  1. Make sure it gives a little If I'm not mistaken, if there's no give then all the shock will go straight back up your arm. Keep doing it and you'll damage your joints etc
  2. I'm targeting boxers in this post. And I'm assuming you're not bare-knuckled full contact are you Cross? If you wanna talk about Karate or something, send me a private message. I would be interested in knowing more about your style.
  3. I am a 1st Dan in Shotokan. I know the basics of my art. Could someone please explain how the belt icons under the username work? Is it how many posts you've made?
  4. Well it's ful pay in a boxing match. Like I said there's very little padding on th bottom of the glove so they're very punishing shots. Hit to the soft area underneath the floating ribs. It'll at least make you feel nauseous and not want to fight.
  5. Anyone got any? By dirty tricks I mean some that would be considered foul play in a boxing match (unless you can conceal it ) but fair game in a streetfight. I have a few: Hammer - A hook punch but striking with a hammerfist. Just twist your arm 90 degrees and pivot itso when you make contact your forearm is vertical. (Look at a pair of 16oz boxing gloves. Look how much padding there is on the bottom of the fist compared to the knuckles.) Louisville Slugger - If you miss a hook to the head, immediately bring your forearm back into your opponent's jaw before following up with a standard tecnique (if they are a trained boxer chances are they will move straight back forward after dodging back, straight into your arm). I just remembered I'm stealing these off someone else. Go to trsdirect.com and check out Mark Hatmaker's Illegal Boxing. Ignore the outrageous ad, it's a good video.
  6. One name comes to mind - Geoff Thompson.
  7. No, I mean I've tried them in training and it's really caught my training buddies offguard.
  8. Have any of you guys bought videos from this company? I made my first purchase with them a couple weeks ago - what I've seen impresses me. The moves are pretty simple and quick to learn, but they really work. If you can make any comments about their videos, especially the new Larry Wick set, please do so.
  9. Go to iainabernethy.com This guy kicks * with kata interpretations. Hes also published a few books - Karate's Grappling Methods, BunkaiJutsu (I own this it's great) and Throws for Strikers: The Forgotten Throws of Karate and Boxing.
  10. In my dojo, it's usually only 1st kyus and dan grades who do breaking. Unless you're an adult, which in tht case you'll get to doit at quite low grades. BTW, we usually only use breaking blocks.
  11. Loren Christensen has som good exercises in his book Speed Training. One example is to have two people standing at 11 o' clock and 1 o' clock. You have to keep aware of each guy. Then one of them does something and you snap out a technique. I'm not sure if that's how he did it, but you get the idea. Buy the book!
  12. You could do some conditioning exercises
  13. I don't think it's a kick to the groin. I'm not sure what your application is, but mine would be attacker in front of you, forearm strike to the face, then grab opponent (doesn't matter much where, both shoulders or shoulder and opposite side), kick to the inside of the knee causing a break or the opponent to buckle at least, then throw to the side (if they fall ove your leg great!) IMHO, at least
