  1. Congradulations! Keep it up!
  2. Hi Patrick and welcome!
  3. I always tell people that those that critcize katas have never done one correctly. It is a complete body workout!
  4. A good class will teach you how to stretch and will have you doing strength building exercises.
  5. Hi Fairfax_Uechi and welcome!
  6. Don't try to get in shape for martial arts training, train in martial arts to get in shape. In other words, just start training!
  7. Many people say that trying to learn too many techniques make you a jack of all trades and master of none. I would like to be a jack of all trades and a master of some. I would suggest that you learn as many different techniques as you can and CONCENTRATE on a smaller number of them. (whichever techniques appeal to you)
  8. Hi kanku and welcome!

  11. Hi bunyip and welcome!
  12. I've seen many schools with one year contracts.
  13. I have many dedicated BJJ friends and on average, they have trained about eight years (hardcore training) and none of them have their black belts. This may be a good course but the only way to be accepted as a black belt after such a short period would be to win a BJJ black belt competition and seeing IS believing.
  14. Hi CagedWarrior and welcome!
  15. Hi mantis and welcome!
  16. I also don't believe that it is your fault because it is normal for many to drop out. I think a lot of times it is because it gets more difficult as you move up in rank. Student dropouts is the reason that it is important to continually bring in new students and eventually you will end up with a hardcore group that sticks it out!
  17. Hi lapulid2 and welcome!

  19. Hi shinnekodo and welcome!
  20. I know what you shouldn't do.....go a long time with no training.
  21. Hi Drgnslyer and welcome!
  22. This is going back to doing whatever the instructor wants or don't want done. If the instructor wants you to wash your belt then you should wash it and if he doesn't want you to wash your belt, then you shouldn't. Doing what YOUR instructor tells you to do is practicing discipline and respect.
  23. I don't wash my belt for the simple reason that my instructor told me not to. I don't believe that it will wash away my knowledge but I do believe that it is important to practice discipline (doing what you are told to do...or not to do) and it is important to show respect for your instructor. Different people train for different reasons but for me, I still like to train in schools that practice discipline and respect. For those of you who train for the sole purpose of learning to fight, I respect your opinions as I have trained in fighting schools where etiquette was pretty much thrown out the window. Belts were often thrown on the floor, belts were washed, etc.) I respect these schools for their purpose (strictly learning to fight). I don't think that one type of school is better than the other, it all depends on your personal reason for training.
  24. Hi Keith and welcome!
