Hmmmm...... Sogo Bujutsu isn't really a martial art as such but more a classification or concept (where have I heard THAT before!). It refers to classical Japanese arts that have a complete outlook in their training, often including swordsmanship, unarmed methods, archery, horsemanship etc etc.

The Japanese must have big "Feets"
-
Yo KC How long did you take the glucosamine for & in what dosage?
-
Their JKD lineage & certification is via Sifu Richard Bustillo. So yes, they are properly certified.

I too prefer running for fitness, but I must say I enjoy biking more. When I say biking I mean off road biking - in fact, I much prefer off road running to road running too. After several failed products I seem to have found a bike that will stand up to the punishment I give it off road. Having snapped two frames & killed several wheels on previous bikes I have found one that will take anything I throw at it. It's butt ugly though It has a big strong frame butt a colour scheme that's a definate "yeuch!" It's a "KONA Roast" if anyone's interested in these things http://static.epinions.com/images/newworld/3750/146818-bike.jpg _________________ YODA 2nd Degree Black Belt : Doce Pares Eskrima Instructor : JKD Concepts http://www.jkdc.co.uk / http://www.docepares.co.uk [ This Message was edited by: YODA on 2002-03-08 01:46 ]

Bon - It depends on what your goal is. If you goal is the superficial one common these days i.e. Just learning to kick ass, then you can do that with NO focus on the mental side of MA. I have seen very competent physical martial artists that don't have the IQ of the average brick. Muay Thai classes are full of them - and that's no slur on MT - It's a fantastic art and I have been studying & teach it for the last 10 years. The fact is that certain arts require students to be smater than others. Almost anyone can become competent at a very physically based system - and that's one of the strengths of these systems. On the other hand, some arts will never be that popular because they require a greater degree of insight & intelect. I have lost many students in my Filipino Martial Arts classes because, to be quite honest, they were not capable of studying & learning to the degree needed for that art. I realise that the above may ruffle a few feathers - this is sometimes a good thing

finding philosophy in Gung Fu
YODA replied to mastertae's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
So your Gung Fu is deeply philosophical AND you do silly movements? -
Try it Jack - it works! I've been using this protocol in my interval training for a while now - it's good stuff!

Hi Here's the link you need http://www.mich-maa.com/home.htm

Anyone used Tabata interval training? It's based on doing 8 lots of 20 seconds work with 10 seconds rest between - here's a link... http://www.cbass.com/interval.htm

Vitor would have kicked his ass.
-
Agreed - this was a pre-meditated assault, and was WRONG. It would have been just as wrong if she'd done it to him!

Biking is great but as with anything there are pitfalls. Because your pedal stroke doesn't quite lock out your leg it can lead to shortening of the hamstrings - make sure you stretch them before & after your biking workout.

Hey Blade - why does the victim's gender have any relevance? If you where attacked by a woman, would you not defend yourself? Hitting someone is either right or wrong - gender has nothing to do with it.
-
Hmmmm..... a few things to try. 1. Are you landing on your toes instead of your heel? i.e. using sprinting style in slow running? 2. Have you tried running last thing at night instead of first thing in the morning? Has similar effects on your metabolism etc - may work for you.
-
LOL! Psycospaz - surely you're nice to people because it's the right thing to do? Not just a habit? One definition of a neurosis is doing something habitually without thought for it's justification

"I disagree shoulders telegraph everything - you can't ...do anything without moving your shoulders first." -- Nope, not so, neagative, now way Jose, just ain't so Non telegraphic action is a fumdemental part of JKD - ever head of the hammer principle in relation to punching? Get's your punch half way there without moving the shoulders first. Savate guys are VERY good at kicking with NO detectable upper body telegraphing.
-
Yo Steve Welcome to the jungle
-
.....Yes. You should quit ANYTHING that you only do out of habit

About 1994 (if memory serves me right) I was doing a Filipino martial Arts demo in front of about 500 people. At one point I had a guy come at me wearing as much protective gear as we could get on him - motorcycle helmet, padded up to the eyeballs. He had a BIG stick and I had a light rattan one. The idea was for him to come at me full power at whatever angle he wanted to and as fast & furious as he could. I would defend & put in my counter strikes full contact on him heavily armourd head & body. All went well until about his 4th attack - it was a diagonall backhand (what we call angle 2) - I misjudged my block slightly and took the rebound of my stick right across the nose, splitting it in quite an impressive manner - the thing was, I only realised what had happened at the end of the demo when I wondered what all the shocked faces where about & happened to glance down to see the rather impressive red stripe down the front of my white T-Shirt. Adrenaline is indeed a powerful pain killer - LOL!
