Huh Earn Black Belt at home??
dtstiachi replied to Samurai Shotokan's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Only if your parent is your teacher. -
Hello everyone, The headmaster at my school has a Doctorate in Martial Arts Philosphy from an accredited univeristy. Anyone here heard of such a program?

I'm not a woman, but there are several friends of mine in the class who are and they are doing great. The best assistant instructor at the school is also a woman (and man will she ever work you). It's not fair really, I try my best to do the form and make it look good, but on my best day I can't get it to look as good as the girls. Oh well, it is a great class and I am glad I get to train with the ones at the school. They are all great.

Amazing internal arts feats

No Taji Fajin I am serious. There was a Chinese gentlemen who was looking at possibly becoming an assistant instructor for the school and he wanted the headmaster to show him a powerful technique. The headmaster said he could "fa jing" or push the guy to show his power. The gentleman let him do it and teh headmaster pushed him nearly 20 feet and through a wall that was incomplete in it's construction. The headmaster quickly ran over and ressusitatted the man and helped him up. The Chinese man thanked the headmaster for the lesson and then went back where he came from. There were no hard feeling by anyone and the gentleman had a first hand glimpse of the power that can be generated by a Tai Chi master. -
slomo, you live in Jax. I was born and raised there and my family still lives there. ( I do too when not in school) Where do you train?

I will be praying for your ministry and may God bless you in the future.

What do I say when given a compliment?
dtstiachi replied to senna_trem's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I say " thank you" followed by their name or rank. -
My school was nice enough to give me the rest of the month (3 lessons) for free when I signed up with the school. Is this a common procedure at your schools? Do you give a trial lesson, or a trial week, or a trial month? Thanks for your imput.

Hey Guys and Girls, I have a question about assistant instructors. (I might vent a little bit so please bear with me ) At our school, the headmaster is responsible for teaching us our lessons, but there are some nights that he sits in his office and watches on his monitors as the assistant instructors teach part of a lesson or review something we have worked on in the past. I know many of you are instructors and assistant instructors in your own respective styles or you will most likely be one someday if you keep with it. My question/complaint deals with the lack of uniformity between the assistant instructors. The assistant instructors at the school do a good job, but they can also be totally different. One will tell you to do a movement one way. Five minutes later, another assistant is correcting and changing what their fellow instructor said. Does this happen often at your school? I can think of times when I have left class very frustrated because the assistant instructors are not on the same page when it comes to teaching a particular lesson or techique. Any comments, instruction, or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey everyone I have a quick question about "keeping the back straight." I am told this over and over by the assistant instructors. "have a straight line from the root of the spine all the way to the headtop." I hear over and over and over again. When doing warmups, they tell us the same thing. Do your arts also stress a straight spine? I look foward to reading your imput. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis greenbelt_girl15. Try a calcium supliment and I would consider doing some Zhuan Zhuang training to help stregthen your bones. My grandmaster at school was diagnosed with osteoarthitis at a very early age and he is still "kickin". He practiced Zhuan Zhuang and it helped him tremedously. Good luck

I agree with greenbelt_girl15, Try doing crunches. They will help stregthen the abdominal area and minimize back cracking. just reember to lift just your shoulders off the mat and don't crane your neck. hope this helps

hey Jack, Remember to schedule time for your body to rest and recover. I agree with the post that say you may be overtraining. Listen to your body. It will tell you when you need to quit and how far it can be pushed. Good luck and stay safe.

Will weight lifting affect at a young age growth?
dtstiachi replied to LuBuWarrior's topic in Health and Fitness
I don't think lifting will hurt your brother or anyone at a young(er) age. I would take caution however, to be mindful of their body. It will be changing and an injury now could have disasterous consequences down the road. Be careful and have a good time getting stronger. -

I found this website a few days ago. http://www.k2labs.org/kungfusion/martial/kempo/points/points.htm It shows the different meridians and pressure points on the body. I hope this helps.

I saw my headmaster push a guy through a wall and then went over and hit the right meridians to resuccitate him. -
Isn't knowing something better than knowing nothing? I think there are too many variables to accrately answer if an art is "truly combat effective." Many arts have been around for a several hundred years and they havn't lasted because they were for "sport." Oh well, here are my 2 cents.
