  1. I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before or not but there is a long and informative article on meditation thechniques at coolshack.com as well.
  2. Connective tissues rubbing across each other. Some may not slide in the grove quiet the way they are supposed to. Stand still and kind of bend your knees. Then tighten up the muscles above the knee. And see how different the knee feels. Then keeping your hip and ankle still see if your knee will move forwards and backwards without generating the movement in the hip.
  3. My theory is the giant knot feeling is a combination of muscle spasm, waste products of the involved tissues, and adhesions. Sometimes things get all bound up together and a mass actually does form. Stretching alone does not get rid of it. There are some very nasty things physical therapists do to you in the process of breaking it down. I had a lovely experience in a rehab unit about a dozen years agol
  4. I am also extremely afraid of ripping my shoulders apart again. Bilateral torn rotator cuffs is something I never want to live through again. I am really not sure even trying a grappling type of thing is a good idea for me to try. I know with out it I will never be a completely well rounded martial artist but safety is a really major concern here.
  5. Hi Pooh Bear nice to meet you. Actually I am supposed to be 45 next birthday but I act more like well............ This is a pretty great forum. And fun. And serious too. A real nice mix. Sai :pony:
  6. Breaking is the one requirement we have that holds more kids back from getting their black belt. Few of ours can really do the requirements much before 12 or 13. There is so much more than the ability or inability to do one thing that should determine ones suitablity to become a black belt. In the area of being mentally able to handle the skills and use them appropriately I think those who realize after they have done some breaking that they really can do some damage they tend to think more before actually becoming involved in a physical altercation. But then that is just my opinion.
  7. I remember all the saturday nights of Shock Theater when we were kids. Seems like we couldn't get enough of the weird supposedly scary movies. My brother used to actually run home after school every day to watch Dark Shadows. I read Anne Rice and find I enjoy the way Lestat questions the evil and the good. Weird. Just was wondering if I was alone. I am still trying to find out what my brother and sister liked so much in Dark Shadows.
  8. So is anyone interested in the undead?
  9. That one sure brought activity to the forum.More posts than there have been since Joe Cook shook us up when he first came in.
  10. Excellant idea Yoda.
  11. Sorry Yoda. And thought provoking. Angus are you beginning to learn more about the why's of moderate training?
  12. I am still a bit blown away that not all schools require breaking for black belt.
  13. Hey get it out of your system. And by the way, Congratulations
  14. I looked at some of those sites and found them to be very interesting. It is time I learned something more about ju jitsu.
  15. The Shiho, Kihon Ichii, Kihon Ni, and Kobu Shodan I know I think are specific to my school. Many schools have their own forms done only by them.
  16. My moment of poetry came one night while sparring with sensei. He stopped backed up and gave me this look. Seems like my press block to a backfist out of my stance with the one hand held much higher than he likes to see fullfilled it's purpose. He was actually quite shocked.
  17. I started for anger management purposes. I continue because when I am training I feel like a totally new and improved person.
  18. The best martial art is the one that makes you feel satisfied with what you are doing and learning.
  19. There is more than one type of Tai Chi. And some do have some moves that can be applied as grappling techniques.
  20. Wow Angus I am impressed.
  21. We used to do the cement patio blocks. Then started focusing more on ambitexterous work. Cement is much more intimidating.
  22. Thinking is hard. Following is easy. But then following blindly is more difficult than is seems at first. But on a blindfold and follow someone. When the sidewalk is smooth it is one thing. But when you go off the path see what happens. You must remove the blindfold or do a lot of picking yourself up.
  23. Hello to everyone who has not started their own thread.
  24. Three Alaskans were charged recently with ill-thought out thefts: Todd Shobe, 38, was arrested in Anchorage in January when his SUV got stuck in the mud at a construction site after being weighed down with all the tools he was trying to drive away with. And Roger D. Yost, 40, and William Isberg, 40, were arrested in Fairbanks in February when they tried to get a 500-pound safe out of the door of a moose hall lodge, seemingly forgetting that they had arrived at the Lodge only on bicycles.
  25. 199/33. I did it again and did a bit better. I made fewer mistakes on the second trial and the odd lines I was asked to type were different too. I will never really be a good typist but things like this can be fun occasionally if not taken too seriously.
