  1. And too family training is a great thing. :pony:
  2. Hi KarateMom, welcome to the forum. And I hope you have a long journey in the martial arts.
  3. No real problem Monkey Ninja. I get peanut butter on my keyboard every now and then.
  4. Do not under rate your self bitseah. You are doing a wonderful job. Many who have been here longer than you do not know how to link like that. I hope to see many of your posts. Actually how to earn rank is a good question. The only way to learn is to ask. This forum is an excellant place to ask questions. And another great way to learn is to help look for answers. Make any sense? Sai
  5. Welcome to the forum.
  6. We all know many martial arts have terms for movements in the language in which the art originated. What about a collective lanuage for all the words martial artistis use. Words describing the feelings, training techniques. What would you call the language marial artists speak to each other?
  7. That was interesting. Thanks
  8. I have noticed that written descriptions of empty handed forms can be found on the internet. But there are very few written descriptions of weapons forms. Has anyone else noticed the same thing?
  9. And so many under value the tekki katas. Most of what I have done with them I have had to do on my own. One thing that was a real revalation to me was the idea that any time you hit a kosa dachi (cross footed stance) in kata in can symbolize a turn even when there is not turn at that point in the kata. Think about it. Look at some one do a militairy about face command. Watch it done on 2 counts. Do it and bend the knees on the first count - what are you doing?

    Test?

Interesting concept G95. No I am sorry to say we had nothing like this in our testing process. We had a written black belt test that takes most several days to complete. It is a very comprehensive one. And would be way to long for a sit down in a group test.
  11. Having a bit of trouble getting only one post MonkeyNinja? Double posts happen to all of us every now and then accidentally. But a quintiple post? If you have trouble getting things to send go out of the site and re-enter. Sometimes when things are acting really flakey it helps to reboot too.
  12. I have a niece who writes wonderful poetry. But me, I am no poet.
  13. Mag 6 I may have to miss the next one. My computer may have to visit the shop. My CD RW drive died.
  14. This appeared in one of my mailboxes today. I thought it was funny. No offense intended to anyone. Especially not computer addicted. NEWS BULLETIN: Saying it will improve the education of children who have grown up immersed in computer lingo, the school board in San Jose, Calif., has officially designated computer English, or Geekonics, as a second language. The historic vote on Geekonics a combination of the word geek and the word phonics came just weeks after the Oakland school board recognized black English, or Ebonics, as a distinct language. This entirely reconfigures our parameters, Milton Floppy Macintosh, chairman of Geekonics Unlimited, said after the school board became the first in the nation to recognize Geekonics. No longer are we preformatted for failure, Macintosh said during a celebration that saw many Geekonics backers come dangerously close to smiling. Today, we are rebooting, implementing a program to process the data we need to interface with all units of humanity. Controversial and widely misunderstood, the Geekonics movement was spawned in California's Silicon Valley, where many children have grown up in households headed by computer technicians, programmers, engineers and scientists who have lost ability to speak plain English and have inadvertently passed on their high-tech vernacular to their children. Warning to all computer geeks: Speak English! _________________ Shotokan Karate, bo, sai Karate means a better life [ This Message was edited by: SaiFightsMS on 2002-07-15 13:15 ]
  15. For six years my neighbors and I had the very bad experience of having one of the worlds worst neighbors. During that time we were subjected to repeatedly being awakened in the middle of the night by "visitors" tryin to get in to see this guy. 99% of them did not have enough sense to dial a 3 digit intercom number. So they would just punch anything close to his apartment number. Over and over and over ad nauseum. Sometimes they would call half the people in the building. The next step would be for them to go outside and stand in front of the building and yell up at his windows. Problem being this usually occurred between midnight and 4 in the moring. At time they would band on the doors and the first floor windows. The object of their intentions did not live on the first floor. Going on they would throw rocks up at his windows. Only most of the time they did not throw them at the right widows. Get at least part of the picture. Then there was the smell. Have you ever smelled someone who stank so badly that you smelled them after they had left the area? Extremely unpleasant. And to make it worse he had the bad habit of trying to "hit on" female visitors to other people. This was no trivial thing. Some of you may only need 1 hour of sleep a night but most of us require more. And when your friends don't want to come see you that is really not a good thing. And then there is that phone bill you pay every month but have to keep the phone unplugged much of the time to keep from getting called (and woke up) dozens of times a night. So where does this lead? Finally he was evicted. Shortly thereafter someone who he really teed off threw a flammable substance in him and lit him up. True story. So now this guy (a below the knee amputee) is in a nursing home. Glad I wasn't there. Recently he was placed in "potters field" after an inglorius death. All 400 pounds of him. Is something wrong when you cannot feel anything about the demise of another supposed human? Is there such a thing as karma? If there is his sure caught up with him. Anyone else ever have a similar experience?
  16. Practice and more practice. One does not instantly have great power. It comes to gradually to really measure in most case. The more you do and the more you practice the better it gets. It is a process that goes on over time. Like years.
  17. Chang I do enjoy your highly informative history posts.
  18. I usually run between 60-68 bpm sitting still. When I work on aerobic equipment I go up to like 160+. Much of the time I have to back off while I am still breathing well because my heart rate is going to high. I am over forty after all. And I have noticed if I work closer to my max for longer it takes an extra recovery day. If I work at about 80% of my max I can train more consistently. Actually I have fairly low blood pressure readings for my age group. Wonder if there is a connection?
  19. Welcome to the forum . Nice to meet another female :pony: Glad that you are enjoying the kickboxing. If you want to talk about being the only girl in the gym there are a few of us around who have experienced that. Sai
  20. Sounds like you are hooked now for sure. Sai
  21. Wether you are 14,40,60 or 90 when it comes to affairs of the heart the emotions are felt just as deeply. And the traumas are just as strong. The key is to learn how to deal with the emotion. It can destroy or strenghten. Sometimes you need to back up and take a look doing the best you can to leave the emotion out of it. A very difficult thing.
  22.
  23. Have you ever packed your bag on the way to class on laundry day and gotten to the dojo to change only to discover in your bag is not a complete gi - but 2 pairs of pants? Or like when wearing an old pair of pants in class suddenly feeling a draft? And then there is the day when you raise your arm for an upper block to hear a rip and guess what - the old top is now ventilated. I had one rip all the way from the armpit to the belt one day.
  24. The differning views expressed kind of represent an inner vs and outer point of view. Does your rank mean more to you on the inside or does it mean more when you put on your belt? I think it as a natural progression for one to at first exprience pride in a new belt when you put it on. As the journey in the martial arts continues the actual belt or rand mean less it is the internal - what you are learning that means more. Make any sense?
