if you dont have any means of countering or defending grappling(throws,shooting,takedowns and groundfight), you might have some trouble with a judoka. However, most judo people I've fought lack striking experience, both dealing the blows and countering; but once you're in their grip, watch out... Personally, I think Karate in general can be pretty effective if trained in the right way, sadly, most schools I've seen (and I do NOT mean ALL-I've seen some who are really tough) train for some movements and not for realistic self defense. If it is just for sport, I dont like it other than for it providing good excercise- the moves will be sloppy, they will train for speed and not power and most will try to become a mix of boxers(bad boxers too) and tkd sport kickers.

if you are taller, you dont need as much skill(if you are also heavier).there are moves that will work with brute strength and be higly efficient. I guess it will depend on how well the 2 of them move...

a roundhouse used in the "muay thai" style. It has a slight variation to tkd in how the weight is distributed when kicking giving it more power but sacrificing some balance. -
My least favorite thing about AK is our tendency to be slappy. Our dojo tends to overcompensate and hit way harder, but that's good, in my opinion. dont underestimate slapping- slapping can help you keep your opponent distracted, of course, it only helps getting people angry if you dont hit hard too. in kajukenbo rarely do we slap, unless we want to catch people off guard and move our hands around really quick. As for the rest of the hits, they are mostly hard hits- quick defense and oportunity to leave

you might want to keep your hands up and not get kicked on the head with time you will learn to keep moving and get mroe stamina, until then, just keep practicing and working out to develop faster legs(to move you around and kick) -

by the way, they are taller than you, if you chase them, you will get hit. make them come to you and just when you get into their range,get inside(45degree angles) ready to strike, counter or whatever you feel like doing. But never chase anyone taller than you, make them come to you. -

ok, here's an error I find on footwork terms: when I say sidestep I mean just move out of the way-hopefully you will just need to move to the side, not forward or backwards. this can be a little tricky because if you dont have good timing, the opponent either hits you or changes to face you without giving you an oportunity to fight back. if you are moving in a fight, be it defending or attacking remember: move to the sides or in 45 degree angles, not forward or backwards. This ensures you are not "just attacking" or "just backing out" but countering- gaining ground to counter whatever comes at you. -
some people cant train with us because they either cant handle being hit the way we are hit, others cant take the physical training - those 2 for the most part. Others just dont have the discipline... It sounds like my kind of training. yeah, i wouldnt have it any other way. By being hit I know where a technique will be effective and when it wont be. the physical training part; I wish I had more time to dedicate to it, for now college takes most of my time but I still train my hardest.

drills- after a lot of cardio when your legs hurt and you cant move very well start doing drills of sidestepping, use a friend to come at you slowly so you can learn when you should side-step.when you get better at this, start slowly making the drill go by faster. ( by doing the drill after you are tired, you wont have trouble making your body move around when tired) Another drill you can do is choose not to attack your sparring partner.and have him attack you slowly so you can see where you would be most comfortable to move away and not get hit.(instead of always jumping back, experiment sidesteps, moving forward to stop him from kicking you, etc) -

i think we both have different names for kicks. hook kick I get but what about the difference between your "twist kick" and your "turn kick" ? i think you might be referring to a "wheel kick" on one of them so if you could explain it, it would help -

lose a bit of weight and concentrate on your footwork and timing. you need to be able to move fast against someone taller than you. also, the only way to fight them is to get close, if you are nto close enough, he can still hit you, and just blocking wont get you anywhere -
for the average person out there, u dont need a fancy technique that will help you win the fight, just dont rely on one movement: if u kick the groin, knee or elbow the face/ if you scratch,punch also/ etc... just keep going until the agression is over and then get away as fast as u can now if you have the bad luck of meeting another martial artist that wants to fight you on the street, more strength, cunning and precision will be required. but dont rely on just one technique, and if you do, see if u can adapt it to more than one scenario.

We al know the best kicks come from korean martial arts. We have tae kwon do, hapkido, tang soo do, among others. When in training: what is your favorite kicking combination to make sure kicks are flowing smoothly? I am currently stretching and trying to develop my tang soo do kicks and I'm wondering if anyone here has different kicking drills that might help me develop kicking combos that help me improve my kicks in an actual fight without having to resort only to the front kick and the wheel kick. Anyone here can help me with this?
