That jacket is old school. And there's no school like the old school.

Could someone define budo?

I was talking to a friend who trains shotokan karate, and she says there are only two or three belt levels. There was white and black (of course), but I think there may have been another belt level. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks.

Does anyone know Victoria, BC? At the University of Victoria they have a rabbit/bunny problem. There must be thousands of them strewn all over the campus. They are quite small and little usually. The other day though I saw a huge one about four times as big as the other ones. I think it must have been someones pet that they released. It's too bad there as so many as they get picked on by bored students. One got an arrow through its back leg. BB guns pick a few off as well I think. They're damn cute though. It's like you walked into the place where they make all the cadbury cream eggs.

You get the money and then move to the Caiman Islands and you get to keep all of it. I watched the pasta episode. It didn't appeal to me too much. He wasn't mean the entire time and I was disappointed. The people on the show aren't that interesting either. That guy who talks to himself every night? What a camera hog. Oh, look at me, pay attention to me, oh look, I'm the only one on t.v. now! Oh please choose me as fan favourite! Never, I say!

Star wars Episode 3 : aww yeah!!
ivette_green replied to Son Goku the monkeyking's topic in General Chat
Bad movie. Lucas needed to hire people to flesh out his script and he needed someone else to direct it. Such cheesy dialogue. "You're breaking my heart!" Yes, that line has never been used before. I hope that after he dies they wrestle the rights away from his empire and make the last three movies and make them well. -
I want to get a tattoo when I reach brown belt or black belt. The thing about tattooing Japanese characters onto your body is that you wouldn't tattoo those words in English onto your body, it would look lame. So why do it in another language? And then you just have to explain to everyone what they mean. That being said, the only characters I would get tattooed onto me are "ultimate truth." It's just as much a symbol as it is writing. My friend is training to be a tattoo artist. So by the time she has years of experience under her belt and I actually have some skill I'll phone her up. Well, that's the plan anyways.

Where do you train?

A martial art that is easy on joints... I agree that it sounds like an oxymoron. Maybe wait another ten years and then join Tai Chi.

I see people around here listing a half dozen names of different MAs under their ID. Questions for people training all these different MAs: Are you training all of them currently? (If you are training all of them, how often do you train them?) or Is it more of your MAs history? (Would you say that you knew each of these styles?) Thanks!

Having good training partners
ivette_green replied to Adonis's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Yes, I definatly like the "feed back" partner. I also like the "better than me" partner. Training with a higher belt I find very helpful, frustrating for them, but good for me. -
Putting McDojos out of Business
ivette_green replied to Infrazael's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Knowledge would put most of them out of business. Those people don't know they're being ripped off and being taught little. -
My mother seems immune to bites. She doesn't develope the itchy bump. She didn't seem to pass this on to any of her children though...

r u better at patterns or sparring?
ivette_green replied to Jane_Doe's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I can fumble through kata better than I can get beat-up. -
What country do you train in? That seems like a young age for shodan. I think you probably do not train IKO then if that is the age limit.

This past March I went to a winter camp that my Sensei organizes every year. This August there is going to be a summer camp that is supposed to have even more members attending. The location where it is being held is supposed to get quite hot, so I am not looking forward to being out in 30 degree weather with my gi on.

Kenpo is a style of boxing? Sorry if I'm totally wrong, could some one give me a better description?

24 hours a month divided by 25 dollars a month, whatever that turns out to be in dollars an hour is a very good rate (IMO and all that).
-
Ah, thank you. Is it a rank, like shihan or sensei? Or a title?
-
Ah, well. When we do non-contact sparring we don't stand sideways.

I'm just a baby in kyokushin. I'm 9th kyu and I started training this past september. My Sensei is on the boards as "osu no seichin." I'm not sure if he'd like his real name to be on the boards, so I'll err on the side of caution. We're testing in December so hopefully I'll be 8th by then. Thanks for the info guys (and gals?)! A week and no karate... I'm going into withdrawal...

Sorry, that's all I know about the guy. 50 9th degree black belts? That's quite a few.
