  3. my self and 2 of my 3 brothers all took classes. one brother started before i did and got his shodan in tae kwon do. my other brother and i started shorin ryu. he quit becaus of college and i am still taking classes.
  4. i think there would be different levels of mercy. example if someone shoves you compared to someone trying to attack you witha knife. also, you need to ask, what can you morally live with when its all said and done. could you bear the guilt of causing one to be permantly blind or crippled? i think theres a grey area because its up to your moral code what punishment fits the crime.

    The BEST

that karate kind song post was funny! just keep working hard, don;t skip class, and practice outside of the dojo
  6. i agree with everyone else? how do they kind of suck? i've seen dudes drop serious blows with precision and power. cung le is real nice with his legs. i enjoy ufc alright, but i think this is more exciting because they don't roll on the ground forever. maybe you caught a bad match or some beginners or something.
  7. ive heard tettsui called a hammerfist.
  8. even though it might not be the most traditional of styles in the core. I would think any kind of training would be better than none at all. Plus The brazilian jujitsu will only give you more tools to choose from. I say go for it.
  9. ive been working out in the gym as well as karate practce for years and this denisty training cincept is new to me, but one that i think I will give a shot
  10. i didnt realize some of the close ties between religon and martial arts. i treat both seperately
  11. tiger claw makes a very good quality heavyweight gi, for about 40-50. i've had mine for years and it hasnt rippe d or anything. https://www.tigerclaw.com
  12. i would say Shorin Ryu. the fighting, techniques and kata should be extermely sudfficent for you. i don;t know much about enshi though, and considering i have been involved in shorin ryu for years, i am somewhat biased.
  13. yeah i was thinking that perhaps it was out of date. Mr. McIntosh is currently teaching a few of us privately, so if someone was trying to find his dojo, it's closed as well. thanks for your help though , and i'm sure by August, i'll figure something out.
  14. conqueror< do you know Robbie Mayer? he's listed as a Shorinkan teacher in Indian Trail which is outside of Charlotte, but I can't locate him. I am currenlty training with Willie McIntosh in Shelby, but he is retiring in August and am not sure what to do afterwards, and thought about checking Mr. Mayer out. I live in Charlotte now. Travelling to hendersonville may be one of my options as well thanks jn
  15. yeah i train with weapons regulalrly, in addition to fighting and kata. I am knowledgeable with the Bo, Sai, Nunchaku, Tonfa, and Kama. I feel like they carry over as far as being able to pick up any object and applying the principles learned. I just was wondering how prevalent Kobodu is throughout the martial arts/ karate community. I appreciate the feedback.
  16. heres a good one. do a front kick a few times and have the opponent block it. this is used as bait to set them up. after they succesfully block 2 o3 3, go as if you are performing a nother front kick. when they block low, raise up on the back leg and your actually doing a kind of heel stomp kick. if you bait them right, and then rise over their block and land this, its awesome. be careful though, because it can be dangerous. ave it for when your insturcitr is allowing heavy sparring
  17. SORRY FOR THE TYPOS IN MY MESSAGE..I DIDN'T REALIZE IT BEFORE I HIT SUBMIT.
  18. do you think to be the complet all around martial artist, you should know fighting in astanding postition, ground fighting, and have knowledge of weapons? if you excel in fighting, should weapons be a requirwemen? I practice kobudo and enjoy it, but just thought i'd see what people thought.
  19. it seems based on this thread that many schools still participate in line work after all.
  20. i think there are pros and cons to having it in the Ollympics. it could increase its populalrity and entusiasm for it, and attendance could get to like it was in the 70's and 80's
  21. i actually just went to bestbuy.com and they said a wide screen dolby sound U.S. version will be released Aug 30th
