  1. I think Wing Chun can be used more effectively then Karate without as much training as KArate. Its greatest downfall , at least with the ones I've sparred with is a poor defense against grappling, however, the person would have to get pretty close and its not something easy to do against Wing Chun. Also, Wing Chun techniques tend to hurt the opponent in a much harsher way than Karate, vital and soft points in the body, closing in on the opponent and not leaving space to counterattack. KArate practitioners tend to go at a slower pace.
  2. It's official, you probably arent even taking martial arts or you wouldnt be discussing this... Sorry I wasnt able to instruct you further... Most people in the whole KarateForums agree with me- muscle strength has nothing to do with Ki/chi - and if you had a sensei/sifu, he would also agree with me. Have a good day, I'm not replying here anymore
  3. ask your instructor for guidance- if your partner is that small, he'll tell u what to do
  4. it didnt work because the links wouldnt work.... only the main page.... Choy Lee Fut? I dont really know about him all I know is his school, and it seems like a cool school to learn martial arts;very complete and seems strong
  5. it shows which people would rather get beat up rather than accept that they cant win..... I say, if its not important, walk away....
  6. I received a high kick to the face while sparring with a black belt when I was still orange belt. Thats how he ended the fight so, I say they are pretty effective, but you gotta know how to use it
  7. thats paul chus' page and its not working as of now.... I checked shaolinusa.cm and it seems like a nice place train in. Give it a try, go visit the dojo, if you like it, trian for a while and decide if you're going to stay there. good luck!
  8. I disagree , loosing a fight is better than loosing self respect Why fight if you can avoid it? I'm not talking about a challenge at the dojo , I'm talking about a streetfight in which you could end up in the hospital or dead- if I cant avoid it ,say, to defend someone I care about, I will defend myself as best I can. You have to learn how to chose fights and knowing where your limits are. If you cant, you'll just prove you are able to take hits because of your ego depends on the situation
  9. not even visualization- once you train for ki you can feel it in your body- noone can deny that
  10. If I truly believe I cant win a fight, and its not a fight worth picking... I'm not going to fight as if tryign to prove something. I am never goign to let myself be pushed around by anyone- if I have to defend myself, theyre goig to get a real fight. however, you have to learn how to pick your fights. Again, its 10 year olds we're talking about here.... not 18 year old bullies kicking the crap out of a 13 year old.
  11. seems like a good school- have u checked it out in person? seems like a pretty complete system to learn...... at least from what I read on internet
  12. Even if it was just "correct breathing and proper body mechanics"-once again, incomplete information. The correct breathing helps the body work as it should ( in Chi kung theory- Chi flow is restored) but this breathign also sparks "bioelectricity" as you so elegantly put it. What you are saying is that not everyone agrees with me, but it does happen, even if the person is not aware of it.
  13. Chi is real, you just cant asume you're gonna go dragonballz on someone because yo9u maditate for a month - most Chi masters(which dont really use it for any other thing other than curing) have trained for 3 years at the very least..... Its misinformation- not complete fiction....
  14. Chi, Ki or however you want to put it is always flowing, it is like liquid or gas. When I said you have to read or keep studying I meant just this. Everyone has the same amount of Chi/ki, they just dont know how to harness it or make it come into play. I wouldnt want to say you are wrong, but I dont want to leave you with the wrong information- I think you might be referring to aura..... ask your sifu- he'll explain it to you, I'm sure
  15. There are other better ways to build a child's character
  16. wont the bike further the damage if its a serious injury?
  17. Very nice , keep practicing and good luck to you
  18. this is not a case of being bullied around. its a case of fighting over name-calling.......... you cant encourage a little kid to go into a fight just because he was insulted verbally.... or do you go and fight everyone who calls u names?
  19. depends on what yo want- Wing Chun will train you for fighting, it is a very powerful system. Shaolin might give you kung fu mixed with Chi kung - so its hard to decide. with WC you get strong for fights and develop that. With Shaolin you get the chance to develop your chi as well as learn how to fight. tough choices....
  20. What style of Tai Chi do you practice Dtstiachi? Hey, if thats your sifu's words, follow them.I practice by myself from books and what I am able to ask. Interesting to find someone who knows about this ...
  21. the 2 books i mentioned are the best to do at your own time.... the rest is being patient....
  22. you cant increase Chi if you make it stop flowing... you only get tense and feel the burn. It has nothing to do with Chi. you excercise to allow a better flow of Chi into your body; not to create it from inside of you.... better start reading or paying attention in class....
  23. I dont think all Chi Kung masters know too much about Zhan Zhuang, though they should know about the 3 circle posture..... its a bit too advanced for you right now though why dont you give normal Chi Kung (Chi Qong) some time? see what it has to offer, it should be more than enough...
  24. you tried to reach too much too fast. As a beginner you wont get very far.... just mastering the first 3 postures takes more than 3 months... Start by doing the "holding the ball" (or holding the tree) position for 2 mins trying to remain totally relaxed.... then after a week, try to go for 5 min....... and so on....until you get to 20 min. Its not easy, but If you want to learn , take ur time... you shouldnt try this from internet because it doesnt give you a way to relax your body. Try looking for the book i recommended u.
