  1. Hmmm I don't really know. I'm not really in a position to comment on MA guys in general, but I do have my very own MA guy and get on well with everyone at my clubs. I guess we all share a passion for MA so its a conversation starter at least!. Also, the MA guys I know all have a good sense of humour, which is very important to me! I do agree here. I also have my own MA guy. What makes him attractive (besides his good looks) is that we share the same passion for MA. It makes it more insteresting for the fact that we are in two different dojangs. We share/steal stuff from each other Plus he does look good in a gi/dobok
  2. There's an age requirement in TKD. You have to be 16. The kids get a "junior" black belt, and they don't learn as much as what the adults do.
  3. I'll watch the UFC once in a while. Mainly for grappling moves. I hear the early UFC was hard core. But now it's so much like wrestling. Most of it is an act. They wear the silly outfits and enter the arena through these entryways that have flashing lights, ect. The fight itself can be real, but they all put on an act. The big bad tuff guy on TV might be the nicest guy in real life. And some people don't realize that.
  4. Don't block with my arms when it comes to kicks. I usually parry them or try to. I sometimes do passive blocking. It works well in TKD, but I really don't like it to much for the reasons delta pointed out.
  5. Try this site: https://www.bilang.com . It's a "trick kick" site but it does have the tornato kick on it (sometimes called the 360).
  6. I had a major brain fart saturday night. I did a demo (on stage with about 11 others). I did well with most of it (there were dive-rolls, kicking, breaking, and standing grappling). I was so siked when I broke and the board just exploded (with a hand tech no less) hehehehe. But then I had a brain fart on our standing grappling routine ggggrrrrr. My face had to turn beat red. I was so embarressed
  7. Must be the gi/dobok .... or maybe not LOL. I'm the same way with guys.
  8. We have a guy in our school that has been training for 10 years. He's only a 1st dan. I heard he refuses to test, but still trains. Well, I know the real reason, but I won't go into that (but yet, I agree with him). When I test for BB, I prolly will take my time after that. Not that I'm rushing now, but I feel that I want to "learn" more, instead of worrying about the next BB test. There is so much more "in-depth" stuff to learn after BB that I want to learn it right.
  9. I'm at it a little over three years, and I'm just a 3rd gup/kyu. I'll prolly test for black in about another 8 months or so (makes it 4 years). In my dojang, I think the average is 4 years.
  10. I have no choice LOL. My school mixes TKD and Judo type stuff (throws, joint locks, standing grappling, ground grappling, ect), then a seperate class for Kali. They usually mix Kali in TKD classes as well.
  11. Mostly semi contact in my school, but sometimes its hard contact. Grappling is full contact.
  12. No. Just when we do forms or technique drills.
  13. I am now LOL. I have a bad knee. But I wear a knee brace and back off when it starts to hurt too much. I normally take it easy on that leg (as far as kicking goes). I have also trained after I pulled my hamstring. But I modified my training. I did mostly forms and hand technqiues. I didn't spar for a while.
  14. Hehehehe I do this, too. It is hard for me to tie a belt on someone else, so I just show them
  15. I think I was in three fights. Two was in Junior High. I defended my sister in one of them. The last one, I was attacked (after starting MA).
  16. In Tang Soo Do, we knew it as a inverted roundhouse, also. My TKD school uses it (donno what they call it), but not often. I use it while sparring, still. It took me a while to get it down, but I like it
  17. Zip. We don't pay anything till first dan. I don't remember how much, though. I think it's $75.
  18. I was in TSD, then moved. I took up TKD. But the TKD I take is almost like TSD, because we do the same forms (except for color belts). Sparring is a bit different, but both styles are pretty close. If you let me know what city you are in, I can do a search for you. I know a lot of TSD people, also.
  19. Same here. We don't pay anything for tests until BB.
  20. I don't remember my resolutions from last year LOL. But this year, I have a few. One is to actually get my black belt this time (hopefully I won't have to move again for a loooooong time). Of course I want to work on technique, ect before then, also. I want to work on my cardio (running, or biking, ect). And strengthening, also. I want to be more agressive as an instructor. Not mean, but not let the kids "walk all over me" anymore.
  21. My dojang was closed for two weeks, except for two days (monday and tuesday). I trained on those two days, plus I trained at home. I don't go back till Monday (the 5th). Man, I hate not having class. It drives me nuts!
  22. I can get my sidekicks pretty high now (head height). What I did was hold my sidekick up and leave it there. Kind of like a balancing drill. It builds the muscles that are used for sidekicks.
