Thanks. I'm not sure I understand part of your post. I understand what you're saying about if I think the bible is right, I should be concerned. But I'm don't understand the bit if I don't think it's right.

loyalty to my Instructor/husband
Jiffy replied to Akaratechick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, I'm pleased to say, I studied with a Master this weekend!!! Hanshi Tino Ceberano - 9th Dan. Okay, so he doesn't do Shotokan, he does Goju, but it's very similar and what I learned was just amazing! (for info, do google search on "Tino Ceberano". There's heaps) See pic. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j158/jiffbox/shawn_tino.jpg -
I would say to avoid it. For people who have a fairly extensive background in MA, learning from a DVD is a good thing. It reduces the learning time, doesn't impede on convenience and in most cases, the principles are transferable from style to style, so it's just the techniques that vary. For someone without this experience though, I believe it will create more problems than it will solve. Remember, practice does not make perfect! Practice makes permanent. If you practise wrong, you will remain wrong. If you practice good, you will remain good. Wait till you are in a position to start a class, then do it.

question about stone bruises
Jiffy replied to Akaratechick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Why kidding, I would have..... hahahaha -
Yeah the techniques work, there's no debate over that. The problem is, in the heat of the moment, you don't get the time, opportuntiy or opening to execute them. Not as far as my experience is concerned. Also, in the heat of the moment, your ability to perform complicated acrobatic acts is greatly reduced.

Sorry about the Jatz Crackers!!! Yeah, that hurts! -
I just had a training session with Tino Ceberano over the weekend. He is 65 years old. You should have seen the man move!!! Increadible!

About the style(s) used in "the karate kid"
Jiffy replied to Azula's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
True, but the storyline seems to be taken more so from GojuRyu... not that it really matters. -
Tino Ceberano!!! 9th Dan and direct student of Gogan Yamaguchi And I got to.... I had a seminar with him the other yesterday and got to have a good chat with him. It was sensational!!!

I think this is very true. There is much politics in Martial Arts. Unfortunately, some of those people we highly respect have this closed minded attitude, which I am strongly against. I think it's up to us as students, instructors and masters of the next generation to promote open mindedness in our teaching and when studying to only study with those that are open minded, thus eliminating business from those poor closed minded souls in the hope to re-educate them.

I think this is a definate concern. Not just for you and the other students (as already mentioned), but also for himself. If he has just taken up a new passtime, is smelling like booze and is lacking in personal hygene, that cries out "Mental Breakdown" to me. Maybe he's going through a hard time with something? Either way, for both your sake and his, I hope the situation is resolved.

Actually, I would love to find out what was in that magical formula that Mr. Miyagi used in KK1. That got rid of a massive bruise overnight.... -
question about stone bruises
Jiffy replied to Akaratechick's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Pretty much.... there's not a whole lot you can do about them, just keep off them a bit. The shoes are great, but as you said, they grip which makes it hard to pivot. -
The other day, I went to class. I hadn't shaved and my hair was a little scraggy. One of my 10 year old students came up to me and in her most honest voice said "You look really old!" HAHAHAHA, Kids are great!! Have you had something like this?

How long are the classes you teach?
Jiffy replied to bushido_man96's topic in Instructors and School Owners
We used to have those high grade classes in my old school, but we don't have the numbers to do them. I would love to do them again. -
Oh cool, will have to check those ones out!

I checked.... a lot of these sites listed don't work any more...

Defending Against Being Attacked By a Piece of Fresh Fruit
Jiffy replied to Sohan's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
One I really love is a Torch used as a Kubotan or keys used as knuckle dusters. A heavy handbag can also act as a great weapon when swung hard enough too!
