Yes, he was one of DILLMAN top students and has left him to train with Evan Patanzki (sp?) of KYUSHO INT. /KI. I have not met him but know many who came up the ranks with him. They spoke well of his ability. You will do alot of what will seem like ju jitsu with "in close" techniques. He is one a few in the area who hold a Black belt from Remy Prases in Modern Arnis, so the stick work will be good. If he starts heavy with PP information before you learn his techniques be careful that information should be preseneted at the right time once the besics in his style are down cold.

Oyata claims this never happened and has disavowed Dillman entirely stating that Dillman only took 3 seminars from him and made the rest up. Either way Dillmans rank is not currently recognized by Oyata. Other then the 10th degree certificate that was signed by all his higher ranking students, Dillman's only legit rank is a shodan in Shotokan. I had heard that Dillman named his style RYUKYU KEMPO because of the rank with Oyata. Now the fact that Oyata changed his styles name when Dillman hit the seminar circuit makes sense.

I do not or have not trained in DILLMANS system. I have trained in OYATAS linage and Muncy/Moneymakers who I recieved my shodan from. I have been to one Dillman seminar and that was eneough for me. Rick Momeymaker and Tom Muncy had been with Dillman and had done much of his early reserach, they split due to confilts in how the concepts should be used. RYUKYU KEMPO is used by many folks not from the Dillman group to describe the art they teach, one is Mike Minor a 6th DAN under OYATA his site is WWW.RUSHU.COM the history of RYUKYU KEMPO can be found there. I currently train in ISSHINRYU but still get together with Rick Moneymaker to work on the KYUSHO and TUITE. But still to date Oyata has the best information on this.

For all his faults I would like to start with at the time he met Master Soken Dillman was a top tournament fighter and owned the kata division for many years he was not just some guy off the street. This was when tournaments were not the tippy tap sparring and all flash kata no substance things that most are today. I do not agree with his approach to the concepts of KYUSHO nad TUITE this because I started in Oyatas linage and then with Muncy/Moneymaker. What I was told by folks who were ranked very high in his org and were there when he started his KEMPO is that from Master Soken he was shown some of the Vital Point information as documented in the Bubishi. Then when Taikia Oyata came to the US at the request of his top students Dillman for about a year and a half attaended some seminars. For reasons I do not know Oyata ranked him as a 7th Dan which allowed him to give rank to his students. It could be because Dillman already held a high ranking in another style.

DILLMAN did not create RYUKYU KEMPO Taikia Sieyu Oyata did. Dillman was at a couple of seminars then started teaching his version, at that point Oyata changed the neame of his system you can find out more here. http://www.kushu.com/aboutRT.htm I am a shodan in RYUKYU KEMPO and live in NJ I know just about all the schools and can give good insight on what they do. They can be in the linage of the following all have good and bad points depending on the school. Dillman Oyata Muncy/Moneymaker If you PM I will be glad to answer anything I can. What school are you looking at.

when my two, now 13 and 15 girls wanted to quit I only asked that they stop to do another activity. I had them speak to thier friends and find out what they all would want to do. this way they are with thier friends and still involoved in something. I still train and as it turns out my youngest is asking about starting again after about 1 1/2 years later. You need to allow them to find thier " thing " I just made sure they were not quiting to just hang out.

what is the differance between DILLMAN 'S DKI and KYUSHO INTERNATIONAL. It looks like KI are some of DILLMANS top people. I still say OYATA is the only way to go, it was at a couple of seminars by OYATA Dillman was taught about KYUSHO and TUITE. When DILLLMAN started his RYUKYU KEMPO Taikia Oyata changed the name of his style to RYU TE.

TUITE is no secret, it is grappling using Pressure Points, As KYUSHO is vital point/Pressure point striking. I would seek out info from the OYATA linage of RYUKYU KEMPO here is a link to some books and tapes. http://www.ryu-te-supplies.com/Books%20and%20Tapes.htm

kempocos replied to Shorinryu Sensei's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion

Sasori_Te - How have you been, I started training with a ISSHINRYU instructor after my RYUKYU KEMPO school closed a few months ago. I find it to be a straight foward style. The vertical fist is not that much differant than the 45 dergree fist I used to do, my old style did not fully rotate the fist to be in line with the floor. I have grown to like it over the rotation since I like in close fighting. They ( my school ) seem more concerrned with snap and speed raw power as some othe KARATE styles are. It is not heavy with KATA they use 8, the names are the same as my old style but movements and delivery are not the same. This has been my obsticale while doing lets chinto falling into the old way while learning thiers. All in all I like the style. good hard training, sweat buckets everyclass

ANGELA, You are in very good hands with Russell Stutely altough I do not know him directly he is very respected by Rick Moneymaker, Tom Muncy, Rand Caldwell. On the Russels website he has a link to https://www.combatkyusho.com. This is Rand Calwells site he has some great artciles and his book is very good. However at this point in your training , I checked via your link drill your basics and technique without them the knowledge will not help.

