Aikido and Realistic Attack
YODA replied to Shaolin's topic in BJJ, Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido, and Grappling Martial Arts
After reading this thread & it's obviously deluded opinion of how effective & well trained BJJ/GJJ person is at taking down, for example, a Wing Chun man - there's only one thing I can add really ..... _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-03-02 12:21 ] -
Yep - I've always lost out on prezzies - I either get one to cover both or just a token gesture for my birthday. That's why ever since I started earning my own money I've bought myself a birthday prezzie Last year I got myself a HP Jornada 540 PDA - very handy bit of kit

No Wushu is a Chinese generic name for martial arts. It's a bit like calling Japanese arts Budo, then referring to Okinawan Karate as Budo too. -
Yo Kickit Just interested - why are you wrapping your hands? What part of training?

Ah yes - so that means we must learn to expect the unexpected expected - then we will be prepared for anything that we err.... don't expect -
WOW! That's great! Sounds like a trip of a lifetime - get saving!

Hey Bretty It was a film ya know! It's not real Popping joints is the sound of pressure equalisation within your synovial joints. Not a problem unless you habitually do it - then you can cause wear & tear not by the cracking but by the manipulation that it involves - usually at a detrimental angle to the joint in question. If it happens naturally then fine, but don't do it on purpose - especially as a regular thing. _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-27 11:26 ]

Drink plenty fluids - I find beer helps with the pain, as does a nice glass of Laphroaig An Iboprofen based pain killer will help bring the swelling in the damaged area down. ..... and take it easy training for a while (yeah right, like I do - NOT)

Hey Jack Knowledge & wisdom are not the same - sounds like you turned one into the other

Drink plenty of water Take a good quality multivitamin & mineral daily Get plenty of sleep. Eat a high protein diet - get most of your carbs from veg & a little fruit. Minimise complex carbs. Eat at least 1200 calories per day but not more than 1600 Weight train to maintain lean body mass - a general full body workout, moderate weigth & reps (10-12reps). Consider taking L-Glutamine to help prevent muscle atrophy. Use a combination of aerobic endurance work (20-40min) and high intensity interval sessions (Sprints, stair runs etc). 20lbs is optimistic in 4 weeks - depends on how lean you are now. 15 is a viable goal I'd say. You could just train like a galley slave & east like a mouse but I'm guessing you'd still like to be in a fit state to perform on 25th March. _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-27 16:54 ]

Bruce Lee the TKD Connection
YODA replied to Iron Arahat's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Sijo Bruce Lee was a very good friend of TKD legend Jhoon Rhee - The two of them compared notes and trained together on many occasions. I think they both benefitted from the experience! _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-27 11:00 ] -

I've never actually timed how many punches I can do in a second. I've seen some very fast people who can errr..... extend their arm a lot of times per second but I wouldn't call it punching. I have timed how many quality stick strikes I can do in a given time - as our striking patterns in Eskrima are done by the stopwatch under grading conditions. Seven full power strikes with the stick per second is about my best - my Instructor has been clocked at 12 - how the heck are you supposed to defend against THAT? LOL! (The answer is the ancient art of leggit-fu!) _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-02-24 13:08 ] -
Hi Spooky Dog What lineage of Aikido so you practice? Are you familiar with Sensei Chiba's Jo system and his "Sansho" form? If not I would recommend you look at it.
-
Hi & welcome. How long have you been practicing Aikido?
-
Hey Jack Sounds like you need to get a new one. I'd also consider replacing the guitar
-
I prefer quickness of foot and mobility to any "stance"

Hi Welcome to the forums! Don't let the TKD nay-sayers getcha down!

lol! bALLERINA lol! What most fail to realise is that a top level ballerina trains a damned site harder than most of us martial artists. It reqires discipline, dedication & years of HARD work. We could learn a lot from their dedication & work ethic. I'd give it a go but the tutu clashes with my earings
