Also the more unorthdox kicks, like in Systema. Bit riskier, but nothing will surprise him more than getting hit by the dreaded Russian Podkrut LOL.

Low line kicks, non chambered, heel usually the striking area. Like in wing chun or CQC. Always works for me

A different perspective - in a street fight, attacking which area of your attacker's body will be the most effective for finishing the fight? It's the head and neck. You could argue for other targets, but which wins more boxing matches? The head. So logically, your most accesible weapons for attacking the head and neck are your hand in any way, forearms, elbows, and head butts. Again you could argue for striking the head with the knees, or the feet, but the most useable strikes are the ones I pointed out above. You could also argue for grappling, but think about this - a solid strike to the head will be a fraction of a second long, whereas a choke or an armlock may be a second or two longer. But in a streetfight, every millisecond counts. So for speed, accesiblity and stopping power, it has to be hand, arm and head strikes to the opponent's head and neck.

To everyone in the UK...

Natural there's no plan yet to where it'll be. It's step 1, just getting people interested. Ask around in your class please, it'd be a great help. -
Does anyone know what wing chun guys are like if you try to sweep them?

If your balance and looseness is good enough, you could simply go with it and use the energy to snap a kick into his groin.

MartialArm vs. Muk Jong
cymry replied to Sho-ju's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
Hey guys, is there anywhere on martialarm.com that actually sells the thing?! I can't find anything, and their link to karatedepot.com is useless too. They don't have any there either! Any help would be much appreciated. -

Anyone know of a website that actually sells the Martialarm? -
Does anyone know what an "intra-articular pathology" is?

I have recently found out that my past karate training has caused severe damage to my right elbow joint. Even with slow relaxed extension there is a loud, almost crunching sound. My Wing Chun sifu is currently trying to find traditional treatment for my problem, and I am going to have it checked out by a speacialist doctor. The warning is - make sure your teacher knows of the dangers inherent in studying martial arts and recognises problems when they start. Incompetent teachers will get you hurt. If worst comes to worst, I will have bad arthritis in my elbow for the rest of my life. I'm only fourteen years old as it is!

Center Line in Karate
cymry replied to Sho-ju's topic in Kung Fu, JKD, Wing Chun, Tai Chi, and Chinese Martial Arts
The rising block in karate is "deflecting" (perhaps not an appropriate word for karate blocks LOL) an attack outwards, away from the centerline. BTW, the dan tien is called the hara in Japanese. -

I'm looking for a Silat school around the North East Wales/Manchester area. I could do with Dublin Ireland as well. Anyone?

cymry replied to TJS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Correct me if I'm wrong, but grappling is more difficult positions-wise, whereas striking involves more complex physics to be effective, so neither one is easier. That said, there is only so much you can learn from books. Probably more with videos, but you still need a good instructor. -

Hey KoreanDude, what is the website talking about? I translated it but it came out as this: -

He fought 60 guys by himself? -
Know what I mean. They say 'have no way as way', when they have to begin by learning techniques and concepts of many different arts. Too many arts chasing to many brain cells. BTW, this is not in any way meant to be a burn post. JKD has the right philosophy, just perhaps the wrong approach. Any thoughts?

Kung Fu Legends

I think it's because the Chinese are very nostalgic, so the styles with the most flowery histories would be the most credible to them.