BAR is a study dating back that I know of to about 1928, and both of our comments are was ways of getting that response out of others. I see the OCFM so I know you train that information through Russel Stutely, I train in it through one of his Instructors on KYUSHO/TUITE Rick Moneymaker of the Dragon Society Int. BAR is the bodies response during stress it covers loss of fine motor skills, tunnel vision, the body not moving the way the mind wants it to. Adreniline and endorphin dumps into the blood stream, the reflexs of the body moveing before you can control it, as you described. And happens on both side of the confrontation the attacker and defender. So I guess I am not wrong I just was not complete. The pushups and such are there to add pressure and cause the results of a Body Alarm Reaction. What ever the reason by the instructor the results are the same.

I have to agree with Shotochem. Some of these tests that people have been describing are absurd! I pay a lot of money for a martial arts education. I want to learn the proper technique for a side kick, or how to do forms, or how to survive when somebody attacks me. I can run, do sit ups and push ups, and improve my fitness in my own free time. But when I'm paying to be taught, I want to be taught, not conditioned. They are there to put as much stress and exhaustion into the test as possable. One of the things most MA scholols fail to address is performing the techniques under excessive stress that real life confrontation brings on. This is a subject known as Body Alarm Reaction. It is much more than adreniline hitting the system.

My brown belt test was nothing like my shodan testing. The shodan testing was about 7 hours with all senior senior students and instructor there to help break you. The Kata, drills, Escrima, questions on Pressure point applications, the Self Defense where everyone lines up and then they come at you and you must react without the " lap grab " type warning. the last hour is sparring one on one, two on one, sticks on sticks. But all the pushups , situps , squat thruts, jumpin jacks thrown in to wear you down. For those who wonder why the running, pushups , situps are there it is not to check fitness it is to wear you down, to try and make you quit.
-
It is more a question of how many do the kata as intended. I know folks who can do KATA for two hours and never break a sweat. Me I put so much into them that I am sweating after two passes of them.

SHOTOKAN is the result of chages requested by Japan to make OKINAWIAN KARATE less brutal so school kids can use it for grade school gym classes and it would look pretty. The deep stances and removal of much of the TUITE/TOUDI ( GRAPPPLING and KYUSHO ( vital/pressure point striking) . rigid linear movements from what I have seen. I agree search down a student of Taikia Oyata's RYUTE system. Hands down the best in this.

SAVATE - is french boxing there is now shooting in and ground work because they wear boxiung gloves. DO search there are many clips on the net.

"please make a poll option for our friends from TKD, Kung Fu, Tae Bo, Muay Thai and so on " TAE BO IS NOT A MARTIAL ART, IT IS A CARDIO WORKOUT PROGRAM.
-
I have to agree, AMERICAN KENPO is closer to Kung Fu since Ed Parker revieved most of his training when he worked on the PAI family ranch Hawaii. He and Daniel Pai trained under Daniels grandfather in the PAI LUM KUNG FU style. For a Karate I vote ISSHINRYU it contains the better concepts from SHORIN and GOJU RYU. Shotkan please this is the result of watering down the great Okinawian techniques. Funakoshi, highly overrated.

nothing until Black Belt, that is $300 mostly to pay for senior out of state instructors to be there to oversee the testing.

90% of all fights end up on the ground?
kempocos replied to Mart's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
this came from the GRACIES BJJ and it came from stats provided by the LA Police dept. The issue is that cops always take you down to cuff you when struggling. The Gracies always take the fight to the ground because that is thier style. Fact is you need striking , grappling and ground skills to call your self a MA. To say you do not need all is being stupid. -
DELTA is right on, I have been doing modern arnis for about seven years and it mixes great with the RYUKYU KEMPO I do.
