"Just go train, geez fellas while you guys are debating Bruce would be training. No one will ever control JKD and those who wish to learn and expand it for their on needs. It is the way it was and is meant to be. I have only trained in JKD/Wing Chun concepts and to be honest mine is the best version, not that ya'lls isnt great but mine is what works for me, that makes it the best for ME, I believe thats what Mr. Lee wanted, he will show you his path but one day you must choose your own way." -Even Sifu Lee had to rest some times, and he trained his mind as well as his body...and if ye followed your own words, you wouldn't be visiting these wonderful forums, now would you? Yours is the best version? Doesn't bother me, I'm just a fan of the philosophy...but I'm sure that there are are few Wing Chun and JKD instructors that would beg to differ with you... "Does JKD not have an advantage over other martial arts then?" -I guess that all depends on your instructor(s) and how hard you train. Keeping in mind what is outlined in JKD IMO is beneficial. "JKD does not have blets as such, they have phase 1 and 2 right? " -I don't remember where I read this, but I recall JKD having 8 rankings, the highest being reserved for Lee. This is just how Lee ranked however, so it might not be applicable in modern JKD schools.

Not a problem with the instruction...my sensei will be covering that eventually, and I'll find what information I can.

Jeet Kune Do JKD is more of a martial philosophy, with a base within. It's concepts were taken from fencing, Wing Chun, and other arts, and the philosophy was greatly impacted by Lee's own personal views. I'm personally more interested in the philosophy of JKD, for the technique and application of it is just too controversial. Some say Inosanto is wrong for teaching JKD differently than Sifu Lee did. Others say that teaching it only as it was is an outrage. I think that's what Lee wanted to avoid in the first place, he must have seen it coming...*shrugs*

Never heard of that one...but I think that new UFC based show airs tonight Hopefully it's on late, or I'll miss it (being at the dojo).

How much is a good pair of sais? I can't find any for over 40 bucks...I'm willing to pay more if I can find something of better quality.

I can't offer any advice from a scientific standpoint, but I do find that after meditating (no matter how I do it) my reflexes are honed, and my body is looser and better rested. For best results I try to keep my Hara and the rest of my body aligned, either in cross legged postion, seiza, or even laying down.

Proper Etiquette?
GhostlySykanRyu replied to Kieran-Lilith's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well there appears to be a communication problem there. Just politely ask your Sensei (preferrably off of the mat and before the training session) to go over proper etiquette, or have a sempai explain it if he is too busy. -
Things to avoid doing in a Dojo
GhostlySykanRyu replied to elliotspirrett's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
"Fail to look as though a technique is hurting you when doing partner work. This guarantees that the instructor will come up to show them how to do it, using you as the dummy. " Something similar happened to me. He used me as a test dummy, one of the green belts was to get me in mount, then interlock our legs to apply pressure to my knees. It wasn't successful, so he had a black belt apply the technique on me. It was a better attempt, but since I had seen the technique already, I knew that I just had to keep my legs too ridgid for him to move them. He had a lot of leverage, but still no dice. A few minutes later (and one very sweaty black belt), I was still laying there. That left only one person that could apply the technique...he did, and with a cross choke to boot LOL, 'twas fun to say the least. -

Anyone here have information on this system? What I've found is rather sparse. I know it's based on the Danzan Ryu system and was created by shihan(or at least was shihan at the time) William Snyder. I'll be raining in this system after Christmas

Taking all of these in their prime? White Warlock-Lee actually took part in the rooftop brawls, and was in plenty of fights in his much younger days. Of course this was before his peak... Jet Li-I'm not that impressed. Flashy dancing and special effects. Not a bad actor though. Chan-not even a martial artist, he said so himself. He learned kung fu techniques for the movies alone. Great stuntman however. Norris-seems pretty skilled, and in his prime Lee still had a thing or two to teach him. Lee-A martial artist first and an actor second. He helped bring the martial arts into the mainstream, and put out some amazing philosophy and technique(if you want to call it that).

Yes, I'd advise that you keep them moving and ready, but not to the point of soreness...

What's your opinion
GhostlySykanRyu replied to scottnshelly's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I see nothing wrong with using techniques from many styles (obviously) , so long that they work well for the person using them. As for instructors teaching in that manner, that's really not for me to say. -
Depends how you're grouping them and what methods you are using. Push-ups is general build some strength and are good for stamina, and I'm sure they improve muscle memory to a point. Knuckle push-ups strengthen the knuckles and wrist, and help you keep it aligned when punching. If done on a hard and/or rough surface, calouses will likely build up in time. Fingertip push-ups will stengthen the hands and fingers. Triangle push-ups will target the triceps more than the chest. Wider push-ups will target the chest more than the triceps. Push-ups on the backs of the hands will strengthen the joints and wrists. Clapping push-ups have a more dynamic motion and take more effort, thus they are more similar to a striking motion. And so on.. Basically, they have plenty of advantages if done correctly.

Well first off, is it arm length alone that's giving him the advantage? -
Who called you a liar? Most of us just stated that you were endangering yourself...

Well, if it's a sharp pain that only comes up during certain movements, I'd guess that it's a pinched nerve...they just need to run their course. With the information given, I couldn't venture another guess.
