Earlier in this thread IADO was mentioned. Its is a sword art but in its entirety it is the art of drawing your sword cutting in onw movement and then shaking off the blood and resheathing your sword all with complete fluidity.

Do you ever wish that you could go back in time to ancient China and train there. Back when there were no guns and the masters were so very distinguished. Do you ever wish that you could be a true Ninja?!?!

I've never heard Of BIGROKIDO are you sure that this is a real martial art?

I don't feel the need to watch the movie. It is very disrespectful to martial arts. -
Is it actual JKD?
Joecooke007 replied to The JKD Kid's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
ok from what I've heard JKD is a basic martial art that incorporates your emotions to make you a better fighter. Right??? -
I like the bo because it is effective from long range and it can compete against the sword if used properly. My other weapon of choice is the whip chain. It can also compete with swords and is effective from long range. _________________ Joe Cooke Goju Ryu Practitioner [ This Message was edited by: Joecooke007 on 2002-03-03 13:01 ]

Which Martial Art is the most effective?
Joecooke007 replied to TKDGirl's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
First of all, (not to sound mean or anything) can this thread be moved to the Ganeral martial arts and karate disscusion. I feel that more people would benifit from it being there. Now, TKD is a very linear sport. the strikes are very effective. The thing is you can only use spinning kicks from a longer range. Once you are fighting very closely kicks are very easy to cut off at the source. This Hosinsul that KickChick described sounded like the perfect variation. If you are too close to get off kicks you might need to grapple. -
Kicking or punching someone is only considered bad when you initiate the attack. If they try to hit you you are allowed to use as much force as nessecary to overcome your opponent. If you use excess force you are again outside of the law and you are no longer a true practitioner of the martial arts. A true martial artist only uses the absoulute minimum when defending himself/herself. You do not need to prove to your opponent that you are lethal only that they should not mess with you.

KarateForums.com is TRULY Worldwide.
Joecooke007 replied to Patrick's topic in KarateForums.com Announcements
That is very cool. I'll be interested to see how many places Karate Forums will be in in one year. -
Dos anyone practice ninjutsu or the asssasin's art? I hhave heard that it is very effective and builds you so that you can accomplish amazing physical feats.
-
Soes anybody here practice whip chains? tHey look like a very effective weapon for grappling and scarring skin.

Hey let's not turn this into ANOTHER belt discussion!! :spitlaugh:
-
A belt seems iffy. If you took it off chances are your pants would fall down and then who would be in trouble?
-
jello bed... Sweet!!!! I would definitely go for that! Or a water bed with fish in it!

Just how light and how durable are these swords? How do you test them for durability? I've been looking for a worthy katana for some time now.

What happened last night in Taekwondo
Joecooke007 replied to Jack's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I can't believe that you sensei would do that to a person. -
Fighting all depends. You have to tell them to go away or stop and then only if they touch you first should you use your martial arts. And only use them to the extent that theyu are needed. In Massachusetts you get 3-5 for involuntary mansluaghter.

I myself have not taken the art but my great great grandfather did.
-
I think that I already said this but I study Goju Ryu under Shihan Cormier. In our school it takes about 8 years to gain black belt. My sensei is a shihan and is in the hall of fame with the instructor of the year award. Does anyone else here practice combonations called Bu-kens?

Waterbeds are pretty cool. What I wanna know is how the water bed sprung a leak that let out so much water. What the heck does that weigh!?!?

black belts

Interesting. While I read this board it seems like that average year to get BB is 4 1/2 years. I myself practice karate and in our school it usually takes around 8 years to earn BB.
