  1. Well I have to admit if I am being extravagant I found a woderful beverage at a local coffe bar. They call it a breve (I think). It starts with a shot of cappachino poured over ice spiked with a shot of a flavored syrup (my fav is amond) topped with steamed whipped milk and a chocolate covered coffe bean. Very delicious.
  2. ROFL Yoda I find that the enthusaiasm of the younger members keeps me feeling much younger than my 45 years.
  3. Things to help you in life... Never test the depth of the water with both feet. It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a bad example. It is far more impressive when others discover your good qualities without your help. If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of car payments. Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile way and you have their shoes. If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you. Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day. If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again,it was probably worth it. Don't squat with your spurs on. If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything. Some days you are the bug, some days you are the windshield.
  4. Nope Drunken Master just wondering what they wear while practicing their sumo. How different is their uniform or mawashi than that of their male counter parts?
  5. I think I missed your intro earlier, but, anyway welcome to the forum And keep coming back
  6. Welcome to the forum. And I hope you return here often.
  7. Thanks for the link.
  8. Sometimes the lenght of the step into the kosa dachi at he last move to the front of the kata will make a pretty big difference in where the kata finishes. You should be going a least as far forward with the right foot as if you were stepping in zen kutsu dachi. Also sometimes if the kakiwake moves to the corners are off line that too affects where the kata ends. Actually I like the idea that all of the Heians can be practiced as one long kata - non stop.
  9. Welcome to the forum.
  10. I practice at night in a multi-purpose room inside the building where I live. If I time it right I don't meet any other residents. Just in case though, I have to be alert to the prescence of others entering the area. I about gave someone heart failure one night getting carried a way on a kiai practicing kata. I think the old man visiting the soda machine did something in his pants. That aside, there are also bathrooms in the back of the room when it is open during business hours. I was practicing a bo kata one day and during a turn someones grand daughter just happened to walk out of the bathroom as I was turning to do a strike to that direction. (NO I did not hit the kid) Practicing like that helps make me more aware of my surroundings at other times as well. Like when I am outside of the building. We should be more aware of our surroundings than most of us are. That is a kind of "sense".
  11. I would not die of thirst with no ice tea, but I sure would miss it. A nice cool glass of tea is my drink.
  12. You know this question gets asked a lot. Does this indicate a need for an exploration area?
  13. Like when you stand next to the same people in class over time. You start to be able to sense where they are. So you don't step on each other doing kata. Or turning around in a line drill or kicking someone. There where those I stood next to that I could tell where they were. And those that look out we're gonna' step on each other! I have to admit I have done somework blindfolded. But, very badly. I had to get sports goggles to spar in I am too blind to spar in safety without them. It was terrifying the times I tried.
  14. Welcome Melanie.

  17. Welcome to the forum.
  18. Which switch switches the wench.
  19. Not nice ZR440 my system is only 7 months old. But I am back. With a new CD RW and 256 mb more ram. At least I didn't have to pay for the drive. It was still under warranty. Twas a bad weekend for drives, while I was at the shop one came in with a dead floppy and another with a defective hard drive. The day it was picked up more bad drives. And remember only this February it was in. My hard drive had to be wiped and I had to start all over.
  20. Do you by any chance live in a building with a hallway? If so it is possible to do some work in the hall if you work quietly with no Kiai. And if there is a stair way there is your leg strength and aerobic work. Up and down over and over. Miyagi Sanchin and the Tekki katas are well suited for practice in a hallway.
  21. UBU - Upper Body Erogometer. If you can find one they are a great upper body only aerobic workout. Actually with a bit of creativity it is possible to train from a seated position.
  22. And the Taikyokyu katas are done by students in many different "styles" of karate. The foundations are very similar in most of the Japanese/Okinawan arts.
  23. "Shoto" was the name of the training hall Funakoshi had before it was destroyed during the war. "Kan" is another way of saying builing.
  24. There is a lot of discussion about stretching in health and fitness.
