  1. Fine, I admit, I'm just scared by his tragic facial hair.
  2. My dojo may be an exception, but to say we do not do sparring every class does not mean we do not do a lot of pad work or work on our basics. Without going over your basics regularly, where would your sparring be? I do not disagree that Sensei Tats Nakamura is a great teacher, but he also runs more dojos than anyone else in BC in the most populated part in BC. It would be odd if he didn't produce world class fighters. You guys sound like old-timers if you're beating the living day-lights out of each other each sparring session.
  3. They should introduce kickboxing into the Olympics not karate. Karate has too much spirit and history to be pulled down by calling it a sport.
  4. I think kyokushin is a complicated martial arts, because yes, at the proffesional level of fighting the people who compete are extraordinary and can endure much pain. Also, their lives revolve around sparring and I would hazzard a guess that they do much less self defense and kata in their training. But in the dojo, in a less goal driven atmosphere I think sparring is a lot less of the program than it is made out to be. I do not have a high pain threshold. We do very light sparring once a week and it is more fun than pain. Don't let the fear of pain (that isn't there most of the time) stop you from doing anything. Believe me, blisters have caused me more pain than sparring in the dojo.
  5. What is this tea ceremony of which you speak?
  6. How high is yellow belt in your style?
  7. It means self defense.
  8. I'm about as out of shape as they come and I still enjoy training three times a week doing kyokushin. Never let that stand in the way!
  9. There are quite a few styles of Martial Arts, but really it should only be top three or five of the most deadly.
  10. For a lot of people I do not think there should be any issues with their mothers or fathers. I do not think there are many people here that are under 16 or 17. Sure, I'm 18, but I drive or walk.
  11. It's all in the hips.
  12. This whole topic was very interesting and covered a lot of ground about when injuries happen in sparring. Very cool.
  13. It takes a lot to keep going in Martial Arts, especially when you plan on doing it for the majority of your life time. So I pose this question, are you born with perserverance (in your brain physiology or genetics) or is it something that is taught to you by your parents (or perhaps forced onto you by your enviroment in some cases)? This all goes back to the old personality question, are you yourself because of nature or nuture?
  14. I suppose you mean the translation of the word, and goshin jitsu means self defense. Gotta love that Japanese.
  15. You should say, if you cannot do these things then why are you here? And the response is, she can do them and that is why she stays. Well, I suppose don't say it to her it would come off as pretty harsh, but think it...
  16. "Doing it" on prom night is so cliche. But, on another note... I am having my dress made by a seamstress and I saw the top of it the other night and it's going to be sweet!
  17. Very bad dialogue, but a fun movie to watch. If you've seen the other 5, you can't not see this one!
  18. Very good game. Great post!
  19. Does this knife kick have a japanese name? The description you are giving does not ring any bells.
  20. I'm not much of a side-kick thrower. Perhaps I will try that more the next time I spar...
  21. Interesting drill. Sometimes I wonder where they come up with that stuff...
  22. Kyokushin. It would be between Muay Thai and Kyokushin, but kyokushin has a larger range of techniques that would be more helpful in a giant fight,
  23. My Sensei is just fine, any more intense and I would start to wither.
