I think the UFC has had a great impact on martial arts training. I seen alot of traditional schools employ bjj or some form of grappling to compensate for the lack of knowledge in those area's. as well as you see the simple moves in mauy thai, boxing, and other arts, were it skills are tested with other partners, moving out of the way blocking and countering each other. traditional styles may emply the same moves but not in the same way because the timing and distance is off. Like the step forward punch that is commonly used by a partner in trainiing were they step with say a right foot and punch with the right hand. as appostd to step with a jap an acrooss. I seen body machaics off were they don't get used ot the full abalities of there body. because they are focused on the look of there style. stances need to look like this and what not. instead of developing the concepts and getting there body to do it. don't matter the stance it matters your ability to keep on balance and generate power in your techniques that is effective and to make it such it has to be combined with good distance and timing awareness. a good point to illustrate if any one is interestead just shoot me an e-mial and I will send you a clip of a traditional "deep stance" karate-ka. figthint a bjj student. You see the tradition of the focus on goign to the tradional stance of the punch hand out and the other back at the waist. that training method is fine to get across certain points or concepts to a begging student but then it should and need to be changed later on were you have a better guard protecting your self and a better stance that can do both keep you in balance and mobility. like the idea of staying on the balls of the feet staying moveable but when you hit your settle into your base driving power by pushing off the ball of the back foot throwing a rear punch. just some examples. but people are to locked on tradition (the look) of the style to really improve in there performace. menjo very true, but more I wouldn't even want to do it. stick my finger in his mouth and he bits down. I know the fish hook is on the inside of the cheek in the mouth but if the guy see's it coming and your not fast enough he moves his head forward and *crunch* bites down and that would be painful expserience.

If I was doing that combo I would do it like they taught in tthe chool but at home or with a traing partner working outside of the dojo. I would change it. Probably I may palm the elbow as I pull the other hand to me angeing or roating my body to get weight to the palm. as contact is made with the palm I keep pressure on the elobow rotating it so the palm is of the hand is facing down and I roated the attackers arm by rotating with applied pressure of the heand againt the elbow same time keeping the wrist I am grabing close to my body turning it up same time i put pressure on the elobw joint with the other hand. I think apply pressure with the push/pull concept you see in karate or shaolin kenpo. one hand goes out other comes back mentality. were I am pulling on the wrist back and up as I roated the wrist. same time I roate the elbow or arm with the help of the palm strike that is now facking down. I put pressure going down sightly forwards or back depending on how I want to lower the posture of the opponent. then palm the face and kick to the ribs because they are lower and y ou don't have to kick high be same high almost as kicking the knee or upper thigh. I hope that all made since. Or I would change it by doing the same parry and trap move. as I am pulling on the wrist. turning or touring the hand and pulling same time helps with the move I pull it close to my body and with the other arm instead of using the palm to breas the elbow I use the for arm as it conects the motion doest stop I keep going till I palm the face and then side kick the knee. either way I don't like the technique I don't blame you for not liking it either.

yeah I don't like that technique either I would end up changing things quickly in it. so the palm to the elbow is that the same hand that palms the face?

I like the spear hand but I form my mine by pending my the whole fingers still keeping them stright just not aligned with the hand. I get it to where my middle and ring figer at the tips are same size or appear to be. that way they both hit at the same time. I also spread the fingers slightly and slightly tense them at the back of the hand. whenI make contact I don't go staight with them but at have an arch in my wrist so they go fingers hit at the ball of the finger tips on my middle and ring finger and then i go in. if you go go straight in your more likely to jam or break the fingers. same as withthe toe kick using the big toe as the striking point you go straight in with it more likely to break your toe.

