as a bouncer in a strip club. There was a fight. Before we got to them, the strippers walked over and did a bit of an interesting show for them. After looking like a kid in a candy store, the guys soon forgot what they were arguing about and continued to quietly drink and watch the show....
  25. The only difference is distance. If you are opposing sides, your lead hands are closer and your cross hands are further apart than if you are in the same stance. Not that it really makes a lot of advantage or disadvantage as such, because you are both in the same situation. I try to use both.
