  4. With a push you always have the option to walk away. If its a matter of you falling, then a good break fall.
  5. Welcome to the forums
  6. Are you looking for more of a cardio / aerobic workout drills, or focus drills to help your strikes?
  7. What style do you do? I'm guessing a soft style?

  9. That was tough! I picked kata cause that is what first drew me too the martial arts. But I truly love all aspects.
  10. Wow --- and I thought I was going to get flamed for calling it a karate-cult. That is what it looks like to me! Honestly, I kinda wish I had the time and nothing better to do -- it would make for a great under-cover expose! But I'm not journalist either. Cut off from the world for a year --- I don't think so! How many people send in $10 only to get rejected, or asked for more money or no reply at all --- scam-a-licous.
  11. I also had to do 100 pushups for my bb test. Don't know how I managed to pull that one off --- and that was less than 30 seconds after the 5 mile run --- just enough time to get the shoes and socks off and drop! I'm pretty sure some of them where sloppy The worst was my knuckles kept slipping cause of the sweat. ugh
  12. I'm not going to comment on the age of blackbelts ---at least, not yet. I wanted to comment on the section about you receiving your blackbelt in 10 years and still not feeling like you mastered the art. Remember...I black belt is the beginning and not the end. A black belt to a karateka should mean that you have a solid foundation of the basics. I got my black belt at 24 in a little under 5 years. I would have gotten it from 3-4 but sometimes being in the military interupted my training. Do I feel like I've mastered the art --- course not!
  13. Welcome Books are no good 'cept for reinforcing what you are learning with a live instructor in person (not video!)
  14. Century is good stuff -- I think there is another thread around here with opinions on century
  15. WSKF is a new circuit....the NBL split up and 6-8 formed the WSKF or World Sport Karate Federation under Richard Plowden. The best I can describe them or at least their intentions is not as strict as the NBL but not as lenient as NASKA. This is their first year so expect some complications, but I know they've been meeting for a while now to work out all the kinks, so things should run fairly well. I want to Amerikick but I probably won't make it. I will definately be at: AKA Grand Nationals Chicago - Mar BlueGrass -Louisville, KY- June Tornado Kansas City, MO- not sure when this is And if our team gets funds we have about 5 more we'd like to hit!
  16. welcome

  20. In the military we have to go past 90 degrees A spotter lays on the ground and puts there fist on the ground --- your sternum has to touch there fist --- otherwise they say "doesn't count" yowsers
  21. Cool --- congrats!!!
