  1. it would basically be the same material for both someone who studies in china and someone who studies outside of china- if the title of sifu or master is awarded, he knows how to teach the material.
  2. I'm not a fan of Aikido as practiced for self defense. Looks beautiful, works wonderfully, but I cant see how people will always come at you with their hands over their heads and if someone grabs your collar or wrist, they will also throw a punch most likely, not wait for you to do something. I've never questioned Steven Seagal was a good martial artist. 7th dan in Aikido and black belt in Kendo. The man knows his martial arts.

  4. I suppose that it could be argued that way, though I do not believe that it is true. Though I realy don't know anything about reiki I don't think that it can be used to heal those who are leppers or blind, and not those who are dead either.All of which Jesus were some of the miricles that Jesus did. I'm not saying it is definitely what Jesus used, however, Reiki has been used to treat incurable deseases in Asia, with better effect than western medicine. Besides, if Jesus really used Reiki, he probably had a much more potent one than the one we know.
  5. Sorry, I dont think people fight better when angry... use more strength? yes. In the case of your teacher I would recommend not doing that again; with his knowledge he could seriously hurt a friend or student. I've seen anger used by me(which didnt work for much) and against me( to my advantage). It is not something new for me. The last angry person that tried to fight me, found my foot on his chest and my punches landing. When angry, you dont think straight,your mind cant take too much pressure like that. know ur body, and know your strength to the fullest, be good to ur body; in relaxation you find true strength.
  6. rage... while in rage a couple of things happen- your eyesight and visual retention diminish(your visual field gets reduced). you get an adrenaline ruch among others. It is normal to feel stronger and even invincible when in a rage. Everyone gets that. However, in a rage you lose your ability to concentrate, you lose oxygen quickly, sight... its not something comfortable for martial arts- maybe thats a way to achieving strength quickly for other purposes;escaping a situation where u need to use strength quickly or something like that. However, in true meditation, correct body mechanics, and the search for true ki that can be achieved if you try hard enough as you should try. Give other techniques more time, find an instructor to help you.

Tai chi has a different kind of breathing(Slow deep breaths) that massage your internal organs making them work as they should.And makes emphasis on relaxation- you train without putting too much stress on your body, so ur strength lasts longer. The movements are natural and work to strengthen the whole body instead of just some parts( ex. biceps,etc..) Tai Chi and Chi Kung (Qi Qong) have been known for treatment of ailments without cure.
  8. I've practiced what I've learned from books, incorporating it in my fighting style.mostly footwork and hand-strikes. look for Robert W. Smith books on Bagua(or PAkua)

  10. my sifu lets us train in other styles AFTER reaching black belt.that way we are true to what we've been taught and we can decide what style and movements go with the ones we already have, since, by black belt, u learn what moves work and which ones are harder to apply.
  11. jujitsu is not the same as bjj. jujitsu tries to stay in stand up position to be able to fight better in self defense with just a little groundfighting. bjj focuses a bit more on what you can do on the ground, but in self defense they will all tell you to keep away from the ground.
  12. thats a lot to learn by week: karate material and judo material, specially if you havent got a solid karate base. maybe train a bit more in karate before cross training? you'll do whatever you want, just try not to become a bad karate-ka and a bad judoka for trying 2 styles at the same time,ok? train hard( in one or 2 styles) and good luck!

  15. It's no substitute at all, it's a superior replacement. Let's face it, if traditional martial arts were so great to begin with, these MT/BJJ guys wouldn't be absolutely dominating the UFC and PRIDE and Vale Tudo and everything else. Even the guys who started in karate or something, looking at how they fight now, it all resembles boxing standing up, and so on. No it doesn't incorperate everything that can happen in a fight thanks to the rules, but sport martial arts evolve (evolution inherently moves towards the better) because the techniques themselves basically compete for survival. That means they're always improving themselves- which is why, for instance, boxers, are so incredibly good with their hands. that all depends on what you train for. if i train for the ART I will take a traditional martial art- if its taught right and I train well, it can be devastating. if i train to fight, I'll cross-train- it will cut corners of the training and not get caught up in the philosophies of a martial art. Personally, I'd rather go with the art. it will take me longer, but I make sure my training doesnt create a weak martial artist. and right now, I dont need to fight, if it ever came to that, I wont stand and fight, I'll defend myself and get out of there- but i dont train for sport.
  16. how could gracie knowing that hughes is Big, he is in great shape- wouldnt it have been better to put some more muscle? make it better for his ability to take hits and not be pinned down?

I'll say that Aikido is an internal martial art from Japan.(though I dont know what the internal part of it is) Supposedly jujitsu is an internal art also.(talking about energy manipulation) I have no concrete knowledge of the internal arts of the Ninja, though they are supposed to have special meditations also. Ki and Chi refer to the same thing - the universal form of energy that flows through everything and gives us life.
  18. 2 things: #1.reiki is not your own internal energy, so , train all you want, it wont be stronger. #2. other than its healing side, and the better flow of energy through ur body, it doesnt really help much as complimentary for martial arts. now, mix any martial art with qiqong, and then some reiki and you have a developed qiqong prowess
  19. ur not supposed to have trouble with ur flexibility, buy a book or a dvd to get the correct way to do a split.
  20. imagine how good you'd be without the smoke messing up with your lungs...
  21. dont take it personally, people from kenpo and other more harder styles see sport tae kwon do as a very superficial art. It shouldnt matter to you what people think or say, just be proud you are doing your stuff. I'm personally not a fan of jeet kun do- dont find it to be as special as they make it out to be, but I dont go talking about them or tae kwon do's.
  22. i like hapkido better. trapping and grappling besides the kicks.
  23. do you know any energy cultivation methods form Japan? I only know from China.
