  1. This is the one I know. http://www.uskenshikai.com/
  2. Mawashigeri - You have a great teacher there. I know Luis from Seminars for the DRAGON SOCIETY. Have you asked your instructor so that it will be inline with the plan they have for your training.
  3. I agree with White Warlock 's statement. how many of the weapons Kata are the same useing differant weapons. I also feel that in some styles each major movment has several meanings it would be very diffecult to truley know the oyo and bunkai to 119. The staement of his looking etter than your leans me towrds his arrogance and perhaps exagerating.
  4. And as I staed above do them slow, speed will reduce the benefit. At 14 do not do the diamond ones where you have your thumbs touching it is bad for your rotator cups/cuffs.
  5. Make sure you do then slow , slow up slow down. Try doing 5 seconds up, 5 seconds down. then make it longer you will get more out of less reps
  6. All you have to do is admit you are better as a blue/purple/brown belt then any instructor at your school. Then admit you have more insight than any other styles instructor, come up with a cool name for your style. Then comes the hard part buying the red and gold belt and ad space in BLACK BELT MAG. nameing yourself the founder. Poof you are a grandmaster. Then rent space hire an office person to mail out the applications to all the associations. Before you know it you are a legend
  7. I was stating fact. Sometimes the truth is not nice. Dillman teachs in effective techniques and has made a joke of KYUSHO and TUITE.
  8. If you notice some of Dillmans top instructors are leaving is association. I feel it is the NO TOUCH claims I trained in Oyatas linage, he is the real deal. I know train in the Moneymaker/Muncy linage and find thier information to be top notch. https://www.dragonsociety.com
  9. I have seen three or four versions of this KATA, if you can point to a clip of the version you do it would help.
  10. Sasori - There is a guy Rual Perez who is from the Oyata linage who posts there.
  11. FIGHTINGARTS is a great site many of the forum posters are longtime MA instructors. I have been a member for a very long time.
  12. I would say train with RYUTE under the OYATA lineage if you want true KARATE. If you want MMA in a sport context for competitoin then go with METZGER. I once trained in the OYATA linage and due to location can not. SASORI_TE you know I have instructor envy at this time so gloat away:)
  13. Also when Karate was taken from Okinawa to Japan it was changed. The advanced techniques were removed by Funakoshi when he created his style. The goal being an art that would be able to used by school children.
  14. Time frame should not matter, however it takes at least 4-5 years on average. to get shodan, 2 nidan, 3 to sandan. The age for an ADULT Black Belt is 16, there is a junior Black belt kids get then when they are fourteen they join the adult class and start at white belt level. The belt is black with a stripe down the center. They work thier way through the ranks again this time it is easier they know the Kata. The bunkai and the application of the art is learned.
  15. In think all the advice was real good, Monkey Girl put it very well. Keep from trying too hard. These folks you will be teaching should already respect your Knowledge if you are a senior student and train hard. Also see if the head instructor holds " instructor " classes to teach you how to teach. there is alot to learn from teaching even teaching white belts you will learn so much.
  16. I do four or five 2 hour classes a week.
  17. drunken monkey, for your info, Taken from the website of the USA HOMBO for the Goju Kenshikai headed by Hanshi Tetsuhiro Hokama The RyuKyu's Islands are a small chain of islands located between Japan and China. The largest and most famous of these islands is Okinawa. Because of their strategic location it was a trading center for China and Japan as well as other Asian country, the Ryukyus martial arts were greatly influenced by the Chinese and other Asian cultures. Karate was born when the indigenous Okinawan Art of life-preservation known as "Ti" (hand) was infused with Chinese martial arts and other Asian arts. It then became known as Karate meaning "Hand of China". Even though Karate had some influence of Chinese martial art, yet it is martial art that was unique to Okinawa. Today Karate literally means "open hand" which refers to the physical means of hand movement and physical characteristics of the hand; which, when combined together represent human nature. That is to say, that, karate should be a natural movement - for example, just as in walking. The natural movements in Karate are typical in the old ways of karate. Karate is too often misinterpreted as empty hand. This is wrong; it's suggesting that there is no substance, or movement in the hand. After the Meiji Restoration, Okinawa was under the rule of Japan. The literal translation of karate was changed from "Chinese hand" to "open hand". This definitely was done for political reasons. Okinawa Goju-Ryu Karate-Jutsu is the style of karate taught at our dojo. Functionally translated, Goju- Ryu Karate-Jutsu means "hard and soft, gentle style of China hand Art," or open hand art, depending on the kanji used for the word kara. Goju-Ryu was created from the life-long work of two great Okinawan teachers, Kanryo Higaonna (1853-1915) and his student Chojun Miyagi (1888-1953). Since the style was developed from both Okinawa and China, it reflects a blend of techniques from such martial arts as Okinawa-ti and several Kung-fu styles originated in China such as Black Tiger style, Monk Fist and White Crane. As a result, Goju-Ryu contains a variety of techniques ranging from powerful and explosive punches and kicks, to more subtle and gentle blocking and evading techniques. Hence, the derivation of its name the "hard and soft style." Witnessing proper execution of Goju-Ryu, an audience is left with an impression of power and grace.
  18. ahhhh I hate teacher envy AMP you are lucky. in the late 1980's I trained under one of his direct students. I have been a TUITE, KYUSHO fan ever since. I wish I had a dojo near me. The closest one is a three hour drive. You are training in the real deal enjoy and stay with it.
  19. "TKD Chosen one" spoken like a true NOOB with little training. I Know a few women who punch like men and are very fast. I have to ask how many matchs have you had outside of your DOJO.
  20. The link did not work for me, We work KATA from what the instructor has as well as taking each movement and appling variuos attacks to it refineing foootwork , postion angle of attack Some work some do not. Always there is alot learned in how to apply the art not just execute basics.
  21. I love sparring without frustration of either of being slapped around or getting bored. it gives you a chance to really work your combo's.
  22. I have been beaten by a couple of women over the years. NATURAL - Not impressed , perhaps she knew you to be a arrogant person and had to come in aggressive. You know you are right you hsould have an attitude ot be a MA a confident one, not a aggrogant one. I find most guys who are that cocky are not half as good as they think.
  23. I hate the why do we have to this ... I need to work on my kata. There are a few I have never seen sweat in drills , kata , sparring. I avoid them during sparring. I guess I am a banger since we turn up the contact at times when agreded on by both sides of the match. AMP- do you train in Taika Oyatas linage. He has great knowledge.
  24. the way DILLMAN presents some of the info is misleading, you do not need to pinpoint strike. I know a great book on KYUSHO called THE WESTERN BUBISHI you can get it , https://www.combatkyusho.com or https://www.dragonsociety.com you really need to get hands on instruction, on the DSI website check the instructors page there are a couple in the uk who can give you proper instruction.
