  1. Similar to a couple others, I contemplated a yin/yang type on my shoulder, but never followed through. Never felt that strong about it. A word of caution to all those that plan to go. Make sure you go to a "clean" establishment. Talk to the owner, and make sure they sterilize ALL their equipment thoroughly. You can catch a lot of baaad stuff out there if they don't run a clean establishment.
  2. Those are some damn good questions. One problem though. I see two correct answers for number 20.
  3. Ohh! I thought it was only the members of the same team that voted off a member.
  4. The schools that do spar in my art ususally don't allow it before yellow belt. That would be between 6 and 9 months.
  5. Thank you. I was hoping I was reading too much into it.
  6. Hey! What's wrong with the TMN Turtles. My daughter used to get me to watch that and Power Rangers with her. I originally became interested by watching Chuck N. and being amazed at the skills of him and others. I wanted to learn how to do those things. It broke my childhood lack of self esteem. Now its migrated into more fitness, and the desire to pass on what I've learned.
  7. Oh god, not another one! You wouldn't happen to be a teenager would you? That sounds like the exact statment my daughter makes every so often.
  8. Holy cr**! That woke me up!
  9. Yee haw!!!!!!!!! Good job Mag 6!
  10. Scorpio
  11. And don't forget the really BAD acting.
  12. I don't know why you would think that would irritate. I thought it was well put, and to a certain extent I agree. However, there's the other side of the spectrum where Karate Joe opens a school where he trains you from what he learned exclusively from a mail order course. And, someone completely new to the MAs won't know him from a good instuctor without some sort of affiliation to at least attempt to show legitimacy.
  13. I definately don't believe in abandoning the classical roots. However, as YODA said, not everyone is physically able to do everything the classical styles call for.
  14. O.k. who's the imposter posting under Angus' name? shotochem, if you find yourself partnered with someone that you feel might not be able to defend when you let loose, try focusing on the other aspects of sparring. Practice blocking everything, moving in circles and avoiding as much as possible, seeing their body motion and anticipating what attack is coming. Then, you can practice more offense when you're partnered with a more experienced fighter.
  15. I don't personally think even 18 yrs is too long to "complete" a system. However, I do think it's too long to not be able to defend yourself with ANY of what you learned along the way. I can't lock myself away in a monestary, or go live out in the forrest until I know the entire system. I bow to those that have the time and dedication to do so, I'm sure they are awesome to see. However, I have a family to support while I train.
  16. 1 patio block = 5 boards with spacers? or 1 patio block = 5 boards without spacers?
  17. Another question. To anyone who has broken both, how to bricks compare to boards?
  18. Don't get me wrong. Especially in KSW, as you know, I like the standardization of how it is taught. However, it is up to the instructor, as someone comes to them with a problem doing a technique, to be able to show some alternatives to the "exact" technique. It may be as simple as using a slightly different angle on the technique, or as obvious as turning a cartwheel into a shoulder roll in the form.
  19. Congradulations. Of course you can brag a little. We all do from time to time.
  20. Well said, and absolutely correct. Too many older people and physically challenged people don't study because they think they would be required to do the same as everyone else.
  21. Welcome, and congradulations. Keep up the enthusiasm.
  22. Hey OldRookie. Where in NE Texas are you? I just moved up here a few yrs ago from Houston.
  23. Welcome Shin. What made you change arts?
  24. Hi Je Ja!
  25. Hey welcome. I haven't seen the question asked yet. I see the spelling is the same. Are you related to him in any way?
