Here's one, if they get up in your face ask them to take a class. Educating people to new things is extremely difficult. People often pick at things that they are ignorant to (not knowing). People often take the cheesey "karte kid" theme and asume all martial arts are like that. Don't go looking for trouble, or trouble will find you. If you can't educate this bunch of people avoid the conflict by changing cloths or doing anything to avoid trouble.

How depend against a defensive front leg sidekick?
The Saint replied to ITSUKO's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
If you are in a closed stance sweep the lead leg away from your lead leg. (this will make so their back is facing you) Then use a reg hand to hit the chest or side of the head. It takes a while to get the timing but it helps against a led side kick. (watch out for a back kick after the side kick thou) -
For the beter most I choose to wear a helmet (I am 26). Some Kicks and Punches are hard and the helmet is there to sofen the blow. Why I personally use one is to protect my brain. Concussions have ended a large deal of athletes careers (Steve Young, Brent Lindross to name a few). People that get hit in the head one to many times often think a little slower too. Personally, I don't want brain damage ! Some Competitions around my area will not let any competitor compete (all belts) if they are not wearing a helmet. Helments in my club are enforced up to black belts, even some of the black belts wear helmets (even thou it's optional) All it takes is one kick or punch to connect in the right spot. (nobodys perfect, althou everyone strives to try to be) Just one final thought, Helmets have there pros and con's. I choose to wear one because I have to go to work the next day afterclass thinking clearly.

I'll agree with that oxy clean works great...

Most of the kicks (not all) are found in the patterns or Katas. There's tonnes of terms used for different kicks as try: http://www.mackenzie-taekwondo.com/patterns.htm, This site shows most of the patterns and you might get something out of it. gl

I have two uniforms, one for competition (bright white) and the other for training at the dojo (almost yellow). Just chuck it in the white wash and hang dry. No Bleach, it ruins the fabric and could ruin your patches/crests

Should I compete?
The Saint replied to Rich_2k3's topic in MMA, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, Boxing, and Competitive Fighting
lmao I'd compete if I were you, there is going to be alot of serious people there as well as people that enjoy competing to get better. Ethier one is good, -
Train harder than you'll have to fight at the tournament is a word of advise someone told me sometime ago. Be confident in your abilites and you will do fine. When it comes to Katas, If i were in your shoes, I would try and perfert you most difficult Kata and do it zillions of times. Eat right, train hard and you'll do well, good luck

walk away..... some people don't know who they are messing with. If this doesn't work, a switch away back kick would work perfectly. When you are pushed use the momentum and slip in a back kick. It would work even better you you landed the kick on the solarplexes. After that you could get creative....

One way to avoid the uppercut is, not being there when it lands...lol. The upper cut is there and is hard to get away from. How I stop it is to clentch or tie your opponent up. This is also how to waste sometime in a match and it helps save a bit of energy. Boxers do it all the time and the official has to break it up. If you are tall and have the reach advantage than distancing is good in a fight. If you are short an uppercut can be used effectivly for a knock down/out. An example of this is Mike Tyson in his prime (before prison). He is short and used his uppercut very effectively. When he plays the distance game with a taller fighter he loses. Your best bet to defend against this it to ask your Sensi or master on technics that can be used against it.

TKD vs. Savate
The Saint replied to Ironberg's topic in Choosing a Martial Art, Comparing Styles, and Cross-Training
My head instrutor has trained in Savate and some differences that he points out is that Savate kicks are to places that you would not normally kick to in the dojo. For instance a kick to the quadracep in allowed in Savate but is considered dangerous in TKD. As for using weapons, the french cane or "la cane" is a different art in itself and I consider it a differnt art. The cane is simlar to fencing and uses some of the same fighting stances. Savate is alot like kick boxing but has some different technics. I would also like to know more about it. -
I have 2, a celtic arm band that goes all the way around and a 4 leaf clover with a football in it. Both have significant meaning to them and I don't regret them at all. Both are above the sleeve line so I can wear short sleeve shirts to work.

I've had to fight against another member of my club at a wtf tournament. Our club is ITF and we are allowed to use anyhand technics to the face and sides of the head. While sparing we just went by our rules and went hard on each other. It was a harder match than the gold medal match in the end. Fighting a member of your club is always harder, because you train with them and know their tactics. We kicked the snot out of each other and laughed about it at the end of the day.

unusual knee injury.
The Saint replied to zerolimitii's topic in TKD, TSD, Hapkido, and Korean Martial Arts
I'd try some ice first and it wouldn't hurt to see a doctor. It sounds like you hyperextended it, but the worst thing you can do for it is to add heat. (adding heat will not allow fresh oxygenated blood to the soar area-for healing) -
Movie must have!
The Saint replied to jONN13's topic in Martial Arts Gaming, Movies, TV, and Entertainment
Dragon, the Bruce Lee Story, Chinese Connection, End Game, Enter the Dragon Kung Fu- The Legend Continues, Season 1 There's tones of great movies out there -
If he hits you again tell him to stop it, Then if he hits you again take him out at the knees. I use to get bullied in HS but became friends with the Offensive line of the football team and it stopped. I would try to suggest a peacefully solution rather than my earlier tactics of taking him out at the knees.

Can't argue with you on that one! Superfoot is awesome

Learning the hard way is something we all go through. Stepping into a back kick for the second time is a lesson not learned. If you control your shots and use good technic there shouldn't be an issue when it comes to contact. You don't have to go hard on your training partner when it comes to contact. Save that for the competition ! Your are going to deal with some contact yourself too, just so getting hit in the competition isn't a shocker. Find a training partner that wants to have light contact when training.

I use glucosimine and it works well, however, You should probably seek some help from a doctor that specilizes in knee problems, surgury on the knees has improved in the past 10 years. Being laid up for a couple of weeks is a lot better than hobbling around for the rest of your life.