Karate Vs Wing chun
Adonis replied to steve57's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
wing chun does alot with rooting, center line theory, sentivity training (chi sao) sticky hands. simular to tai chi practioners doing sentitivty training by contecting the hands to the other person feeling were the weight in the hand and how they are pushing or pulling with the body. they do alto of trapping and intercepting techniques. Ie (you punch and I inntercept by punching and throwing your punch off, going for your face.) captainmanacles, it all depends on the training methods or how he was trained at the other schools. ie sparring, speed and power drills and how well he was able to grasp the concepts of distance and timing to make his stuff effective. as well as he may have said 15 years but is that 15 years of diligent practice or 15 years since he started in kung fu but had alot of breaks in between his trainining time. which also plays a factor. -

if you want you can try looking around for wrestling clubs also which price probably will be cheap or have wrestler friends in class or if you done it. will help with take down defense. such as learning to sprawl or learning to fight in the clinch which you had some training in when you did mauy thai right? wrestling helps you keep your base in your feet when they try to clinch and take you down were you can adjust and pumel in for better hand postions. Or set up for dirty boxing team quest is good at the dirty boxing moves. thats a mma team. On pridefc (pride figthing champion ships is a japense based promotion like the ufc but I Think with a bigger following then UFC) a guy named dan henderson faught renzo gracie. in the fight renzo got him to the ground as far as pulling guard dan hit him a few times in the guard then quickly stood up and backed out so he wouldn't play renzo's game. renzo tried to shoot in on him or tackle dan and dan sprawled his weiht on top of him. he did it a couple times and then back off and threw punches at renzo. renzo tried to clinch up on dan again and dan sprawled on top of him throwing an upper cut at the same time. which already knocked him out. but shows his fight stratgey as how to deal with a better grappler. -
which hand is the attacker punching you first and what hand do you parry. Is the attacker punching with his right hand are you doing an inward parry with the left hand. I have hard time seeing the technique you described in my mind can you go into more detail about it.

depends on the place. some instructors go over board with training. some places I see uses slaps instead of full out hititng them unless some of the guys have an mma fight coming up. but usually it starts off with slaps and this is later in training after the bjj practioner develops his positions and his ablity to escape and maintain diffrent dominat body postions. slaps were designed so the get used to something coming at there face and protect them selves while still controling the oppoent to escape. later on as the develop in there training some punches are thrown as well, but if your pounding aperson whats the point? training is for learning not to get pointlessly beat up. training should fortify the body and mind not tear it down. I seen other schools and styles of martial arts were its just a beat down clinic. I don't see the point in that for learning unless its later on in training and you developed your self to get out of the way of the punches and train full contact to see where your at in your training. see how solid your defense is and then you know what you need to work on. even full contact training should be in some control.

whats the worse combo you guys didn't like. I forgot the names of alot alot of them been awhile been a few years since I did shaolin Kempo. I mostly been studying bjj lately. we had one were attacker throws a right punch. you you guide it in wth r forearm grab with same hand. then do a jump front ball kick and back kick same time with the other leg. for when two people come at you. I never liked that one. I think it was number 13 or 14 combination. could be 16. its been awhile since I did the combo's.

Leg attacks
Adonis replied to KUNTA KINTE's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
I don't use foot locks to well I am not good at setting them up and finishing them. I pulled them off in training a couple of times but mostly I worked to pass the guard. Lately my higher percetage moves have been triangle choke or straight arm bar from guard or mount. some times I pull off key locks and kimura's I never been to good with gi chokes. any way as said before I don't like to give up a chance to pass guard to go for a leg lock that isn't high percetage move in my arsenal and get stuck in a worse postion. Just my 0.2 cents. If I knew how to set them up more I would go for them. -

ways to beat someone bigger
Adonis replied to Maddwraph's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
also if you want go to bjj.org or there are other sites as well like onthemat.com where they have vidoe's of diffrent postions or competions. You can see probably same postions you been put in and how the people in the competion or technique vid's get out of them. what techniques they use as controling the opponents hips or head or how they apply there weight on them to control the postions. also you can try https://www.mma.tv go the atama jiu-jitsu forum on there and post a questions there some good practioners who give good tips. form member jonpall or andreh are really good on giving advice. hope this helps. -
ways to beat someone bigger
Adonis replied to Maddwraph's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
If they are mounted on your chest on your face smothering you. try the elbow escape from teh guard then the hip bump one. or try both but if it isn't working relax and wait till the oppenent goes for something. basically moving his right some times when going for stuff people move there weight to the left or right giving you a chance to trap of there base and do the hip bump. Or switch for elbow escape or go out the back door. try to relax and feel were the person is weight is at. More you learn about postions and how to secure them and move your body the better you will do. so what postion does the bigger guys have on you? -
