  1. Allright a JKD forum!!! This is gonna be great! Thanks Patrick!
  2. I recently read an article in Martial Arts and Combat Sports about small circle Jiu Jitsu and I was wondering if anyone here practiced this art. If so What are its ups and downs?
  3. Weapons sparring sounds dangerous and that's why I love it. You have to be very careful though. I know people that have almost been killed and their friends were brought up on charges so if you are considering weapons sparring be careful and don't die!
  4. Eye of the Tiger!!! I don't know the name of this one but it's good here are some lyrics. :We're form the school, the school of hard knocks are you ready to rock? Ready to rock! Are you ready to rock? Ready to rock!! Or that song Bust-a-move! Those are my suggestions.
  5. I'm still waiting for that second part about the snake.
  6. Anonynousone, You don't need to learn something and have to apply it to fights. Some things are just for leisure. To do a front flip use your upper body weight to pull you through the circle. making sure that you get full rotation (front flips are easier to learn) To do a backflip use your leg's momentum to pull you around. (the only reason that learning a backflip is harder is becasue of a fear factor that is invovled.
  7. O.k. thank you all for your input!
  8. I am indeed a warrior!
  9. I myself would love to train in this particular style. The bamboo stick will teach you better discipline while conditioning your body.
  10. In my class our rules are much more strict. You disrespect sensei you are out of the class for the day. the next time it's two classes. And so on. Respect is key in ma classes.
  11. I think that the student should not be allowed to spar if they have aids. If there was an accident and blood was drawn there could be serious consequences.
  12. o.k. First of all. I don't want to sound like a nerd but I heard that you can't put pictures in you signatures. Second, in my school you will not receive a belt without respect. If you know techniques way beyond your class you will not receive a belt without showing respect. I think that respect should be based on rank, cause they earned it.
  13. Yes they have given ggod help that I have used to my benefit.
  14. Will power. hhhmmmmmmmmm. It's something that I deal with every day. I'm not exactly your middle weight category. I'm on the heavy side. I diet and workout. but sometimes I find myself trying to cheat the diet. When I do I just think of how much of a loser thing that is to do and I try to show myself that I don't need to cheat.
  15. Phantasmic, Please be careful with that hat. WE all know that it's a cowboy hat. Go to the pictures disscussino in the introductions forums and read to find out why. I practice okinawan arts and my style's name literally translates into hard soft so you really can't classify one region's maritial arts as hard or soft.
  16. Whoa!!! That sounds intense. Very hard indeed!!
  17. This is very interesting. You are indeed a wise person.
  18. This is very interesting... It is very true. You should not allow yourself to become to compelled to do thing that they might overcome you.
  19. I'm going for my karate grading in about a week.
  20. Tae kwon do. I believe that it started out as an extremely effective art with strong kicks and horse back riding. That was a long long time ago in a galaxy far away. Now it's evolved into more of a sport art. It would be nice if all of the "arts" went back to the exact same way that they used to be.
  21. I'm currently studying Goju Ryu karate do but my sensei is also very much qualified to teach ju jutsu. It's Hakkoryu ju jutsu if you know anything about it tell me. I'm trying to decide whether or not I should take it. _________________ Joe Cooke Goju Ryu Practitioner [ This Message was edited by: Joecooke007 on 2002-01-27 05:50 ]
  22. If you're fourteen you should be fine. Doctors and magazines are just worried about kids trying it and getting hurt.
  23. O.k. the KEY word here is might.
  24. Gorgoth, welcome to the forums. I myself have never heard of paper tent gung fu can you explain a little? From this post I can tell that you are a very knowledgeable man. I look forward to sharing viewpoints with you.
  25. Right... I really don't use my hips for footwork the main reason that I love my hips is that they can help you put so much power into your strikes by turning them.
