  2. Does anyone here know where I could find some video or mpegs of people doing push hands training (tueo sho)? I searched the net but didn't find many MPEG style examples. Would someone like to talk further about push hands with me? Thanks
  3. hey everyone. I am a Tai Chi practicioner and we do practice "Tue sheo" or "Push Hands" This is different from "sticky hands" chi shou that is done in wing chun. Any other thoughts and comments on "push hands" Thanks for the help.
  4. just curious, I know that "falling through" the guys arms will get you out of the hold, but isn't ending up on the ground in front of him a bad way to start a fight? What do you think?
  5. what about tai chi? would you say it is a practical Chinese Martial Art?
  6. A buddhist wants to be one with the universe, Nirvana. My friend at school told it to me and it is really corny. I hope this reply helps.
  7. that's funny
  8. a wife goes in and tells her husband that she thinks there is water in the radiator. Water in the Radiator, you don't know the radiator from the windshield. By the way, where is the car, he replied. "in the swimming pool" she exclaimed
  9. Ok guys and girls, I apologize in advance So a Buddhist walks up to a hotdog stand and says ,"make me one with everything!"
  10. My name is John and I am a 23 year old Graduate school student working on a masters degree in Dallas, TX. My style is Tai Chi and I am really lovin it. Drop me a line and say hi. Later
  11. Unfortunately he was serious. Oh Well, I'm still washing mine every week.
  12. I started when I was a senior in High School (17). After college I started a different style. I am now 23 and loving Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. You are never to old to learn something you are interested in!
  13. I took from a guy up north who promised to "turn me into a blackbelt overnight" I was foolish enough to give this man $300.00 for training videos that would take me from a yellow belt to a 3rd degree black belt + be a certified instructor. Learn from my mistake. I blew $300.00 on a bunch of videos filmed at a dojo from a guy I had never met and who's techniques could get one hurt. Be wary of these kinds of teachers. Seek qualified instructors and ask questions. I hope this helps.
  14. My Headmaster at my school was telling us about washing our uniforms one day when he told us that sometimes it is better NOT to wash your uniform and to let the sweat, blood, tears, etc. build up over the years and that that will make your uniform "special" I wash mine twice a month. Has anyone experienced this "not washing uniform" to get " a real feel" for the martial arts. Does all of that "energy" as he would say or "spirit of the uniform" really make up for the smell that would come after many years of training? Thank you for your answer to this mostly curious question.
  15. Check out this website for a Tai Chi sword http://www.rsw.com.hk/carp.htm I don't know that much about the guy but he has some great reviews and his sword looks really good. Also check out Tai Chi swords by Paul Chen at http://www.weaponmasters.com/?ID=WEAPONS&ITEM=PC-1013GT Both swords cost around between $400-$500 but I have read great reviews about both sword makers and swords. I am not to the point where I am using the sword yet, but one day I will own a fine Tai Chi sword, and from what I can tell, both of these are top quality. I hope this helps.
  16. Chinese Chair Squats I hate this blasted excersize. The assistant instructor in the class is 4' 7" and weighs 70 lbs. soaking wet. I'm 6' 190 lbs and not quite as limber and agile as her. She however thinks that everyone in the class has over 500 training hours like herself and she forgets that exercizes that are easy to her are murder for anyone larger. She is the best assistant instructor at the school and a great martial artist, but boy she will sure wear you out. I hate chinese chair squats but they have made my legs much stronger.
  17. I am a professing Christian and I have no problem doing martial arts. It is great excersize and I get to be a witness for Christ at my school.
  18. Good article. As a Christian I believe in not rendering evil for evil, but that interpretation does not mean that a Christian cannot defend himself. If someone attacks you, by all means defend yourself. The Old Testament Judges and leaders of Israel did it, The Christians did it during the Crusades. Protect your life at all cost.
  19. when you start to tense up from doing Zhan Zhuang training, relax. Start by relaxing your body from the feet up. Focus your mind on relaxing each body part and over time you will begin to feel your shoulders relax as well. I practice Zhan Zhuang for an hour every day and I can attest to the fact that you tense up. Try to calm your mind so you won't think about the discomfort. Go over your shenfa (torso methods) ankles released, knees over the toes, pareneum pulled up, back straight, shoulders back, headtop suspended, tongue on roof of mouth, headtop level. Review these torso methods and make sure they are in place while you are practicing Zhan Zhuang and this will also help get your mind off of the burning in your shoulders.
  20. jab your finger in the guy's eye. That should get him to let go. If that doesn't work, throw your head back so you crush his knuckles between his head and yours. Good luck
  21. I hit myself in the head with a pair of octagonal wooden nunckaku with a chain in the middle. My head started bleeding, but I got it to stop and went on with life. My mother always told me I had a hard head
  22. Has anyone heard of a Korean Martial Art called Yoshadai? (check spelling) I have a friend who is a black belt in it and he told me it came from Korea and that it is a powerful art that is not very well known. His intstructor was a retired Green Beret from the military. He put them through hell from what he told me. He called it full contact Karate and called it Yoshadai. Thanks for the help.
  23. hello, I have seen some of my older Tai Chi brothers and sisters work on the Tai Ji Jan or sword form. I really enjoyed watching them perform the form. One day, in a few years, I might be ready to learn the form and that will be a great day. My question is to all of your swordsman out there. I know the tai chi sword is sharpened on its upper 2/3rds of the blade. Some say razor sharp, others say extremely or very sharp. Anyway, after watching my Tai Chi brothers and sisters do the form, my question deals with actual combat. Could this sword and form actually be used to defeat an armed opponet? The form looks beatiful and I have heard it is pretty good for combat, but if a Tai Chi artist who was proficient in Tai Ji Jian were to fight someone with a katana or other sword, would they even have a chance? Thanks for your insight to this mostly curious question.
  24. you can't. Run as fast as you can and hope to God you survive. If you happen to have a gun and can shoot him. Do it. In any respects, get as far away as possible.
