  1. try https://www.karatedepot.com, they have some good deals
  2. It has help me lose about 20lbs and has gotten me off the couch
  3. The side kick is my favorite, it jams people when they try to rush in
  4. The most annoying sparing partner is the guy with little or no control. By this I mean, when it comes time to spar people get hurt because of poor technic and the amount of contact made. I realise that not all clubs train the same and contact is different amoung clubs. Getting clocked full force in the nose or jaw is no good for anyone in training.
  5. Most MA clubs in my area offer a free class. If I were you I would look at all difffernt sorts of MA and choose the one that you feel will accomplish all your goals and fits your needs.
  6. Definately, get as much knowledge as you can in any art you want to take.It will make you a better fighter and give you more challenges to acconplish
  7. Yes, large sumo wrelters do die at a young age compared to the average person. They usually die from heart problems or other things that are a result from eating lots of food. The sport involes a lot of leverage and quick feet, which is kinda neat considering how large some sumo get.
  8. I am looking for a bow stafe. Sorry about the clarity
  9. I would use a cane,...for a couple of reasons 1) you can use the hook part to hook and sweep your opponent 2) there are tones of take downs using pressure points and weak spots 3) It's an everyday item that nobody would suspect to be a weapon. 4) theres lots more applications too for more info go to http://www.accesswave.ca/~mckennatkd/lacanne.htm
  10. Does anyone know of a company that sells good bows at a reasonible price? (on line and will ship to Canada)
  11. A "45" is a move that some boxers use and is also called angling. The idea of the principle is to avoid a kick or a punch and set youself up for a nice kick or punch by stepping right or left at a 45 degree angle. If you don't understand ask your insructor about it. It works well if you're real good at it. As for being a small fighter use your speed and counter you opponents moves. Kicks work well because normally you get 2 points for a kick 1 for a punch. 2 kicks and a punch can end a point match aweful fast.
  12. with respect to the last post I cannot form an opion on how WTF fighters train in their dojos. However, tournaments should reflect hard training through basics and good technic. Habits are hard to break, if you train with your guard up, good chances you will fight with yuor guard up. If you get into a bad habit of keeping hands down to protect your ribs and chest it leaves the guard dropped. I'm sure there are many WTF fighters out there that train with their guard up and punch to the face. However I have yet to meet one in the region I train.
  13. warm ups 10 min drills 15 min katas 10 min sparing 20 min cool down 5 min
  14. I hit the bag as hard and fast as I can most of the time, it gets all the agression out....
  15. yeah both
  16. I like to use my side kick and back fist to death, it stops people form rushing in, but just remember all those balck belts were once in your shoes. Everyone takes their lumps, the ones who learn form them are usually wearing a black belt.
  17. no your not too old, I started at 23.
  18. well, I train under ITF, I feel it is a better style for defence and will always feel that way. I'm not sure on how effictive WTF can be. I have fought in several tournaments that were WTF stlye and I noticed that some (not all) wtf fighters fought with their guard down. This is a bad thing, if you are trying to defend yourself on the streets. We always train to protect your face and head. Sometimes I think that WTF is Sport TKD and ITF is Common Sense TKD............but that's just my opinion and could be argued till we're all blue in the face. Each style thou, gets people off the couch to exercise and communicate with other people.
  19. Training against a more experiance fighter is always god for both parties, i always try to spar and compete with the black belts at my dojo. The suddle kicks and jabs to the head are to point out weaknesses in your fighting style if you learn from the light taps to the side of the face it's a good thing. I see no problem with light head contact to let your opponent know if their guard is down.
  20. Black for training and white for competing. Black doesn't get all yellow from sweat, and I have a nice clean white one for competiton
  21. It takes me about 10 to 15 mintues. 1 mile = 1.6kms for general info.
  22. I personally use two uniforms, I train in a heavy black cotton uniform and have a nice clean light weight white traditional dobok just for tournaments. Some Flashy uniforms are crapy looking but to have a nice presentable uniform is another storey. I find that the light weight during competition helps me to move better and get a bit more speed.
  23. Finally another bluenoser.....where do you train? I train at McKenna on hwy 7 in Dartmouth, NS Can.
  24. Banff would be nice. What exactlly is CMAC?
  25. There's two seasons here.....winter and construction. I like fall thou everything gets nice and crisp.
