  1. It's ok Icetuete. I got the other post. No harm done
  2. My school goes like this: white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, brown, red, probational BB, then BB.
  3. My school has TKD 4 times a week. Kali on Fridays. I go three times a week, somethimes 4 for an hour each.
  4. I started for self defense, and that still is my main reason. But I also do it to keep my weight down, and for fun
  5. I agree. I will move this to the intro forum, so you can get more advice As far as gi's, mine are Proforce. They don't shrink and they "take a beating" no matter what weight they are. I have had one for three years and it's still holding strong, even after so many washings. Check them out
  6. I agree with Ninjanurse. Eventhough I haven't reach my BB yet, I have learned so much and rapidly, as she said. I have done some teaching, in all three schools I have attended, so I totally agree
  7. When I first started drinking (long before MA), no. I still drink, but I think MA changed me. I'm more calm in most situations. When I was attacked, I was drunk. But I was calm, and "level-headed" despite the alcohol. I used just enough force to get away. I didn't pumble the guy, eventhough I felt like it LOL.
  8. I have to agree with Sub. My school is WTF affiliated. But we do Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan ( similar to TSD). We are NOT a sport school. BUT we do have a class that offers "sport sparring" for those who are interested in that stuff. But my school is mostly self defense.
  9. I have to reply to the one that said that "gear limits full contact." Sorry, I forget who it was. I was fighting an awsome fighter today. I had all the gear on. The chest protector and all. When he did a roundhouse kick to my chest, that chest protector didn't do nuttin. This guy can kick so hard that I felt it and it hurt like a ...... you know what! He was a 4th gup I might add, not a BB. He had fantastic technique and kicked like a horse!
  10. My new school, sparring starts at purple belt (5th gup). Except for me LOL. I was told I can spar when I started hehehehe. Tonight I sparred a 4th gup, and got my arse kicked, though. Sheesh he was fast and hit like a horse! Grappling type sparring starts at white belt.
  11. Every weekend. I very rarely go anywhere to drink, though. I buy a 12 pack for my honey and I, and we stay home to drink. That way, no one causes trouble with us or we won't get stuck in trouble
  12. I agree. When I was attacked, I just re-acted. I didn't think about anything, except getting away. And I used just enough force to do so.
  13. In my school, what you were refering to is called counter grappling. Which is getting out of and countering what your partner throws at you (locks, throws, headlocks, armbars, ect). It's all standing. We do ground fighting, which we simply called grappling. It depends on the school and what they call stuff. Not every place is the same. But what you said IS grappling. There's standing grappling and ground fighting grappling. I hope that made sense. I'm tired LOL.
  14. Welcome. Enjoy your stay
  15. Try this site: https://www.bilang.com It has a lot of "How-to's" on there
  16. Kyokushin, you mentioned Rochester, NY. I live about 40 minutes south of there (Canandaigua, NY). Do you live in NY? If so I can help find a place for you. And yes, this is Kyokushin, TKD, and Isshin Ryu capital of the world LOL.
  17. I changed schools since my last post, so ....... I still take TKD, but it is so much closer to TSD. We do the same stuff and both sets of TKD and TSD forms. The self defense is second to none.
  18. Sorry Delta. I miss-understood your question. Yes, that is definitely the shine wave thing. I'm not too exerienced to know too much about it, though. I did look it up. It has to do with generating power. And you are supposed to land (foot) and strike at the same exact time. Hopefully an ITF'er can explain it better for you. The way I learn is to keep my head level, like you said. We are taught to also land and strike at the same time, but we use hip power. There are several versions of TKD, and they all do something different. It gets kinda confusing when trying to explain stuff, too LOL.
  19. Hey, what's up
  20. I agree with tommarker. delta1, I have no idea why they bounce. I do Tae Kwon Do Moo Duk Kwan. We don't bounce. Maybe a TKD ITF'er can clear this up for you (i hope anyway). I think it's called the "shine wave" or something like that. I have to research that now, cause I'm curious LOL
  21. I have a dog that is a mut (mix breed). He looks like a Dingo (sp?). I have grown up with all kinds of dogs. I think the "muts" are better. They are usually sweet, love to play, and are loyal. I grew up with a lab mix that was so sweet and loyal. The dog I have now is a sheppard mix (the dingo looking one) and he is all the above. My advice would be is go to a kennel or recue place to find a friend. That's where my family found most of our dogs, and they turned out to be the sweetest animals
  22. Check out this site http://mchenry.homeip.net/TangSooDo/forms/index.htm It has all the TSD forms on it. If you need any advice, let me know It's called Kee-cho Il-Bu on that site, by the way Tang Soo! P.S. I'll move this to Korean arts so you will get more responces
