  1. Yea, give it a rest. And when you are ready to go back to practice make sure you warm up your knee before class even starts.
  2. Did you inhale any bugs while you were running?
  3. Don't hit "stuff" and go see a doctor.
  4. "As the purpose of a martial art is to deliver force against another human or group of humans, only the most ignorant of martial artists would dismiss or reject tools that make performing this task more efficient and less risky. There is no such thing as an immoral tool. There are only immoral tool users." "Responsible carry of a legal weapon is another means of improving those odds, of giving yourself more options." Being a concealed carry permit holder, I would like to thank you for your logical thinking. It seems to be in short supply these days.
  5. No, this diet is not good for anyone. Depriving yourself of pizza can cause irreversable side effects. I think that Dr Atkins diet shuns high carbo foods like that. I'm sure it's true within reason. But there is no way I would give up pizza and beer just because someone who trains 8 hours a day says the extra carbos are bad. They don't know how to enjoy life.
  6. MonkeyGirl said the keyword... reasonable force.
  7. Don't get me wrong. I'm not quitting because of a little boo boo. I might take a week off to heal up more, but I just wanted to see how hard core some other people are. Martial arts are addictive, aren't they?
  8. No little brothers or sisters to blame?
  9. Last night's test was bad. My almost healed rib was re-injured. I sprained my shoulder for the second time. Thumb was crushed while holding a board for someone attempting a break. My gut is now rotting away from all the Motrin I've consumed and I'm sick of ice bags. Is it all worth it? Is there a limit a person reaches where they second guess the benefits to martial arts?
  10. Boards don't hit back, but if the person who is supposed to spin heel kick a board in half misses and crushes your thumb it's just as bad as if they did hit back.
  11. Karate must be some kind of universal term for those who don't know anything about martial arts. I went to my new doctor to get a referral for a chiropractor last year and all through his questioning as to how and why I need a chiropractor he kept calling my art Karate, even though I made it perfectly clear at the very start that I practice Kuk Sool Won. And he's the one who asked what style I am into. My friends are the opposite. They keep making up their own names of KSW, some of which I can't repeat on this forum.
  12. Now that's funny. Collect from other countries? Blahhahahha. The only people that the US collects money from is the taxpayers. That reminds me, I wonder what worthless cause my money is going towards this year? A cattle museum in Texas? Studying why fruit flys like beer and wine? Sending boxes of crayons to Ethiopians?
  13. Here's an easy way to lose weight. Eat 500 calories less a day than what you're consuming now and commit to any kind of exercise. You should be able to drop 1-2 pounds a week and keep it off without driving yourself nuts.
  14. I seen advertisement on the wall at a college gym a few weeks ago that read Karate, but it's really a TKD type class.
  15. You are both right. However, guns are easier to fight with than trying to duke it out in the streets. It takes less skill to point and squeeze than box the other person's face off. That's why guns are popular with law breaking idiots.
  16. No pushups? Now that's my kind of class! Sign me up! (I hope KSN Doug doesn't see this post.)
  17. Aw crud. I spoke too soon. Praticed falling techniques a little too much the other day and now I have rib subluxation. Hurts when I breath, sneeze, tie my shoes, anything that requires ab rotation. And I have a test in less than a week!
  18. Tai Chi might be a good starting point in developing some strength and flexability. From there your friend can then try something else.
  19. Contrary to popular belief, the school is legally responsible for providing a safe environment. If that requires scheduling a personal meeting with the principal or super, so be it. They might even take it seriously if personal safety is in doubt because a lawsuit by a parent is what they don't want.
  20. What in the heck are talking about? When you refer to games are you describing some kind of video game?
  21. You've just described the population of the whole earth.
  22. Sorry to hear about your damaged goods. Welcome to the Forums. I never had anything serious happen. Worst thing was probably a sprained shoulder.
  23. I'd rather just drink more milk.
  24. You won't know until you ask, but don't be in such a rush. Concentrate on learning proper technique and control first and then you can apply that to sparring. Have fun.
  25. My instuctor was critiquing our forms last week and held a re-breakable plastic board for one of the strikes we perform. I hit that darn thing with my hand rolled over a little too much and just about broke my knuckle. I did break the board, but judging by the color of my knuckle my technique was not proper. Hey Captain, your signature is correct. Arguing comes naturally to us.
