  1. No problem, yeah basically I meant Okinawans picked up "some" techniques from China and took some back and formed their own systems like karate etc..
  2. My interest in the sai to be honest was watching hte teenage mutant ninja turtles when I was a youngin'...I hated raphael but loved his weapons...I was fascinated by them, and now I train with them....they've always just been there and been interesting to me.
  3. I do fight grounded very occasionaly, mostly on close-in fighters, but with those people (like most) that like to keep a handshake away, it's rabbit time for me. The first time I ever went to a dojo when I sparred very first time ever I was bouncy. Now I"m so used to it, and I try to confuse by making feints, and weird movements...it works for me but I guess to each his own.
  4. No that's not at all what I meant..lol, sorry I came across the wrong way.
  5. Yeah that's pretty weird stuff.
  6. Anybody watch ghost hunters? Remember the episode of the lighthouse where they saw a black caped thing get up and run down the hall? Now THAT was freaky.
  7. Great story...I remember somebody at our dojo like that, everytime a girl walked in he tried to impress them and started beating up other students...eventually he got kicked out of our dojo by sensei.
  8. I died from laughter watching this...just listen to the guy's so called "manager". http://http.dvlabs.com/adcritic/a/d/i/adidas-tae-kwan-do.mov
  9. Hi there and welcome here.
  10. I wanna see boogieman and hide & seek.
  11. Haha pretty cool.
  12. U.S.A. here.
  13. Hey you forgot about water polo & pumpkin throwing...who would ya marry for that? My two guesses would be the Dutch and Ukrainians.
  14. Sounds like you really enjoy it, and that's all that counts. What style does he teach?
  15. Are you allowed to use any type of wrap at all? Try soaking them in hot water a bit after karate, this will make them feel better..but I guess the only thing I can tell you is more time...If they don't heal after that then I don't really know what to tell ya...
  16. You can find many stretching sites online, just google it. I have my own routine but everybody's is different. Just be sure to stretch the hamstrings, and any other muscle ya think you need. Toe touches are perfect for front kicks, because that's what a front kick uses.
  17. I carry around my feet, for running.
  18. I agree, not much use for them in today's world, seeing as how a fan with a dragon painted on it wn't stand up to a gun or knife, but I believe they are more used along the kata line...closed to hit with the tip in vital areas.
  19. Was it an opewn-tournament? It sounds kung-fu'ish to me..but I am most likely wrong
  20. I use cotten pads, and the century brand is really good.
  21. All of the tournies I have been to have had a great atmosphere, but some people are just...to say it blatantly...ignorant when it comes to karate. They don't know what sportsmanship means...and those are the kinds of tournaments to stay away from.
  22. Yeah, ask your sensei about tournies, he/she should know everything and be able toc lue you int he most...points are normally awarded for sweeps, and clean hits/kicks.
  23. My first tourny was when I was a white belt...15-16 year old divisions...I got 1st in kumite, 1st in kata, and 3rd in weapons..grand champion overall..it was my greatest day.
  24. I agree, joint locks can end a fight before it even starts. All you've got to do is practice with it until you have total confidence in it. No confidence = hesitation = vegetation state. All about training with it long enough.
