Pacificshore replied to shotochem's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Like everyone else that has posted before me, I'll be 40 come June , and I too started out training in my teens. As time moved on, I too found that my speed, flexibility had diminished, as well as my recovery time from injury and such. I do enjoy aspects of my training now more than I did in the past, for example...katas. As I work my katas, I don't just work on the external development, but the internal as well. As a youth it was just about getting the sequence down and that was all. I also enjoy kicking, and as a youth would do all the jump/spin kicks I could learn. Now that I can't do them like I used to, I look to adapt them so that they would be "more" practical than not. So when it comes to having to work a technique that requires such a "flashy" kick, I make sure I understand the limits that such a technique presents, and my present abilities. Some may ask, why do such a technique, and my answer is "why not?" If it works on developing my balance/coordination, refining my technique at my age, then I'm all for it. It also allows me to see the flaws in attempting such "flashy" moves, but hey..gotta admit they sometimes catch folks off-guard So in the end, I just keep plugging away until Father Time says no more -

Home study black belt course- works for me
Pacificshore replied to shotokanwarrior's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
So long as you have live partners to work with, then the home study course is more like a supplement to your training. -
I had my dentist make one for me. Best guard I've owned to date. Maybe you should look into that once your braces come off

Which Shotokan dojo are you out of?? Are you all associated with Nishiyama Sensei? Good luck by the way!

Can't say that I have actually seen a Hindi movie. Must broaden my horizons

She knew about my training before hand, and knows how important it is to me and supports me in it

Welcome aboard

Any forum members use these particular brand gi? If so, can you provide a review. Thanks

Rather than demote yourself, stay at your present rank. Even by your own words, your Sensei is happy with you and your rank as it stands. It would be to your advantage to stay on course with your present rank and every rank after that. Remember, your Sensei will know before you when you are ready to advance further

Well it is certainly not the ones that are on there selling for over $100.00. The one in question was selling off his "Tokaido" brand new for a mere $50.00 with the "But it Now" option. So if you see this in Ebay again...buyer beware. I've been searching Ebay for the same seller, and haven't seen any listings of the sort. Hopefully this seller isn't one of those kinds that re-list under a different name too.

I've seen those listings....sorry to hear about that...that blows big time

At one point in my former Kenpo system, I knew 32 katas by the time I reached my BB. Those included weapon katas as well. Unfortunately, I have a recording of many of these katas because I seriously forgot many of them as time went on. Many times I find myself mixing them up.....kinda like a master form in itself As to how many is too many, or too less....that is open to interpretation
