  1. P.S. You might want to check this site out if you're interested in tournaments in CA. http://www.karatetournaments.com/uswest.htm
  2. This was in Gardena, hosted by Sensei Dan Sawyer and Sensei Richard Rabago.
  3. What do you all think of open tournments? I went to one today that featured only karate styles. I beat a Shorin Ryu person round 2 (got a by first round) and lost to a ryobu-kai person. Took second in kumite. I didn't place in kata.
  4. I'm really sorry to see that, Kicks. What's the condition of your house? We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Good Luck!
  5. Did you read my post above?
  6. How does one take a hard hit in the face? I can be punched full on in the body without effect (I used to have my friends at school punch me as hard as they could in the stomach) But I know if I get hit in the face, I will tear up. How do you "train" to take a hard hit in the face?
  7. Good luck, Kicks. I really hope that your house is in reasonable condition. Best of wishes to you.
  8. Welcome to KF, enjoy the forums.
  9. Well, he acts it out and if there's a problem in communicating, he'll explain in English. It actually should helpyou to speak French better, but you feel like a total idiot when the teachers talking to you in French and you're thinking what the heck are you saying?
  10. Are you defending yourself? I would just but myself a can of pepperspray.
  11. I started French 1 this week we have a "zero anglais" policy. If you talk in english 10 times, you lose all your points for the quarter. It's a pretty fun class- we have freshman and sophmores in the class.
  12. yeah, my father says to always be aware. And I like that idea of tossing stuff up and catching it. I found out someone at my high school does martial arts so just to test him, as he was walking down the hallway with his back to me, I called out his name and the second his head turned, I threw a small notebook at him. He's got amazing reflexes, it was a nice catch.
  13. Kicks- As sad and horrified as I am to read your post and see the news, I'm very glad to hear that you and your family are safe. I'm glad to hear that kind people are helping you out. I hope you will be are to save some things from your house and I hope it hasn't been looted. I wish you good luck when you begin to rebuild. Stay safe and healthy, and best wishes to you and your family.
  14. How to you get your reflexes quicker? I am pretty quick (For example, I'll catch something if it starts to fall) But how do you build your reflexes? I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this question right, but I think you guys get the idea. Thanks in advance
  15. I have heard of them. I'm a dog nut.
  16. I'm in the 3-4 category
  17. Some of you might not have started school yet, answer the question when you do.
  18. Teenagers train with the adults at my dojo, so they don't get to play games or anything like that.
  19. http://www.google.com/lochp try using google local. Type in your location and then martial arts, or judo, etc.
  20. Stay safe, Kicks
  21. Bernie, that was my math teachers joke, he just said that the paper that he got (I was transfered into his class) said to call me Bernie. Yoda, during 5th period last year, I was bored during class so I started talking like Yoda.
  22. I only speak English and Japanese
  23. I always get people asking me if I watch UFC when they find out I'm a martial artist. Tonight, my instructor mentioned it. What is UFC?
  24. 1. How many languages do you speak? 2. What are they? I'm trying to learn several different languages (or at least enough to communicate, not be fluent.) I speak English and Japanese, and I'm going to take French 1 next year. I'm learning Vietnamese from a friend and I know phrases in Spanish, Korean, and Chinese, and I'm working on Russian at home. What about you?
