My first exposure to martial arts came at a young age because my mom bought me "Enter The Dragon" after that I was obsessed with martial arts so when I was about 6 years old my mom signed me up for Karate lesssons I did that for about a year untill I moved to Tennessee I was upset untill I foun out that my elementry school offered TKD lessons I did that untill fourrth grade when I moved back to Indiana. After that I did not do martial arts for a while but I kept reading books like "The Gracie Way" and "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do" and I eventualy found the school I am at now. I would love to hear other peoples experience in martial arts
Personaly I like my schools system of trainig: First we start with JKD where we practice strikeing combos and trapping or we train with kali sticks then we move into the BJJ part of class where we will train either with or without the gi.
As far as style I would have to say that JKD would probably be very effective against say a Karate guy because it incorperates many styles, however from what I have studied there is only stand up and clinch, there is very little ground element, so I sugest learning JKD and a grappling style to go with it like BJJ
Judo Guy said: "When I say a dead art I mean as far as adding NEW techniques to the core curriculam. Certainly you will have variations of the techniques but the tried and true techniques are what will stand as canon much like the 67 throws and 29 grappling techniques of the kodokan." How can you say BJJ is a dead art, what about the X-guard, kuala guard, and butter fly guard that have only recently been developed Also BJJ as a sport is a good thing, in fact that insures that it will not become a dead art. because as long as people keep competing they will keep finding new techniques
Bruce Lee, Because I realy like JKD and his philosophy on life, Helio Gracie, because he realy developed BJJ, Wellington "Megaton" Diaz, because he is an awsome BJJ coach, and Dan Inosanto, one of Bruce Lee's head students
I live about 1/2 hour from Terre Haute and atend McVickers Martial Arts there I have been going for about 6 months and love it. We practice Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, and Filipino Martial Arts. For more infogo to https://www.jackmcvicker.com If thats not what you are looking for there are also your basic Karate and Tkd schools around, but McVickers is the best!
My JKD teacher always tells us not to depend on a certain art, but to be open to many different styles. "If any style teaches you a method of fighting, then you might be able to fight according to the limit of that method, and realy that is not fighting as is" -Bruce Lee
First of all how can you compare Vitors stand up to Wanderlei? Second the Chute Box Academy is prrobably has the bes all around game around. Pride also has other good middleweights like Igor Vovchanchyn, and Ryan Gracie
