  1. I have used carb gels when I did weights, then three classes in the same evening. You have to make sure you hydrate adequately to allow the stuff to enter you system.
  2. I need to remind everyone here that posting in a civil manner with respect to other posters and their opinons is mandatory here.
  3. Don't think of them as girl push ups to start with. Think of them as pushups from your knees. Other things to try are wall pushups. Stand facing a wall and take a step back. Place you hands on the wall in a pushup position and go at it. Work pushups off a counter top. If you have ready access to an stairwell work them off the steps. Stand at the bottom of the stairwell and place your hands on a step. As you practice them more and get stronger go to progerssively lower steps.
  4. Carb gels of this nature are basically glucose products designed to be quickly sucked up by your system. You need to be doing some pretty hard core endurance workouts to really need something lke that.

  6. My 18 inch sai actually do extend beyone the tip of my elbow about an inch. When I got them my sai techniques went from just average to the best in the dojo.
  7. I use an 18 inch set of sai and during bo sai techniques I have never been hit on the end of the elbow. Mine are long enough for me. When I used the longe pair they were a bit too long to me and my techniques were definately not as good.

  10. I think first I would let her drop the wednesday and frinday night sessions but still have her go to the regular tuesay/thursday lessons. Compromise a bit. Then when she had a definate activity to occupy class time on tuesday and thursday talk about changing activities then. But to drop out totally just to hang with the girls is not the best choice. (Old girl speaking here.)
  11. Do be real honest most don't really even begin to develope a halfway decent sidekick until at least fifth kyu.
  12. We use a stance like that but don't call it crane stance. There is a version with the back foot with the hill up and one with the front leg with the heel up. It is a type of a transition stance. Think about a military about face. See it done on two counts. Stop on the first cound before you actually turn and bend your knees. What stance are you in. Look at the stance in her picture and visualize the knees bent more then think of the tekki or Nihanchi katas.

    Balance

It comes with time. And the longer you train the stronger the small supporting muscles in your feet and ankles get. That makes a big difference.
  18. The wing chun punch using the bottom two knuckles is a vertical punch as opposed to the horizontal karate punch. Much depends on how the punch is taught and the physical requirements of the puncher. Also the level of the target punched.
  19. Please remember to keep all discussion civil and refrain from personal attacks.
  20. And I thought it was such a lovely silver maple. I transplanted it there and watered it and took care of it. Then one day it tried to fall on my car.
  21. Welcome to the forum.
  22. It takes time to develope the flexibility and the appropriate type of muscle strenght in the proper muscles for a good side kick.
  23. When in the dojo you train in the stances your instructor teaches. To do otherwise is disrespectful.
  24. A tree tried to fall on my innocent car one time years before I ever began to routinely break boards.
