what's wrong with power through anger? I would imagine jesus was upset when he chased the money changers from the temple. I would imagine soldiers were upset when they were in battle but had Him on their side. There is no commandment that states not to get angry, and if I'm not mistaken, nowhere in the bible does it tell you to not get angry. Anger is a natural emotion. What's important is what you do with that emotion. anger and hate are drastically different. I would say there's nothing inherently wrong with anger at evil, but it's so hard to stay angry and simultaneously objective. Anger rapidly disolves into uncontrolled rage. Wasn't there something about, "Do not let the sun go down on your anger..."?

Class attendance

That is sooooooooooo awesome. I don't get my picture...it's sad. My guess is because by the time everything's set up, I'll be gone (I leave for school in a month). Either that, or he just assumes I'll be there, since I teach for like 20 hours a week, and I never miss a class. -
You'll feel them if you do sword drills for an hour...

haha...I just had a funny mental image of me grappling with my two favorite weapons - the broadsword and the spear. That'd be awkward...

We actually just got this new-fangled computer card-scanning system that tallies how frequently your students come, and when. It's totally rad. -
Private Lesson Students' Pace
parkerlineage replied to scottnshelly's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I believe that students' learning can be accelerated by a ridiculous amount with private lessons in conjunction with classes. At least in my style, one will not perform techniques on a body nearly as well without groups lessons - there's no reason to adapt! Also, there's less thought-pooling - I say that generally, of course. If your system is only kata, then perhaps they will learn faster. And I say weapons come along much faster in private lessons. But not techniques, and definetely not sparring. -
Best striking point

Actually, yes. If you're holding a knife. -
Also known as freerunning, I believe, it mostly involves trespassing and doing rad things on people's buildings, ie. jumping off of roofs, from roof to roof, scaling walls, doing cool things like kicking off one wall then bounching off another, and then landing on the roof (my claim to fame move)...it's really fun, and good for MA.

The distance across all four knuckles, or just one? 'cause across all four is...(measures)...about 3 1/2 inches, for me.

Good luck! In which style is it? BTW, my Hebrew isn't what it once was, and that isn't much, but what is the translation of what you have listed under your style? I know the second word is "God", right? And is there something to do with listening in the first word? -

Yeah, he's totally psyching you out. Granted, it's good to try to overcome things, but if he isn't normally that way, he's psyching you out. I would say don't let it get to you, but a) that's not possible, and b) you should, a little bit. When you test, give it 200%. I'm guessing your sensei wouldn't say/do/make you do things unless he knew you could take it. -
lol yeah...might have to think of something different then, or just go for the shoulder wheel and then take her home cos she'll be so impressed by how ninja i am. "So, how did you two meet?" You sitta ona my legs-a, I break-a your nose-a and your collarbone-a and possibly give-a you brain-a damage-a.

I believe God created air, and I certainly believe it's good...and I find it almost amusing that you use the air argument, because that's what we Christians use to argue the existence of God. Interesting. Thank you all for the good posts, and for not yelling at me. I can understand the arguments about it just being an extreme case of focus - perhaps we westerners just don't have a word for that. Yeah, me, too. Wow...that makes a crazy amount of sense to me. Thank you. I agree. Thank you all, and keep it coming!

Man, I'm sorry that happened. Any permanent or longer than temporary damage done? Simultaneous kicks almost always = bad news.

And your instructor may also be trying to intimidate you and add to your nerves about testing - mine did for my junior and regular black belt tests.
