Thank you Tobias Since I'll be teaching myself at home, it doesnt really matter to me which style the techniques comes from on and so on...however I am more concerned with effectiveness of the techniques and their applicability to street situations. Because It is easier to find a stick (mop/broom) then lets say a sai or nunchucks lying around, this is the main reason why I want to study the bo. So do you believe I should look for the videos you have suggested or do you know of any more suitable books/videos?? Thanks Again!

lol g, now why would you think that Angus was about to say a dirty story? He couldve just been about to mention some really brutal maneuvers, the sort of knowledge that shouldnt be placed in the wrong hands and you never know with innocent children! Btw Angus, you wrote that the WKO tries to keep students closed minded and not allowing them to fight other styles?? How so??

psychological effects of fighting

Well but then you can always say, if you dont forsee yourself winning then dont fight.... You shouldnt be in fights you cant win, and unless something really stupid happens you shouldnt lose. I mean, I say I believe that I am mentaly prepared, and If Frank Shamrock, Bruce Lee and Jet Li want to get into a fight with me on the streets, Im ready. Yep - Im ready to run like hell. It's just that my sister who used to train with me, returned from the UK where she says according the the UK federation you are meant to rotate about youre heel. In all my years of training neither me or my sister had ever been corrected, and now that I ponder about it - I notice several other black belts with higher dans then me doing the same. I also noticed it on a kata demonstration video. So I was hoping to get everyones opinion ... But thank you Gloi.

Okay here is the situation : You are in lets say zencusudachi (front stance) and with an gyacusuki (front punch) you then turn around whilst doing a gidan barai. Do you rotate about youre heel or youre toes?

Talking about videos, I have never ever used a bo simply because no one teaches weapons out here. I managed to pick up a pair of nunchuks and learn somewhat from videos, books, net and improvisation... I was wondering if any of you guys could suggest a good, Bo book or video so that I may learn it, the best I can, at home ?

Slow youre inner pace down and you will realise that the world is always in such a rush. With this realisation comes patience because you dont actually feel you are waiting .... you might even begin to like to moments of nothingness. Just calm down youre inner self... you might find you are more focused and attentive in the each thing you do. Take a look at many of the 'masters', they are often slow in their approach yet whatever they do, they take their time, think out exactly what they are going to do and or say, and their conduct is much more refined. They have great patience and it shows. [ This Message was edited by: Jiggy9 on 2001-12-22 12:42 ]

Behind Every Good Non-Classical Martial Artist . . .
Jiggy9 replied to ChangWuJi's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Well, It's a bit odd. I would classify myself as a non classical martial artist; yet I agree with most of the article. I think it is simply because, I personally feel in order to become a good all round fighter you need skills which can be attained by studying individual arts in depth and absorbing what you learn into youre personal style. So even though the author suggests that non classical martial artists lose out on alot of what the arts have to offer; it may be so...but then it all really boils down to if the individual wants what they are missing out on. I dont however think it is a case of laziness, because hey...most the non classical fighters I know train like dogs with 100% commitment and dedication. -
Happy Birthday! I hope this new year brings you nothing but happines.
