  1. Training in different styles simultaneously is good as long as they don't contradict each other......and as already said, as long as you have the time to practice both arts.

  7. Hi Jade Tigress and welcome!
  8. I built a school up to 26 students. Students quit for different reasons but the majority quit because they didn't like the sparring (semi contact). I currently teach 4 students and the rent comes out of my pocket.

  14. You should let him finish. I'm sure that the audience realizes that this is a beginner and a youngster. Some people in the audience might even get offended by you pulling him out.
  15. Congradulations, you demonstrated not only the technical knowledge but mental strength as well!

  19. Chuck Liddel is both a wrestler and BJJ practitioner so he knows how to defend against a takedown.
  20. I agree with previous posts that the way to learn to defend against a grappling art is to learn the art. I had many years of training in traditional karate prior to training in BJJ and I found that it was nearly impossible to prevent from being taken to the ground by an experienced grappler.
  21. Hi Luke and welcome!
  22. Sparring is the best way to find out where your weak point is. If you are consistantly hit in the same area, you know that this is where you must develop a better defense stategy. Your basic blocks are improved simply through practice, practice, and more practice. Remember that offense is your best defense. I always tell people that there are 3 stages to a martial artist's defense. 1. learn to block, then counter. 2. learn to block and counter at the same time. 3. counter without blocking by moving out of the line of attack and striking him.
  23. All arts have something good to offer, however from your statements, I would say that hapkido would be an excellent choice for your desires.
  24. Ali is certainly up there in my list of favorites! As he got older and slower, it was always exciting to see if he could win one more. His will power to keep fighting when he was hurt was an inspiration to me.
  25. bo, sai, nunchakus, tonfa, escrima sticks, cane, kama and a 45 mag!
