  1. I concentrate on a song or passage that I have learned. I have several songs that are roughly a minute long and if I go over them in my head, I will forget the pain that I am in and the time will move quicker. I also will meditate while watching my favorite TV program.
  2. Our headmaster showed us a new posture to stand in last night. He also is having us stand in postures from the form as part of our stance training. Last night, he had us posting for over 30 minutes in different postures. Usually he doesn't do warm ups, (the assistant instructors handle that), but he came out and really worked us hard last night. It was tough, but a great workout
  3. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold. Proverbs 22:1
  4. No, I am a Christian, so if I die, I go to heaven to be with Jesus Christ my savior forever. He took the sting of death for me so I have nothing to fear.
  5. Some people believe Chi healing can be done by a person using some Chi Kung excersizes or excercizes done in Tai Chi to relax the body and improve the circulation. My Grandmaster told us that some cancer hospitals use Tai Chi as a way of supplementing the treatment given to a patient. As for Chi Healing. I don't know about any instances where people have been miraculously, (ie. faith healing) healed with any Chi Kung or Chi methods. I do know that doing some Chi Kung or Tai Chi excercizes can help improve different areas of the body. A quick testimony. One morning after I woke up I realized that I had slept on my neck wrong and had a horrible kink in it. It was very bad and I had to turn my torso to talk to people. I went to the gym and did my tai chi workout, and I did Zuang Zhuang training for about 15 minutes after my initial warmup. Strangely enough, after the 15 minutes were up, the kink in my neck was gone. The muscles had relaxed through doing the excercize and I had no pain after that. I hope this personal story helps someone. As far as major Chi Healings go, I can't comment.
  6. Zhan Zhuan training will help you in grounding. the longer you hold the posture the deeper into the ground your root will go. Chi Kung excersizes can be used by Wing Chun and Gong Fu practicioners to help them attain a deeper power in their techniques. They will also help improve circulation and Chi flow in the body.
  7. Hello, My headmaster last night was talking about pressure points and accupunture meridians on the body. He was telling us about the health benefits of them and some of the martial benefits of them. Can anyone show a website or information dealing with pressure points in the body as related to the MA? If there is a post on this already, I apologize. Thanks for the help
  8. I am talking about examples or step by step instructions where one can see push hands being done. My instructor does push hands training about 2-3 times a year. I have read all of the information dealing with pushhands and I have practiced them myself both alone and with a partner. I just wanted to see if there were any video examples that I could also look at on the web to see push hands being done. thanks
  9. I'm just curious, As a Tai Chi practicioner we focus a lot on our lower body strength and flexibility, (strong legs and waist/abdominal area) We don't however, do much for the upper body. My grandmaster has told us that doing Zhan Zhuang training (posting) will increase your upper and lower body strength. I have been posting for up to an hour a day. I don't necesarrily look stronger, (i.e. ripped chest etc,) but I do feel stronger. Is there anyone out the who does internal arts and can help me with upper body strength (ie. moves, excercizes, comments on Zhan Zhuang, etc) Thank you
  10. great post Kickchick, thank you My teacher in Tai Chi reminds us to keep the hips and waist level. (this is one of our shenfa or torso methods that is foundational for all good Tai Chi practice) He tells us to pull up the parenieum, (the little piece of muscle in between your genital area and your anus) and by pulling that up, it will level out your waist and help keep your spine in proper alignment. I hope this helps.
  11. train your abs to failure every day. wait 24 hours before you train them again. I would go for 6 days a week if I were you. Vary the workout as far as machine, crunches, obliques, reverse crunches, leg lifts, etc. good luck
  12. hey Bon, You may already know this, but running alone isn't going to help you get "ripped" legs. If you want to develop "ripped" muscles, you need to do weight training, high weight and low reps. Something like heavy squats 5-6 reps 2-3 sets (Heavy) Leg extension 5-6 reps, 2-3 sets (heavy) Leg press 5-6 reps, 2-3 sets (heavy) wait about a minute or two inbetween sets. This will help you build visible muscle in the leg. I am a runner and have strong toned legs. Running tones up your muscles, not "rips" them. Good luck and safe training.
  13. call me crazy but this will help you. Zhuan Zhuang training (also known as standing on stake methods or posting) can help one who is suffering from arthritis. My grandmaster started having trouble with arthiritis at an early age and it has helped him tremendously. Check it out on the web and find out more about this kind of training. I hope this is helpful and good luck
  14. hard work along with a good diet will "mold that six pack" Try doing between 200-300 cruches a day. I did them a few years ago and I had a 6 pack, unfortunately, I let it go and am now trying to get it back. Watching what you eat is also important. Good luck and happy reps.
  15. I have noticed a very sharp pain in my left knee area when I lie on my left side on that leg. This started happening last Dec. after I finished posting (or Zhuan Zhang training) It has only happened 2 times since then, but the pain was enough to lift me out of bed. I am slightly confused about the pain because my knee doesn't hurt at all except when I lie on that one side that one particular way. I can run, kick, do Tai Chi, spar, lift weights etc, and my knee doesn't bother me. Only when I lie on my left side at a certian time does it bother me. Any ideas or helpful tips would be appreciated. If the condition gets any worse, I am going to see a doctor, but it is so random and sparce I don't want to really blow a lot of money on it. i also don't want him to tell me I have to quit the Martial Arts. (*probably my biggest fear) My knee hasn't hurt for several weeks and I hope it stays that way. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Thank you.
  16. 9-10 hours of sleep, Wow. That would be nice. I'm in graduate school so I get about 3-4 hours of sleep a night. I can do this for about 2 weeks straight befor I need to crash for 12-14 hours to recharge my batteries. I have heard that too much sleep is a bad thing. My problem is not getting enought sleep.
  17. I love drinking coke. My father is CONSTANTLY on me for it. I tell him I am 23 and can make my own choices, but he chooses to fuss anyway. Oh well. I have tried to limit my intake of them and i think I have had a limited amount of success. NEway, those are my 2 cents
  18. I don't know much about the ab lounge, but I purchased the 6 second abs machine and it is working quite well for me. Hopefully I will regain my 6 pack in a few weeks. lol.
  19. i practice in the dance studio at the local fitness center. The studio has hardwood floors like my school and it has mirrors, olympic grade training mats, and mirrors all around the room so I can watch my technique. I really enjoy practicing there. I hope this helps
  20. there is a teacher in Florida that teaches Wuzuquan. I have also been unsuccessful in finding out more information on this. Good luck with your search
  21. great post ChangWuJi Tai Chi was from its inception, a fighting art. Our school and my grandmaster still teaches us Tai Chi as a fighting art. The training is intense and I love it. I would recommend anyone who wants to consider a fighting art look at Tai Chi and seek out a qualified instructor who understands the power of this ancient internal art.
  22. great book. My JKD instructor called it the Karate Bible.
  23. E: the best My grandmaster is VERY VERY traditional Chinese martial artist. He is very humble, an amazing fighter, scholar, and teacher. One day I hope to be Half as good as he is.
