Took some getting my head roung but now that I now the details I think she should go - permanently. Also there should be a major enquiry into how the hell the glaring warning signs were ignored - and people responsible should be held accountable.

Wow Sai - and I thought I was the only one who took HIS ***** to the bathroom with him My GATO loves the bathroom formsome strange reason. Ah well - it's company

Sounds like this lady needs help. Can't say much more without knowing more - is there a website with more info? Revenge should never be an issue in dishing out "punishment" - Is she a threat to society? If so she should be removed from that society until she is no longer a threat. If evidence proves beyond reasonable doubt that she knew what she was doing & was able to choose & know right from wrong she should die - but not out of revenge, out of protection for our society.

....... If anyone in the UK cannot get to a Heatlth Rack I could send you some Glucosamine. No problem. In fact I think they do mail order too.
-
If anyone in the UK wants Glucosamine then go to a "Health Rack" - you'll pay half price or less than the major places like Holland & Barrat or Boots, and I can see no difference in effectiveness.

Give me a clue - who's Andrea Yates?
-
...... easy - if he has it, assume he's prepared to use it.

"unless you are a strong ground fighter" --------- Maybe become a good ground fighter? I firmly believe that every female martial artist with ANY interest in self protection should learn to be at least competent at grappling. In a rape situation an assailant is at some stage going to become VERY vulnerable to an armbar, triangle and then having his eyeballs removed!

A word of warning though - don't get carried away and Kiai

....... in that case the Jo is a better & more mobile weapon from a chair. The ability to move the chair with one hand & maintain the flow of the weapon in the other is vital.

"I would REALLY like to get ad in the ring...." Yes, that would hurt. Getting him in the leg or nose would smart also -

I've only had this once. My response was to ask the guy to step outside so that we could fight. He asked wether we should do it in the club, where there where mats, and we should warm up first and agree rules. No - I told him that in the club we train and that he was more than welcoem tom join us in that training. if he wanted to FIGHT then we would do it outside, no warm up, no rules, NOW. He declined. The watched us train, nearly **** himself when he saw what we do, and was never seen again.

......... Just wanna add that I agree with the sentiments of some of the above posts. i.e. First line defense against a knife is the same martial art that Linford Christie is master of. RUN-FU That is, of course, if you've made sure it is safe to do so. Quite often "just running" can lead to "just dying" - are you sure you can outrun your attacker? Are you fit enough? Also consider this - I witnessed a "self defence" class recently taught by a Black belt in a very popular mainstream oriental art - his advise when asked about an attaker with a knife was - "Knife defese is easy - just run". He was teaching a class of out of shape lady pensioners - 70 years old and over. Same goes for someone in a wheelchair - running is not always an option. I'm getting carried away - I'll wait for the "myths" post. (My wife says I should be carried away!)
-
Use of the knife & defence against it, both armed & unarmed, is the core of the Doce Parers Eskrima system that I teach and an important element of every Filipino Martial Art that I have experienced. This is the one area that I have seen the most BS about in martial arts. Myths abound about the use of & defence from the knife. Maybe we could discuss these myths. I warn you though - things can get pretty "heated" with topics like this. Later today I will start a thread on the Weapons forum for this subject. We will examine one "Myth" at a time - some will be easy to deal with, others may prompt more debate. Debate is good

I just got my Green Funny though - in every system I've studied Green Belt comes bedfore Blue Belt. Onward & upward

Where can I learn knife fighting in NEW York?
YODA replied to OxygenAsh's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Just noticed your sig ----- "The blade is only silent until it cuts through your flesh" Is it just me or does anyone else hear alarm bells ringing. -
I've taught weapons to quite a few chair bound people, both adult & younger, with a range of mobility levels. A Jo type staff works much better than a longer Bo - but would it be available to them in a time of need? Are we talking about teaching them on an "art for art's sake" basis or give them real self protection capabilities? A weapon can be a great equalizer for a chair bound person. Consider the chair itself as a weapon - removeable arm rests can be weilded very well & have very good striking and locking capabilities. For real life & death self protection from a chair nothing quite beats the capability to grab, entangle & then use a knife! Range is their enemy - as is the likelyhood of being tipped out of the chair - they MUST learn to fight from the floor out of the chair - not a pleasant area for most chair bound people but a reality that is just stupid to ignore. Are you thinking of teaching this area? If so I can give you some very usefull stuff. _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-03-12 13:27 ]

Hiya Hiya Sounds liek you're hyperetending to me! For strengthening the back the chin up is the king! Do them wide, narrow, palm in, palm out - variety! For lower back try hyperextentions - lie face down & lift your shoulders off the floor, slowly. Or lift one arm & one leg (r-l or l-r) do not lift both arms & both legs - too much lower back pressure.

Well here in the North West of England it's windy at the moment. What I wann know is this --- How is it that I can go on a 5 Mile run using a circular route - and have the wind blow right in my face all the way around????? IT'S NOT FAIR!!!!

2-3 months is the norm for improvement to become noticeable. I've used Glusosamine with & without Chondroitin & found it just as good on it's own.
