Unconventional breaks
The Saint replied to Black Dragon's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Try breaking 2 boards at the same time using two back fist strikes, behind you of course. Kinda like a mountian block, or holding concrete block on your abs and getting someone to hit it with a slud hammer would be cool, good luck! -
Rebreakable are okay for practise but real wood is way better. We only use real wood for testing.

2nd attempt at sparring...
The Saint replied to Azmyth's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
good job, i also get my but kicked by black belts and it makes me a better fighter. I love the look on their faces when something unexpected happens to them (like a kick or a punch lands). It's good for everyone! -
why does WTF (olympic tae kwon do) not allow punches to the face? I feel this is a bad issue when it comes to self defense. I know that different schools produce different styles under one oganization. I have competed in a couple of WTF tournaments and am puzzled why the punch to the side of the head is not scored. The punch to the body is scored which i can understand. I've found that most of the opponents that i have fought keep their guard down to protect their ribs and the face exposed. I would like some more information on the WTF style to help me train for on open tournament in November.

Well, that sucks about her taking one in the head. Was she wearing a helmet? What belt colour was she? Did she not read the Labels on all sparing Gear? Karate the last time I check was a physical art where you can get hurt. As for waivers and things like that you have to sign on at our dojo for liability sake.

At our school we just have our instructor- 5th dan.

Well, it can be good to improve your skills. Fighting different people keeps your skills better. I Compete in tournaments to help improve myself. Wins/loses don't really matter, I love to train hard it makes my kicks faster and mind sharper for competition. Fighting the same person over and over for years gets repeatative and you find out all the little tricks they like to use. Fighting in tournaments is a good way to become a well rounded fighter. Point fighting isllistrates speed and accuracy, where Continuos fighting is the same without stopping. I think that competing against other people is a good thing to sharpen your skills and be a better fighter.

Well, Hitting women is very bad, however the only way to learn Martial Arts is to spar different people, height sex, weight, shouldn't matter. So hitting a fellow student (in a controlled place) when they have all the gear on souldn't be an issue. I am a larger male than all of the women at my dojo so I don't use full force when I spar with them. The crotch shot is the worse thou... Most of the women are considerate about not kicking below the belt thou. thx for that

Registering as a Lethal weapon

Good post warp spider, I agree too -
Interesting, another Cop story..
The Saint replied to SoulAssassin's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Wow......, Number one how old is this "Former Cop?" Did he get fired for telling the crap he told you...well, reasonible force is allowed ( if he comes running in and you kick him and he goes down...fight ends there) If you start kicking him while he's down.. thats beyond resonable force and you can be charged. Avoiding the fight all together would be my approach to it. As for telling your aggresser you have martial arts training, a hidden defence is the best one- you don't have too. -
It happens to a lot of people, when you attend open tournaments, your stuck playing by their rules. Judges at these competetions should look at a form with an open mind. Sometimes it doesn't happen and you get srewed over. If your entire club was getting screwed over than it's probably not worth attending the competetion the next year. However, If it was just one judge than it is worth mentioning it to the co-ordinator of the tournament. But just to let you know that this happens on a regular basis in all sports. It sucks........ Train harder and win the next time

Martial Arts in the WWE
The Saint replied to Black Dragon's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
The Shamrock boys were in WWF for a while, but most of the moves are coriograpghed in wreslting. But it still takes a good athlete to endure the slams to the body. There are a lot of X-football players in the ring too. You can tell who has martial arts behind them in the ring though their ability to kick someone in the head with absolutly no brusing whatsoever. -
Sparring Short "V" Tall
The Saint replied to Looneyas's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
Try to get inside and jam their kicks. Being taller I use the distance game all the time....When someone comes in I try to go defensively, I've met a lot of good short fighters that have awsome hand skills. Hand skills inside are usful for a shorter opponent. As for the head shots, try aiming for the soft part right below the rib cage. Good luck -
WHAT COUNTRY DO YOU STUDY IN? THAT'S THE FIRST I HERE ABOUT- "OPEN TO ANYONE TOURNAMENTS." Normally kicks to the side of the head down to the belt level-no sweeps, elbows or low kicks, kicks to the back, (injury reasons). In my style of TKD punching is permitted to the sides of the face. Nose mashing and uppercuts are frowned upon but sometimes happen. It all depends on the organization holding the event.

World Record board breaker!
The Saint replied to The Saint's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Thanks, he is an awsome power breaker. Most of the boards where a cleam break. I would never thought that someone could break 6 concrete stones with a knife hand strike until I saw Mike reeves do it. -
It might be possible, for one reason he had shorter arms that larger people. I have notice a person that is shorter doesn't have to move the weight as far as a tall person does. So it could be possible. But 400lbs is alot of weight too....it could be just a myth

Bruce Lee was the king with the front foot!

I was power breaking on ESPN, and some guy broke 415- 1" thick boards in 1 minute (which is quite incredible to watch). It was part of a competion in Florida somewhere(Part of US Open, i think). What is this guys name? Did anyone else see this? What is the most amount of boards you have personally broke at once?

Villari infomercial " who needs an instructor"
The Saint replied to kempocos's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
I use Tae-Bo on top of my training. I have found that, they dumb the termanology down a bit so people understand it a bit better. But Doing MA AT HOME IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HANDS ON TRAINING at a dojo. I use it to increase Cardio endrance. So the tapes could be good or just be a waste of $. Buyer Beware. -
Why does everyone use the name "karate"
The Saint replied to TJS's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
When most people hear that I am involve with Martial arts they assume it is Karate, when it is TKD. I think it is mainly due to the fact that Karate is popular in some areas and some influences from TV and Movies. As for buildings with the wrong art on the side you have to ask yourself, is it just a money grab or does the instructor use Karate with TKD. He/She could be an excellent instructor in a couple forms of martial arts. -
balance is good, but if it ends up on the ground hands.

There are Continous tournaments out there, TKD tournaments I have found this to be more common. Most of the tournaments are continus fighting with controlled contact. Points vary from tournament to tournament. The typical round is 2 minutes, which is a lot longer than it sounds. Just ask the tournament co-ordinators to compete in some of these tournaments. I would also ask your Sensi on this matter. It could be a sign of disrespect if you went and fought without his permission. IT's tons of fun competing in continous fighting tournaments. One suggustion before competing though is to get your wind up.

i found out, it went well
