  1. Do you need to be in a street fight to be an accepted martial artist? That guy was Chat I believe and his kick power was incredibily high! I don't think it showed what it took to win, if anything I think it under represented Sport MA. They made that Matt guy seem like a washed up has been --- but yet the documentary followed him...what's up with that. I don't get it. I've checked Craig's stats...the kid seems good, but they made him out to be some prodigy. To LG: I didn't like wearing the cage, I hope I like the face shield better but I already know I wont if you say it is hard to breath Relkats: Do you compete?
  2. Its not a hockey helmet its a clear face shield They are the newest line in face protection, replacing the old caged looking ones. The cage restricts your vision, this is clear and supposedly designed so they don't fog up. I'm ordering one so I can spar until my broken nose fully heals. Maybe good to have though....rumor is some of the national circuits are thinking about making them mandatory. There would be major disputes over such a rule....but many of bloodied noses are being reported from the supergrands (and they are only in day 5 of 6)
  3. Yep, and he also has his own line of kamas...his full name is Mike Chauterbaut (sp?)
  4. Best Line: FLASH IS TRASH without BASICS Guys - Mike Chat is a 7 time world champion, sports martial arts is just another enitity of what he does. I'm only begining to understand it myself --- I used to despise any type of sport MA but I think it has its place. Will it win in a street fight? no. And I think (hope) most of them realize that....remember, this is SPORT MA. But they do real training aside from the sports stuff...its just the Xtreme stuff is what gets the attention. Yeah --- I tripped out over the techno pants at the bluegrass too --- but in the open divisions its no longer about what you wear (or dont wear). I am still a traditionalist at heart and only compete in trad. divisions wearing a white gi. But I've seen cammo gi, hyrogliphics(sp), jersey tops), topless guys with paint on their chest. Like the guy said: FLASH IS TRASH without BASICS. You can dress like a ballerina for all I care....but can you do the moves?
  5. Again, not sure what you were expecting given the founder hehe. Sorry you guys are disappointed --- so far I give it a C.....some is good, some is well....not. But I think I had different expectations than you so I'm not as disappointed.
  6. OK they are talking about the bo -- wonders if they will show Casey Marks? Looking for myself --- I was in the crowds of some of those BlueGrass clips!
  7. What did you expect? I mean it is called XMA --- founder of XMA = Mike Chat ---- I kinda saw that one coming ... you see his site: http://www.xmarevolution.com That Craig Henesen kid is doing pretty well I guess --- he is at the top of his division from what I can follow on the ratings -- looks like NBL Yeah that comment about getting hit in the face was weak!!! sheesh!
  8. OK not crazy it was a team CJB gi --- there were US OPen clips...I saw team straight up, daniel sterling and of course casey marks
  9. its 18 min in and I just tuned in so I missed that part----I came in on Tom Cruise talking about kata...no comment yet I thought I saw a glimpse of a team CJB gi --- guess we will see (CJB is a team on the NASKA circuit)
  10. BUMP This comes on the discovery hour in ONE HOUR from the time stamp on this post (discovery channel) Thats 9pm Eastern 8pm Central
  11. SS, Thats a good practice not to award a BB to anyone that doesn't have the ability to teach..unfortunately I don't think too many people follow it...even the orgs I am in. I mean if Black belts are going to be called 'Sensei'...and Sensei means teacher, then I ya think they should be able to teach!!!!
  12. heavy weight all the way!
  13. Thanks for the advice....I'll try local
  14. Here is a clip of someone doing Seiunchin at the Gator Nationals. If you are going to watch it more than once download it so you don't kill the server bandwidth---plus this site switches videos frequently and this one is near the bottom of the list so it may not be there in a week: http://www.sportmartialarts.com/Videos/GatorNatls03_02_CostalesNicoleTradForm.mpg Here is the isshinRyu version (still pics) http://www.isshinryu.com/seiuchin1.htm Hope this helps! 15. Hey guys, We are putting together a national team and one of the things we would like is team T-Shirts and warm-ups For warmups I'm looking for 2 pc --- something like a nylon shell, probably lined, zip up type --- hood optional I see stuff like this at foot locker all the time ---- anywhere cheaper that specializes in teams? We'd order at least 10 so hopefully somewhere that can offer us a discount for that. Oh, and being able to custom embroider our team name is bonus.
  16. Shureido is very high quality! That gets my vote
  17. Anyone do the deep fried turkey? I wanna try that one day! We forgot the cranberry sauce til we were halfway done eating --- doh!
  18. OK --- what'd everybody have yesterday? I was invited out with a co-worker and his family...we had: Turkey, stuffing, ham, mac&cheese, yams, salad, blackeyed peas, ham, greens, pumpkin and sweet potatoe pies, bananna pudding, and apple pies Time for seconds!
  19. ditto! Don't let people put your abilities in a box cause of your gender What drew you to MT anyway?
  20. Isn't a side snap kick done with the side/heel of the foot...not the bottom?
  21. I never heard of it --- at first I thought you were talking about an inverted front kick...but with that you end up striking with the top of the foot (instep) , not the bottom as you mentioned
  22. when are you planning on picking a school? how is the research going?
