  1. Hey, I live in Portland Oregon too.. I tryed searching but the only one I could find was the Northwest place you were talking about. Oh well.
  2. I live in Oregon too! Welcome!
  3. Welcome Shoalin Princess. Hmm, isn't shodan 3rd degree black belt? That's pretty fast.
  4. I'm still in school... I don't like ANY subject.. Stupid school.
  5. I heard of a guy would was in a fight. anyway, without even thinking he dodged a punch and striked the other guy's head. once it was all over, he could barely remember what happened... he had only be doing martial arts for about a year. but are you serious that everyone has the same reflexes? I think mine are pretty slow...
  6. ME and Jackie Chan! then i can see how good the good MAtists are in real life. of course i'd get my arse kicked, but that's okay! it would still be cool... but seeing that i'm no MA star or anything.. probably jet li and jackie chan.
  7. hmm, coudln't you kinda move with the boxer tho? i really have no idea how chi sao is done, sorry if that seemed like a pretty ignorant question.
  8. From what I have read about chi sao/sticky hands, it makes you more sensitive of your opponents movements.. I think. So does that mean if you train in it you'll know what someone's going to do before they do it if it does, then could it help in sports.. let's say volleyball. because you'd know where the balls gonna go. lol, jus trying to find some ways to make martial arts useful for everydady life.
  9. sorry guys.. posted twice. [ This Message was edited by: Hiya on 2002-07-11 19:13 ]
  10. -: you said to go with your instincts. well saying that i knew nothing about ninjutsu and wing chun(tho i do know a bit about each art but not much.. i havent tried either one out), and I had a good "feeling" towards wing chun, and a "bad" feeling towards ninjutsu(not the school, but the art).. should I go with my instincts?
  11. Eye of the Tiger, if I were you(which im not), I would stick with karate for about another month... But it's your choice. when i started TKD, i liked it, but then a month later i decided i hated it, but I continued and now i love it once again. if you bought a year membership, you might as well stick to it a while and save your money. after a year if you still hate it take whatever you want. And not all kung fu are "jumping high in the air doing summersaults" Northern shaolin, wushu, and some may be like that, but arts like wing chun uses more hand techniques, and low kicks. i think the southern ones use more hands hmm, well, whatever you choose, goodluck.
  12. I wouldn't even think twice about JKD and go straight into wing chun. though if there was a ninjutsu school nearby.. well you know the rest since you read my post..
  13. also i may be totally wrong here, but wouldn't bujinkan be better for self defense? im asking this because it uses weapons, grappling, striking, etc, while wing chun doesn't really cover ground fighting and i don't think it covers throwing? im not too sure though. hmm.
  14. -: I think I have a lot of time. im plan on doing martial arts until I'm too old(i'm 13 now), but i don't know if i will stick with bujinkan. also i am even thinking about aikido if it uses a lot of ki. yeah, I'd say I should flip a coin. And thanks for your answer Radok, the only straight one lol.
  15. Looks like everyone has different opinions. Maybe a long time ago ninja's were what -: had to say about em.. but how about the "modern" day ninja? that might be different. And -: can I call you smily face or something? thanks.
  16. They help you with your concentration.. I don't think it's that useless..
  17. This is kind of off topic, but Is ki emphasized a lot in aikido? Like when you throw your opponent, do you also use ki or is it just a small part of aikido?
  18. lol when i first looked at the site i thought he was a girl... but anyway, the game sounds cool since it has real ma moves. is it for playstation(1 or 2?) only?
  19. lol so what I've been hearing was wrong all along. I use to have a best friend from england when I was young, I thought her accents were kinda cool, I tryed copying her, but she got mad at me!
  20. Exactly what is a sanchin? Whatever it is, I'll try to find out if that's true or not..
  21. Ki kung? Yeah it's chi kung, or qi gong, or chi gung, but not ki kung, and you don't manipulate energy in chi kung, you cultivate it. If I were to, I would probably do this...: Wing chun for hands TKD for kicks BJJ for grappling Tai chi for health and chi ninjutsu for weapons. I WISH I could do all those arts..
  22. umm, i think those england accent thingies are neat. i try speaking with that accent, i just can't..
  23. hm is it true that 1 out of every 3 women get attacked during one point of their lives? if this is true i think all women should get into a martial art... I know it works because three men attacked a girl who took a martial art and she beat them all up, broke one of their bone.. i think we should stop doing this men against women thing.. sure most men may be stronger, but we are all equal and unique in our own way. I mean, even if men are stronger if women are well trained they can become as good, if not better. Strength isn't everything and there are arts like aikido where strength doesn't matter much. wasn't it bruce lee who could beat body builders or something?
  24. For flexibility just keep stretching, but make sure you know some good info on flexibility before you start. Remember that it's best for you to stretch when your muscles are warmed up. As for speed, try sprinting for 10 seconds, then 20 seconds, then 30 seconds, then 40 seconds, and up to 200 seconds.
  25. lol yeah... I don't like depending on someone else, but still im happy my boyf is stronger then me, now he can go do all the dirty work!
