Doesn't matter --- too far off topic now anyway! For the record - I don't use Google Toolbar! I do agree that Google is one of the greatest if not the greatest search engines out there - spy/ad ware of not --- like I said....thats what Adaware and such are for!

Cool deal! What style is he doing? I forgot if you mentioned it already -
True the spyware doesn't do that stuff by default BUT it DOES update automatically and thats a security risk - it essentially has access to your HD everytime you connect to google (for me that is many many times a day!) - ie no toolbar here!

That Annoying mosquito!!!!

Sounds like you need to work on your speed. Counter speed with speed! As far as him running around the ring....cut him off. Work your change step so you can easy change your gaurd. Control the center of the ring...keep him in the corner with roundouse kicks -
Welcome! Music --- mostly gospel and some jazz

DOH! I knew I forgot something! Actually I didn't watch all of the animatrix --- I meant to when they first came online but I kept forgetting -
Still no 360 --- about a 285 still I broke it down tonight and figured out what I was doing wrong....I was trying to kick, jump and spin all at the same time. Cresent first...then jump up, not forward (other mistake) --- then tuck -- wasn't doing that....then land. I'll be working it, and you'll all know when I nail it!

Kusanku --- elagant yet powerful. Takes some endurance to do all the up/down movement. Can really show off kicks, nice 180 crescent and jump front.

I never saw the guys getting kicked -- I doubt my instructor would have done that too the girls. He does test the tensioin by kicking the legs, punching the stomach, hitting on the arms --- this is to all the brown and black belts (not the blue belts that are just learning) --- I didn't mind that though -- the worst was the resistance Like during the slow punches when you are supposed to be so grounded, he would put his hand in front of the punch and we had to do the move...ie move his hand....BUT --- when he took it away if you fell forward or your hand lurched forward you were wrong. THAT was the hard part!

Here are some shots of IsshinRyu seiunchin: http://www.isshinryu.com/seiuchin1.htm I also may get a chance to go to Okinawa at some point --- there is an Air Base out there. A group from my old school went out there in Aug --- I couldnt make it as that was the month I was taking my BB test.

Couple things Are you kicking with your heel or bottom part of your foot? We kick with the flat of the foot when sparring, and heel for the heavy bags....the heel will generate some POWER and kicking with the flat of the foot you leg is more relaxed and your kick will be FASTER. As far as power goes --- its not from swinging the leg....in fact, hook is kinda a misnomer --- this part is going to be hard to describe but I'll do this best I can: When you lift your leg to throw the kick....turn your bottom foot (not toes...that does nothing) --- push your HEEL to the front (in other words the foot that is still on the ground, that heel should be facing front. Get your KNEE UP...it should be pointed 45 degrees and look like the same chamber as if you are going to do a roundhouse kick No need to swing your leg thru --- the extended leg needs to only pull through about a half of a foot (think one side of the face to the other --- blam!) NOW THE KEY!!! As you are kicking -- PULL YOUR HIP THRU!!!! As the leg kicks across the target and you are getting ready to retract the lower part of the leg (from knee to foot) --- they upper part of that leg needs to follow thru. YOUR POWER IS IN THE HIPS! That is why I say turn the bottom foot -- it grounds you .... and pull your hip through. OK -- way to long...sorry. Hope it helps

The "Karate wars" and inter-dojo challenges.
stl_karateka replied to Bdaze's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
What what WHAT!!! That's just ka-Razy!!! --------------- We have 'rival schools' --- we settle it at the tournaments. And its all friendly --- never any hard feelings---that just takes all the fun out of it. -
Ooh ooh ooh --- raises hand like a little school girl! I studied I-Ryu for about 5 years and have dabbled in Shotokan lately (in fact, I just came from a shotokan dojo a couple hours ago ) I know more about I-Ryu but I will try to keep this unbiased. As far as self defense goes -- they should be incorporated in both curriculums --- that seems to be more of an sensei discrepancy how it is taught -- I've never seen SD standardized. So if SD is your main focus I'd suggest you go with the school that has the best SD program Things to watch for in SD: -Control - are people properly stopping locks, tapping out, or are people walking away holding their wrists and elbows - Is it realistic strikes or are punches stopping an inch from target, held there with no counter - Are foundations emphasized etc, etc, etc As far as the differences between the two styles, I-Ryu is famous for its vertical punch. It's primary stance is called the seisan stance (taken after the 1st kata in the system) --- it is higher than shotokans front stance and lower than a shorinRyu walking stance Shotokan seems to hold there hands lower in the 'chamber' than I-Ryu does. Oh, I-Ryu doesn't have any 'beginner katas' --- I-Ryus katas were adopted from GojuRyu and ShorinRyu and they were all brown or black belt katas in those styles. ShorinRyu and ShotoKan seem to start with easier katas which have like an H, I , Y or K pattern. I wouldn't let this sway your opinion either way -- just FYI. Some schools institute basic pattens in I-Ryu IsshinRyu has weapons (usually introduced at green belt) -- bo, sai, tonfa, and nunchuck As far as I know Shotokan doesn't have weapons, but some schools (like the one I visited tonight) adopt weapons kata and training from other styles I'm sure there's more --- but I hope this helps --- let us know how it turns out.

Hopes someone will bump this on T-day so I'll remember.....anyone got times?

Google recently (like within the last couple months) started with the adware garbage...not sure if it is a hacker attempt of if they just slipped it in --- I'll dig up the article. Yahoo uses the google search engine, so whatever google has, yahoo probably does too. PS I still use google --- there is none better IMHO....I run Adaware everyother day to keep a clean system

Knee to the Collarbone
stl_karateka replied to Ozaru's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
As someone who suffered from a broken collarbone 4 years ago I'd say punching would be out of the question for a few months! Why knee the collarbone --- unless you've already got the person bent over --- and if that was the case I'd knee the face (I'm talking self defense now) I agree with the poster that said hammerfist to the collarbone ---- but again, if I was in that position I'd go for the nose --- it only takes 7 pounds of pressure to break the nose --- the eyes start to water and the offender is temporarily helpless (again...experience) -

You should WARN people about the questionable popup material

Nope --- they are a hybrid from all over. I know DX does a soft style -- but that is all I know. John Su does hard and soft Casey Marks does hard (japanese/okinawan) and I am sure they have some Korean stylists on the team

This is a topic in itself! We'll let this so we don't hijack the thread. Thanks for replying though --- I hear what your saying, I just don't see it the same. Agree to disagree I guess -
