  2. Congratulations Ramy and you get your black belt back next month.
  3. Welcome to the forum.
  4. I am closing this because it does not meet the guidelines of the comparative forum.
  5. Gene Labell is famous for his pink judogi. It all started when he was at a tournament and sent his gi out to be washed. Somehow it came back pink and he didn't have another one and had to wear it pink. He kept the pink color as a sort of a trademark.
  6. What's a popple? And I am going to move this to regular chat. I have certainly had a good laugh reading it though.
  7. He is really not trying to be annoying he is looking for some constructive comments about something he has a legitimate question about. You should have seen the looks I got first time I showed up at a big test gathering when it was the turn for my grades test. We got on our gear and then everyone in the gym realized I had on a white helmet. Now this was a day when about 200 tested and I was the only adult who wore a helmet all day long. And it was the only white helmet in the bunch. The kids all had black helmets on. But as we moved across the floor there were a lot of potential slip or trip hazards. We were in a grade school gym with an opened divider in the middle and there was a weird seam for the divider that ran the across the whole middle of the floor. And unfortunately that was the area of the room I got placed in. Now with my balance, which is at time compromised, the foam helmet may not sound like major protection but it was so much better than nothing in the event my head where to meet the floor up close and personal. Everyone has their own level of what is reasonable and safe. And their own comfort level.
  8. A thread was made because a newcomer to karate had a problem and was looking for a friendly bit of advice and some help. Now please everyone let's keep things friendly and try to be helpful. Many find the dojo to be a friendly home away from home but for some it is more of an adjustment than others. At this point I see the makeup as less of an issue than just being friendly and getting used to people. Try saying a bit more to classmates and getting used to people. Not in an I'm looking for a guy way just in a freindly manner. And don't forget to smile at times.
  9. I have read all of the Dan Brown books. My favorite was Digital Fortress. I am currently reading The Castle of Otranto with Classic Gothic Horror.
  10. There ain't nothing more satisfying than warming up and stretching out before class and seeing a kids jaw hit the floor when I do the splits.
  11. Welcome to the forum. And I am happy to meet another oldster.
  12. At about your age I was the first adult in the dojo who chose to wear headgear. I had a concern about how my head might fear in a fight with the floor. As time passed we gained some new adult students who also wore headgear. Then we began to notice something. It was general the adults with a higher degree of education who were wearing the headgear. Think about that. As time passed headgear was univerally sold to all students when they bought their sparring gear.
  13. Sounds like some of those girls are jealous. It may help for you to remove your makeup before class. In fact I think that is a fairly universal recomendation. In all my years in the gym and in the dojo I really see very few people working out in makeup. In fact in the middle of class many people wipe sweaty faces off on their gi sleeves. If you have questions see if you can ask the instructor before class if you can get their before the snobs do.
  14. I have to agree with Patrick and Drunken Monkey. My HP printer is the third printer I have had and by far the only one that really met my needs. It does great pictuare quality color printing and great looking text documents as well. I have printed a lot of things for the resident council - pamphlets and invitations.
  15. Welcome to the forum.
  16. Welcome to the forum. Many instructors are willing to work with a student with a special need to wear shoes. I know, I speak from experience.
  17. That sounds like a very reasonable time frame. There may be a few kids who can do things ina shorter amount of time and at a younger age but not many. Actually that is not a bad time frame for an adult student starting out a bit later.
  18. Welcome to the forum.
  19. I recently did a reread of Dune with a group and then read the next two Dune books and then sort of burned out on Dune.
  20. Welcome to the forum.
  21. We do a similar move in Tsukenshitahaku no sai.
  22. Welcome to the forum.
  23. Welcome to the forum.
