Grant money for college MA clubs?
parkerlineage replied to parkerlineage's topic in Instructors and School Owners
Hm. Okay. I don't doubt that I can generate the amount of necessary power, or have a tight enough fist, we just don't do breaking in my system. Our founder actually worked with Bruce Lee before Lee was famous, and very much liked Lee's philosophy that "bricks don't hit back." No sense in learning to fight them if it's a non-issue. Yeah, I know, body training, etc. I'm just sharing our founder's views. -

I like that idea, too. I may look into it. This is what I'm currently leaning toward, though I'd like to have pads, or something they can hit... Mats are for sissies. I'm hoping I could pull something like this, too. That really is a good idea. Too bad I don't know how to break boards. Definetely. -
haha...that's okay - I'm 18, and I only recognize a handfull of those. But I'll retaliate with my unknowns - Relient K (probably know them), Hawk Nelson, FM Static, Eleventy Seven, Stellar Kart...

I admire you for sticking to it. Keep it up!

Oh my goodness, this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I want in. Dragon-climbs-pillar to standing position, then step back into low half-squat hung gar stance, holding nose with left crane strike while extending your right hand in an outward palm, as if to say, "It wasn't me!" PS. I'm going to videotape myself performing this kata, someday... PPS. Never mind, I can't understand all you peoples' fancy Japanese...

Why is the spear called the king of weapons?
parkerlineage replied to parkerlineage's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
In my limited dao vs spear engagements - none of which were freestyle, but some of which were me just making stuff up as the spear user threw random attacks - I found that if I could just get far enough past the point to check the wood away or grab it, it was over. But you have to be lighting fast, and stay higher than their arm (not in the air - I mean your weapon. Duh). It was almost easy, using two dao. -
What's your weapon of choice for a 2 on 2? A 2 on 1 as one of the two? A 2 on 1 as the one? We've done this open hand before, and I certainly learned a lot. In my experience, being long armed and legged, and rather fast, I spent my time in the front, darting back and forth to keep the other team at bay while my friend singled one out, then we'd double team for a second after I fought off one of them (if that makes sense). As the one, I actually fared rather well, using a lot more acrobatic maneuvers (effectively) than usual, and waaaaaaay more than anybody else in my class used. What was your experience like?

I think the flexing may deter, but other than that, I'm going to give it a try first thing! Thanks for the idea. -
I listen to Christian power (pop) punk while I work out. I'm sure that's a popular genre...

I've posted the American Kenpo version somewhere else, but it sounds like you wanted to learn the Japanese words. In terms of requirements, as New Beginner said, it varies in style - ours is mostly political and time oriented.

When you think you give 100%....until....

Congratulations, Kez!! We knew you'd pull through! -
I really really really hate this video. The kyokushin guys are awful, the drunken boxing guys just kicking bags, and they just stop the fights randomly!! As far as I know, the idea behind drunken boxing is to be loose and deceptive. When I fight, I try to follow this principle - sometimes weaving back and forth or appearing off balance can be very effective into luring your opponent into something, or disguising your own intent. As for why kung fu guys never attack - I don't know. Haven't watched enough videos is my guess.

Wow. I'm very impressed. That makes a lot of sense to me... I only know of three nicknamed weapons: Spear - King Broadsword - Marshall Bo - Father or Grandfather The last one I understand. And your idea sheds quite a bit of light from an oblique angle on the other two....thanks! -
It doesn't make sense to me!! I mean, I like the spear, and it's cool, and very effective, but I don't see how it's way better than, say, a broadsword (marshall of weapons, I believe), or butterfly knives (garbage man of weapons), etc. Does this have some sort of traditional reasoning behind it?

If I took off my shirt, it'd have sort of a flash-bang effect, minus the concussion - pretty much just blinding whiteness. Which is why I always wear a shirt under my gi.

I'd feel bad asking. If he offers to give me stuff, I'll take it, but otherwise... Hm...I shall look into that...thank you. -
Must've been hybrid, then. I'm thinking about adding Wushu forms to my dojo, when I have it, 'cause I agree with the whole Jello thing. Plus, if one can incorporate the speed of Kenpo, power of Hardstyles, and flexibility and agility of Wushu...it's quite effective for fighting.

The couple people we've had visit from other styles wear their black belts, but stand at the end. My instructor really doesn't care where they stand - he says it's just a line, after all. It really does irk me, though, that we have two other guys who are black belts in a different system than ours that refuse to do group lessons. They both train only in private lessons, and wear their black belts. That screams arrogant, to me.

I can almost guarantee you that you won't notice feeling sick during your test. I did my entire black belt test with a moderately sprained ankle, and never noticed it (until it was over. Then it hurt.). -
Not a problem - I think it's cool, anyway.

Well, you must live in a containment lab and tie your belt with rubber gloves, very carefully. That's actually kinda strange...
