In many ways martial arts training is a journey. It is a different and unique experience for everyone. There are some common experiences many have. For me the biggest thing was the way my training helped me pull myself out of one of the darkest periods of my life.
You didn't say how long you have been training. That is a common phenomenon for people to encounter when they first start training and try to do the very best they can. To some extent that goes away with conditioning and more practice. And to some degree that lessons as your technique improves. And then there are other factors as well; such as learning how to make your techniques flow into one another.
An interesting statistic in our dojo was that most all of the injuries that occured happened outside of class in non martial arts related activities. Basketball being the number one accident causing sport. The only incident that I recall directly from class was a broken toe.
Actually I get a very similar sensation caused by some of the nerves that the ms has damaged. And it does run through that area. To this day I still have a lot of atrophy in that side of my hand. But I do have enough strength in the last two fingers to type with; something I did not have for several years.
