  1. Another book for great info is Unante The secrets of Karate by John Sells, I just recieved my copy last week and can not put it down.....Pictures, stories and great lineage charts just to name a few things and about 450 pages. http://www.martialsource.com/ Cheers
  2. You can not beat the the price. service, and quality of Eosin Panther....they used to be 2 min away from me in Jersey, now they are in Georgia....Excellent,Excellent, Excellent.
  3. Yes, I still do. Isshin Ryu will always be #1 with me, I am just interested in the Shorinjiryu because I understand it to be "pure" from Kyan Chotoku....no additions or subtractions. Figured if I can learn some of the "root" systems that were combined to form Isshin Ryu, it will make my understanding better. Where do you train and under whom...If you don't mind me asking?
  4. That would be great, Thanks
  5. I would have to say Shimabuku Tatsuo......but then I may be a little biased!!!!!!!
  6. Does anyone out there know of a dojo, preferable in northern New Jersey that teaches Okinawan Shorinjiryu karate from the Joen Nakazato lineage. Having been exposed to it once before, I really want to learn the art. Thanks
  7. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!! Congrats on your promotion.
  8. Congrats on the Gold!!!!! Keep up the good work
  9. I'm not sure but I don't think there is a distributor. You can get Shureido products from some stores but I think they just import on a small scale from Japan. I'm also pretty certain (although I could be wrong) that you cannot get the New Waves. Strange isn't it. You'd think that the UK market was big enough. you mean they will not export the new wave gi to the UK??????
  10. Cool, very close to my school also. we also require sanchin at ikkyu. Thanks
  11. Hi, I also study Isshin Ryu and was wondering what your requirements for brown belt are, always interesting to see what other dojo are doing. Thanks, John
  12. No one in the UK is a shureido distributor???? Someone somewhere has got to stock the stuff........I would hope?? Good luck, I personally wear the medium weight kw-11 so not much help. John
  13. Try https://www.shureidousa.com ---they are very friendly and helpfull. Hope this helps
  14. It is a shame, I love them too. They are one of the most complicated weapons to handle(in my opinion), and the most underrated.(again, just my humble opinion!)
  15. Great weapon the tekko....Originally two sharpened horseshoes. Also come in a "brass knuckle" variation. brass knuckle type can be seen here under kobudo equipment, https://www.shureidousa.com The horseshoe type can be seen here, http://www.okinawabudokai.org/images/tekko.jpg Hope this helps
  16. Bo....plenty of time for the other goodies!!
  17. Yes, tuifa/tunfa is the Okinawan hogen(dialect) for the weapon the Japanese call the tonfa. is it the same as tonfa?
  18. Thanks for the info...I was VERY suprised and pleased by the speed with which my questions were answered. My e-mails were answered within 2 hours by the owner. who was was very honest and helpful. Hopefully others on this and other board will contact them for info. I will let all know abou the gi when it arrives next week. Thanks again Jussi Häkkinen for your post. John
  19. Tuifa.....and now Tekko.
  20. I read your post and ordered a Tokon gi. I also wear shureido and am eagerly awating my tokon's arrival. In your opinion, how is the fit compared to shureido. I found the response to any and all questions from the company to be outstanding. Just wondering how the gi wears, fits, lasts etc; from a karate ka on the boards. Thanks.
  21. Sensei ni... REI!!! Congrats and many happy returns
  22. Well put....If you have the chance, after you visit the dojo's...try to research the sensei for both and then you can make the best choice. Styles don't matter much (my opinion) but the sensei and dojo are the best way to go!! Good luck and let us know what you choose. (Isshin Ryu would be my guess!! )
  23. Thanks Mr.Mike......worked great!!!
  24. Thanks, they only have the brass knuckle type. But thanks for replying!
  25. Now THAT is a long day!!!!
